  1. 3D is usually some sort of checkback, after which people decide what's important to show based on their agreements about 2M. Usually a 5-card weak two is chunky, so suit quality may be less useful, so you can use 3H/S/N as mini-midi-maxi after 2M-2N; 3C-3D. Or you could play that 2M+1 (rather than 2N) asks (so 2H-2N=spades), so after bogust/5cards/ask, you can reply with 3M=min, 3M-1=max, so that responder gets 3M as another ask over the max response (e.g., "do you have shortness?"). To be more concrete: 2S - 2N 3C - 3D [ask] 3H: max (after which 3S: shortness?) 3S: min --- 2H - 2S (bogust) 2N - 3C (5 cards, ask) 3D: max (after which 3H: shortness?) 3H: min
  2. 4♠ doesn't look so great to me either.
  3. Yes; I'm just pointing out that this is a rule that the GIB programmers might want to revisit, since it causes undesirable behavior.
  4. Tilt, probably. But that's really not the point of this thread. Not being familiar with this treatment is my problem, I think. I guess MSS is either slammish or a drop, never an invite? If I asked an opp what 2S meant, I'd expect to hear this, and I expect it from GIB as well. Re: 5N, it's pretty stupid to think that it's GSF in a suit in which GIB has shown shortness when I've shown a balanced hand. Playing on my computer (so I could see what 5N meant), this happened again the other day: [hv=lin=pn|wyman,~~M53746,~~M53744,~~M53745|st||md|1S2AH7QAD46AC267TA%2CS4579H3489JKD25CK%2CS3QKH6TD3JKC389JQ%2C|rh||ah|Board%2011|sv|o|mb|1C|an|Minor%20suit%20opening%20--%203%2B%20C%3B%2011-21%20HCP%3B%201|mb|2H|an|Aggressive%20weak%20jump%20overcall%20--%206%2B%20H%3B%209-%20HCP%3B%203%2B%20total%20points%20|mb|3H|an|Cue%3A%20limit%20raise%20or%20better%20--%204%2B%20C%3B%2012%2B%20total%20points%3B%20forcing%20to%203N%20|mb|p|mb|4H|an|4%2B%20C%3B%2021-%20HCP%3B%2017-22%20total%20points%3B%20forci|mb|p|mb|5C|an|4%2B%20C%3B%2012-13%20total%20points%20|mb|p|mb|6C|an|4%2B%20C%3B%2021-%20HCP%3B%2021-22%20total%20points|mb|p|mb|p|mb|p|pc|H8|pc|HT|pc|H5|pc|H7|pc|CQ|pc|C4|pc|CA|pc|CK|pc|CT|pc|H3|pc|C8|pc|C5|pc|SA|pc|S5|pc|S3|pc|S8|pc|S2|pc|S9|pc|SK|pc|S6|pc|SQ|pc|ST|pc|D4|pc|S7|pc|H6|pc|H2|pc|HA|pc|HJ|pc|HQ|pc|H9|pc|C3|pc|D7|pc|D3|pc|D9|pc|DA|pc|D5|pc|D6|pc|D2|pc|DK|pc|DT|pc|DJ|pc|D8|pc|C2|pc|S4|pc|C6|pc|HK|pc|C9|pc|SJ|pc|CJ|pc|DQ|pc|C7|pc|H4| ]400|300|[/hv] I can't check now, but I believe that after 3H, 5N would have been GSF-H. This can't possibly be right. Yeah, it would be nice to keep them around, if only for debugging later.
  5. cards, likely short in hearts; I pass unhappily, but I think we're more likely to go + by passing than by bidding 5D.
  6. I would 2N and pass, but my partner's 2C/1D can be awfully ratty.
  7. 1N 2S (15-17, mss) 3n 4s (max no minor, spade shortness) 5n Gib interpreted this as GSF-S and bid 6s on a void, which is silly of course. Sorry I haven't posted a hand. I can link it (http://bit.ly/WJQkK5) but I'm on my phone so I'm limited. Incidentally, one of the problems playing bbo on iPhone is the inability to preview what gib think your putative bids mean (as by hovering over bids w a mouse before you make them).
  8. http://xkcd.com/882/ Also you may wish to only compare one hand per deal (I assume you're not, since you average 10HCP/hand with such amazing precision). A 7+ bagger with north changes the likelihood of one being dealt to south. Other than this, I'd recommend just writing your own software to do whatever analysis you wish on the PBNs.
  9. I'd bid 6S, but I'm not super confident that I'm right.
  10. Double is clear imo. You have a flexible hand, short hearts, and opening values. I'd also recommend playing Lebensohl after TOX of weak 2M, which will sort out most of your objections to partner not knowing whether or not we have 4oM.
  11. That is not very Bayesian of you.
  12. To the 2C-ers: are you also opening this 2C in other chairs?
  13. Am I the only one who opened this thread thinking it would be about http://i.imgur.com/mRqsX.jpg
  14. If we bid a NF 2H and LHO passes, how aggressively should partner raise on xxx? on Hxx? on Hx?
  15. This is actually the crux of my question: Partner knows that if I have a side void here, it's in clubs. Am I supposed to lead low to say "yes, lead a club" or am I supposed to lead the 8 to say "I have 6, so it's more likely that I have a club void" ? My thought was that since I didn't lead a club, he'd figure it out regardless, so I led the ♦8. But I didn't know if I was right to do so.
  16. I did, and while I concede that this is be the worst vulnerability for this choice (in fact I almost commented to that effect), I *still* am not happy on the auction I gave. I guess it's obvious to rip it, but I'm not at all confident that we're not ringing up a -990 (or at least -790) here.
  17. ahydra: The 8 would be our systemic length lead in ♦.
  18. imps, short matches, intermediate opps 3/5 are our systemic leads [hv=pc=n&s=sk82hq743dq98642c&d=e&v=e&b=6&a=pp2n(20-21)4c4s(tank)ppp]133|200[/hv]
  19. r/r teams, short matches, expert opps [hv=pc=n&s=shkj8743daq6ct854]133|100[/hv] I think it's typical to play 2-bids here as NFConst (but correct me if I'm wrong or if you feel strongly about this -- this could certainly be an avenue of discussion here). In any case that's what we're playing. Jumps are fit. Are we supposed to XX or bid 2H here? Or other? What's our plan?
  20. Voted 4H and no. I don't want to be guessing after 1H (1S) P (4S).
  21. That was Megyn Kelly, and it is criminal to confuse her with Greta Van Susteren.
