  1. 1. Pass. If partner had a great hand and nearly solid diamonds, he would use penaly dbl 2. Pass. The earlier 3♣ was a feeble effort 3. 3♣ Hopefully non forcing 4. 4♠ 8-card suits are rare and deserve being respected 5. Dbl 6. Pass happily
  2. I have not read all the posts in detail here. But based on a cursory glance, it appears that the discussion has veered away from 'gender-based abortions' to '.... abortions' The original post can be (for purposes of my discussion) split into two parts: 1. A one-off (not exactly one event but a rare enough occurrence) decision made by a Swede (or European or American etc) to consciously abort a female foetus for the sole reason that it is female 2. A repeated occurrence in some societies to abort female foetuses. Part I: My personal opinion is that it is solely the choice of the pregnant woman in question. Most countries has laws on abortion, and the citizens abide by those laws. There are also societal considerations, peer pressure issues etc. However, if the one-offs in Part I are rare, it would make not much difference. Part II: I give you the case of India. Here is one of many articles found on the web (search for "amniocentesis ban India") http://www.theage.com.au/news/World/Gender...7462303415.html Some interesting quotes from the article: And if the Government says 10 million, it could easily be 20 million Emphasis added by me. If the Swedish occurrence ever leads down the slippery slope as with India, I would be absolutely against it.

  4. 4NT. 5H presumes our side has enough for slam - needs at least 3 of the 4 from DA, CA, opps D 3-2, SK
  5. [hv=d=e&v=n&n=skq982h872d65c832&w=s65hq543dkq43cakt&e=sj43hat6daj7cj765&s=sat7hkj9dt982cq94]399|300|Scoring: XIMP[/hv] Partner led the D10. Declarer's line: win DJ, cross to CA, Dx to declarer's A, finesse the C10, CA finds the 3-3, DK, DQ, H to A, 13th club & concede the rest. The contract was played by West on most tables and my hand had an easy spade lead for -1. Any comments on declarer line of play? Is it not better to play a heart to dummy at trick 2 hoping that South will duck or win but not find the spade switch?
  6. [hv=d=n&v=n&n=sj5hq95dj864cqt76&w=sat642h8632dtca84&e=skqhakj4dkq752c53&s=s9873ht7da93ckj92]399|300|Scoring: MP[/hv] Thanks everyone. I goofed up when I led a trump... My (incorrect) reasoning was that declarer may try to ruff diamonds in dummy and that a trump would not cost + will cut down ruffs in dummy. Unfortunately, my lead gave declarer 12 tricks and a 87% score on this deal.
  7. I'm expressing an opinion here. Please feel free to correct me... I think most of you are unduly harsh on South. I'd blame South as well, but nowhere like 100% The result may have been engineered by East who raised to 3H with a 3-card support. Most people raise with 4; and South expects partner with ?36? (good diamond suit) or ?37? (any diamond suit). And in both cases, if partner produces 2-card support in spades or even a singleton Q, 4S could jam opponents.
  8. Play a club towards dummy's 10 at trick 4? The play at trick 2 suggests West started with CKQxx or CKQxxx.
  9. Pass If jlall is one of the defenders, the defence is up one trick already
  10. [hv=d=e&v=n&s=sat7hkj9dt982cq94]133|100|Scoring: XIMP You are South 1NT* - p - 2C - p 2D - p - 3NT - end 1NT described as 10½ to 13 balanced. Opps do not open 1NT with 5-card major [/hv]
  11. This needs spade Q to be doubleton, diamond finesse to work and some miracles in clubs. I like the line by Simplicity
  12. [hv=d=n&v=n&s=s9873ht7da93ckj92]133|100|Scoring: MP You are South. Bidding: p - 1D - p - 1S p - 2H - p - 3H p - 4H - all pass Opps play ACOL, 2H is a reverse. Not listing H10 as an option but if you want to lead it please explain below[/hv]
