  1. [hv=d=s&v=e&s=skqjt2hqj96dxxcax]133|100|Scoring: IMP You are dealer and open 1♠. South West North East 1♠ - 2♥ - Dbl - Pass ?? Partner's double is negative (minors)[/hv]
  2. a: 1S - 1NT; 2C - 2D; all pass. -90 to N/S b: 1S (X) 2D; all pass. -90 to N/S c: 1S (2H); all pass. -200 to N/S a-b = 0 IMPs (---) a-c = 3 IMPs (110) to N/S b-c = 3 IMPs (110) to N/S
  3. Agree, flat board in 4S
  4. a. As I normally do not play 2/1 (and have assumed so in some other hands), I think I will find it more difficult to reach 4S from the E/W hand. But I presume it will be possible. 1S - 2C 2S - 3S 4S b. and c. Agree with awm. Flat board, with a bit of trepidation on a.
  5. Thread for summary and general observations.
  6. I think the repeating finesse is implicit when the claim was made. If declarer was good enough to realise the HJ can be with West, he would not claim in the first place.
  7. a: 1S (p) 3S ??? I'm not sure North will volunteer 4H at unfav. I expect bidding to settle at 3S And East makes 9 tricks? I think so. I expect both b and c. to reach 5H as well a-b = (1) IMPs (-40) to N/S a-c = (1) IMPs (-40) to N/S b-c = 0 IMPs (--)
  8. Yes, this should be flat.
  9. a: 1S (pass) pass (1NT) pass (3NT). N/S +600 b: Agree with awm. N/S +600 c: Agree with awm. N/S +620 a-b = 0 IMPs (--) a-c = (1) IMPs (40) to N/S b-c = (1) IMPs (40) to N/S
  10. a: agree with awm. E/W +140 b: I'd expect East hand to bid 2S. 1S (X) 2C (2H) 2S (3H) all pass. E/W +100 c: Agree with awm. E/W +140 a-b = (1) IMPs (-40) to N/S a-c = 0 IMPs (--) b-c = 1 IMPs (40) to N/S
  11. I think I agree with all.
  12. a: 1S - 1NT all pass. N/S score 8 tricks. +100 to N/S b: agree with awm. N/S score 8 tricks. +120 to N/S c: agree with awm on contract. But I think N/S will score 6 tricks? Opening S10 lead gives declarer chance to discard a club loser on third spade as West ruffs. In any case, I think E/W will score +200 a-b = (1) IMPs (-20) to N/S a-c = 7 IMPs (300) to N/S b-c = 8 IMPs (320) to N/S
  13. I thought about this before my first post. But if I were to choose one outcome, I think there is a higher probability of SA then Sx opening leads.
  14. a. 1S (P) 3S? (P) 4S all pass. I often raise based on LTC and the West hand is a 3S (I guess most will call this a bad bid...). Most probable result -1 b. Agree with awm. The double could easily lead to 4Cx c. Agree with awm. 4Sx -1 a-b = 13 IMPs (+850) to N/S a-c = (2) IMPs (-50) to N/S b-c = (14) IMPs (-900) to N/S
  15. Agree with awm except (a) My prefered style is not 2/1 GF so I will probably reach 4♠ when South passes. West hand has enough to make a 2C bid if you do not play it as GF. This is a push board for all three sequences.
  16. Yes, I agree. However, if I held the East hand, I'd be to scared about passing 2Hx in sequence (c.) . I will bid 2S given the solid suit. Also, I'd take a 3C bid now by partner as forcing -- so West hand will have to pass 2S. 2S = N/S score -110 a-b = 4 IMPs (140) to N/S a-c = 4 IMPs (160) to N/S b-c = 1 IMP (20) to N/S
  17. The hand was something like this:[hv=d=n&v=n&n=sakhatxxxdqxxcqxx&w=sqt9xxxxhxdxxcaxx&e=sxxhkxdaktxxckjtx&s=sjxhqjxxxdjxxcxxx]399|300|Scoring: IMP[/hv] The bidding was swift and brutal (esp. for N/S) I was kibitzing this deal. N opened 1♥ (although many would prefer 1NT?). After East's 2♦ overcall, South jumped to 4♥. Now West bid 4♠ which was doubled. E/W were soon scoring up +590. North blamed South for the debacle, while South blamed North. If I recall, the other table settled in a partial for E/W.
  18. My picks for the weekend NFL games: 1. Cowboys win at Vikings 2. Jets win at San Diego 3. Saints v Cardinals -- not sure. Probably Saints 4. Ravens win at Colts. Go Ravens!
  19. Played this in the club last night, and the full hand was: [hv=d=e&v=n&n=sat7hadj7652cq532&w=skq8542hjt3dt3c96&e=sj3hkq986d84ck874&s=s96h7542dakq9cajt]399|300|Scoring: XIMP At my table, East opened 2♥ and it went all pass. [/hv] We can defeat the contract by 3 (or perhaps 4). But that was insufficient compensation for 11 tricks in 3NT (bid on 7 of 15 tables) or 12 tricks in diamond (3 tables bid game, no one was in slam). At most tables, the East hand passed... Looking at the North hand in isolation, would you act in the 4th seat? Partner said he may have doubled with a 4th spade, but with the actual holding he did not seriously consider bidding.
  20. [hv=d=e&v=n&s=s96h7542dakq9cajt]133|100|Scoring: XIMP East deals and opens 2♥, alerted Explained as 5-card ♥ with 4+ card minor; 7-10 HCP. Your choice of action, if any? [/hv]
  21. [hv=d=n&v=n&s=sjxhqjxxxdjxxcxxx]133|100|Scoring: IMP Partner deals and opens 1♥. East overcalls 2♦. How high do you bid? Is this too simple a question?[/hv]
