[hv=s=sakqxxhxdaxckq10xx]133|100|1♠-1N 3♣-4♠ all pass[/hv] South thought 4♠ showed a limit raise. North thought otherwise. IMO South is correct if 1NT was forcing or semiforcing. And if it was not either of those then 1NT would be correct only if you were playing either a 4 card major system or allowed opening a 4 card major in 3rd or 4th seat.
-
I am surprised by the number voting for 3♠. I had presumed possibly incorrectly that you were playing a 5 card major system and thus 1NT had to be at least semi-forcing. This would make the 3♠ call equivalent to a less than constructive raise/choice of suits bid. Perhaps you can update your system information as the second choice for me would be 4♣ but my red suit cards look likely to be somewhat wasted for that choice.

IMO shows xy64. With xy65 I would call 2NT over 1♠
-
With the ♠ holding shown I would call a F1NT. With ♠Kxxx I would call 1♠

2♥ should have been adequate to show this hand. Consequently some play 3♥ as a singleton with 4 card ♠ support and a game forcing hand. As for the actual hand you probably need to bite the bullet and open 2♣ as a strong artificial GF hand unless balanced planning on a 2NT rebid. You will probably end up in 4♠ but at least you have a shot at a game bonus

Transfer Question?
pooltuna replied to selandia's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Not so much a transfer as a two suited hand. I would assume a worthy Michaels Cue Bid for ♥/m since presummably 2NT is available to show the minors -
From the chart below you can see the first column is the winner(cash AK;low to J) with the 3rd column slightly worse and the second column last. You must remember that 3-3>4-2>5-1>6-0; i.e. probability of any single 3-3 is higher than any single 4-2; and column 1 lost to six 4-2 and four 5-1 while column 3 lost to ten 4-2 and column 2 lost to ten 4-2 and one 5-1. RHO---LHO---cash KA; low to J--- low to 9; cash KA---cash K;low to 9;cash A - qt8765 w w w q t8765 w w w t q8765 w l w 8 qt765 l w w 7 qt865 l w w 6 qt875 l w w 5 qt876 l w w qt 8765 w w w q8 t765 w w w q7 q865 w w w q6 q875 w w w q5 q876 w w w t8 q765 w l l t7 q865 w l l t6 q875 w l l t5 q876 w l l 87 qt65 l w w 86 qt75 l w w 85 qt76 l w w 76 qt85 l w w 75 qt86 l w w 65 qt87 l w w qt8 765 w w w qt7 865 w w w qt6 875 w w w qt5 876 w w w q87 t65 w w w q86 t75 w w w q85 t76 w w w q76 t85 w w w q75 t86 w w w q65 t87 w w w t87 q65 w w w t86 q75 w w w t85 q76 w w w t76 q85 w w w t75 q86 w w w t65 q87 w w w 876 qt5 w w w 875 qt6 w w w 865 qt7 w w w 765 qt8 w w w 8765 qt w w w t765 q8 w w w t865 q7 w w w t875 q6 w w w t876 q5 w w w q765 t8 w w w q865 t7 w w w q875 t6 w w w q876 t5 w w w qt65 87 w l l qt75 86 w l l qt76 85 w l l qt85 76 w l l qt86 75 w l l qt87 65 w l l t8765 q w w w q8765 t w w w qt765 8 w w w qt865 7 w w w qt875 6 w w w qt876 5 w w w qt8765 - w w w

I would try 4♥
-
gut feeling is you should play the ♠K now
-
yes...if anyone who feels inclined to bid 3NT needs one they can borrow my tantō (短刀
-
IMO he shouldn't have needed to ask as the ODR is pretty clear
-
I take that to mean you don't have a meta-agreement on doubling p/c bids.
-
no argument from me ;)
-
I think you need to bypass the ♦ support for the moment to make what may be your only shot at a game with 2♠ hopefully this will encourage partner to try 3♠ with appropriate hands. This is much clearer if you open 1D with xy45 or xy54

Everyday MP lead

2♦>4♥>>>6♣>>>>K♠ -
Thank you opponent, that bid helped
pooltuna replied to CSGibson's topic in Interesting Bridge Hands
excuse me i mistakenly thought a 2♠ call by me was game forcing . i realize it is pointless though since partner cannot possibly hold dealer: ????? vul: ???? scoring: unknown ♠ ax ♥ qxxxdjxxxcqxx]133|100|Scoring: MP[/hv] and consequently there is no point in looking for a GS :) -
Agree with Roland. Yes I would pass first in hand unless I had a gadget. me 3
-
The need to preempt the opponents is outweighed by your potential fit in 2 suits with partner better to pass and try to show this hand after the opps have opened.
-
They are both mixed raises, a bid which has a wider range than 1.5 points. Actually in my definitions the first one is a very good constructive raise while the second one is a minimal limit raise. Consequently if the definition of a mixed raise is something between those then yes they are both mixed raises :)
-
Basically I think he should pass but I need to think of a clear reason why to be sure I am not resulting. The reason that comes to mind is that I would not want to play either 5m or 3NT opposite any opening 1NT which is well within the range of partner's possible card holding hands
-
I hope Josh means exactly that. Basically by insisting N pass over 2♠ you are saying S can hold no opening hands for his 2♥ call. If you allow for the possibility of an opening hand then pass over 2♠ is a non sequitur. N will need to either X for penalties or make a call.
-
They don't call 3NT the slam killer bid for nothing.
-
not too sure either but I vote for hemorrhoid. As in my partner is a ... :) Also known as a pain in the "neck" :)
