  1. sorry the American translation for "got lucky" is not "did well" Edited by Eastern Atlantic request
  2. 1] X - I would have to play partner for the world after he was unable to act directly over 1♦ to bid 6♠ 2] X - partner will hopefully not find a 2♠ call as he was unable to make a -X on the first round 3] 4♦ and hope to survive 4] assuming 2NT was passble this is an impossible auction and you should treat these the same way you treat unilateral action auctions - PASS EDIT: missed the comments and hand 5 I still PASS though 5] 4♠ not sure what partner was trying to show but at this point it looks like we are missing both a ♣ and a ♦ control.
  3. Both are at fault IMO. South for bidding 4♠ over 4♥. North for bidding 4♥ probably removing us from the last contract that rates to make. If partner had a good enough hand for 4♥ to make he will normally X altho we probably have a shot at the top end of a 3♠ call.
  4. given the quality of the ♠ suit it is hard to pass up to search for the more probable 5-3♣ or 4-4♦ fit.
  5. In spite of the others contention that 5♥ was wacko I have no clue what 3♥ shows in this system for me it would be a GF opposite a minimum hand and so 5♥ looks like a slam try opposite this and would make sense.
  6. we have talked about the real football :) If it's "real" football, how come the goalie gets to use his hands? What americans call football, is a sissy's game. - Everybody is covered with extensive padding. (Wouldn't want to feel any pain at all.) - Everytime anyone has run 10 yeards, everyone stops to catch their breath. - If you are to clumsy to hold on to the ball, you get three more tries. No, take a point blank hard-shot soccer ball directly into you balls, just to have your team lose with three goals instead of four, then we might discuss it. I see you need to go outside your house into your yard. Move to a point about 10 meters from your house, turn and face the house. Now as fast as you can run towards your house while lowering your head and shoulders. Under no conditions stop until you hit the house. You have now learned how to tackle in American football. Oh wait!!! we forgot to tell you to put on your pads and helmet :)
  7. you misunderstand the poll :) There are really only 2 choices...would you rather be smart or lucky? :)
  8. hand 1] 4♣ hand 2] 4♠ hand 3] 3NT (wtp)
  9. i'm going to call 2♥ not because it shows a big hand but because I want to bail out as cheaply as possible with many of partner's possible -X holdings. I too think you should have bit the 50 cal. bullet and just called 1NT.
  10. partner has to be bidding some of my cards already and consequently I will do what I recommend in most unilateral action auctions....PASS
  11. 2c easy...blame SAbine... assuming you pass and the auction continues ...(1NT) P (2NT) P (3NT) all pass ; were you expecting a ♣ lead :) Sabine Auken(sp?) is right, introduce as much noise as risk/reward makes possible into the opponent's auction.
  12. you mean they were "demonstrating their humanity" :)
  13. I downgrade and bid a SF1NT
  14. perhaps they were of the opinion that playing for the stiff K♠ combined with playing ♣ for ♦ pitches was better than the straight finesse
  15. nah, lets club them for them ♣ing us :(
  16. Hmmm looks like lots of blame to laid to both players. 1) North didn't open and so must be ready to push hard in the auction 2) I would like to see what South considers a 3♣ call over the 1♠ response. 3) Pass=/= push hard in the auction over 2♣ IMO they should both be sentenced to 6weeks of daily attendance in the intermediate hand evaluation training camp. ... OP put in a call for Onedown or whatever the equivalent 911 code is.
  17. you can't play trumps normally if you can handle a 4-1 trump break with rho having 4 so you probably need to start with A and then small to the Q
  18. not sure David's example is all that great either as it implies that 1NT is called explicitly without a 5 card major otherwise the encrypted opening lead would be probabilistic in nature. Personally I find this particular rule among the most onerous of those currently in use.
  19. This is unclear! "Or" is not the same as "Either...Or...". Does 2♦ mean partner is to select a major or does it mean he is forced to bid 2♥ and you will either pass, raise, or correct. BTW I assume the former and call 2♥
  20. And your rebid is......? well clearly....troubled :(
  21. Seems to me that t1) win ♥ in hand t2)♦ to A t3)ruff a ♦ t4)♥ to A t5)lead ♦ pitch if that makes sense otherwise ruff and try for 33 split rates to be higher odds than t1) win ♥ in dummy lead a ♠ to Q t2) ruff a ♠
  22. I flat out didn't know what the plural was but it seemed like a logical extension so I just started using it. I guess I will use forums from now on. I never reflected on whether or not the intent was to "sound intelligent" as successful communication was my sole intent and I assume that intent from other users as well.
  23. I'm inclined to pass both. Maybe shooting at too small a target
