At that point you should say something before further damage occurs. The TD will most likely assume that you passed (in some manner) since the other 3 player all share this impression.

many options, not preempted this time.
hotShot replied to Fluffy's topic in Interesting Bridge Hands
1♠ I am void in partners 2nd suit and my ♥QJ is wasted since partner is shot in that suit. a 2♠ bid, should promise a little more. Partner is likely to expect a ♣ and ♠ fit after dbl, I think it would be a big risk to dbl in a pick up partnership. -
If 4♥ was a preempt than pass is nonforcing. The fact that your LHO introduced ♣ devalues your ♣K, turning your 5 loser into 6 loser. It's also unsure if your ♥A can win a trick, o dbl is no option. So pass seems the best choice.
-
There are not enough hands (if any at all) that partner would open 1NT and that can bring opps 2♦ down single handed. Since you showed "nothing". I suggest you try to build one, and remember that the opponent must be able to bid 2♦ with what's left.
-
For argumentations sake lets assume that this is equivalent to yelling fire. How do you prove there is no "fire"? It's absolutely possible that those who don't repent, will spend eternity in hell. Of cause this is no equivalent to yelling "fire!".

Your bid, add. values? - You be the Judge
hotShot replied to P_Marlowe's topic in Expert-Class Bridge
Pass Partner decided against asking for keycards. I have shown my strength and hold 8 loser in a ♦ contract. I need partner to cover 6 of them to make 5♦. His ♦ holding / length will help in ♦ and maybe I can drop some loser on ♠ so the contract might make, but trying for more is unreasonable. -
How to reopen? Do you make another Move?
hotShot replied to P_Marlowe's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
1) You lost the ♠ fit (even the 4-3) when you decided against dbl. But it depends on your agreements. 2) Partner is unlikely to hold values in the red suits, so all of his points are helpful. He does not need to have many HCP so we can make something at the 4 level. Partner could hold: ♠ Kxxx ♥xxx ♦xxx ♣Kxx this is good enough for 4♠ to have resonable chances. ♠ Jxx ♥xxx ♦xxx ♣AKxx will often enough allow to make 4♦. So I would try 3♠. -
After opps interference "inverted minors" should be off. South is a passed hand, but close to a maximum. The hand is to strong for a single raise to 2♦ in this situation. Raising ♦ South would deny the possession of a 4 card major. So dbl is by far the better description of the South hand than 2♦. South does not know yet, that North opening was very weak, so he should bid normally.

I have seen threads where almost all favored solution A, until a prominent expert states his preference for solution B. If the expert post appears early in the thread, the discussion often ends there. This can influence polls as well. If you want a true picture how many would fail to find the best solution, it's better to hide the answers for a while. Very few will admit that they would pick a path that has been marked as inferior by an expert. So I would think it's a great option and I think it won't be used to often, because it's annoying to wait for responses.

I want to know about partners 5th ♥, so I need a forcing bid that describes my hand and does not set ♦ as trumps, so that I hear about partners ♥. Partner is likely to have 4♣ and/or 4♠ so bidding a black suit will put him on the wrong track. This leaves 3♦ as unsatisfying bid. What do you think about opening this hand with 1 or 2 NT to avoid the rebid problem?
-
I don't know EBU rules, but I would be very surprised if having a 7th card would be illegal. A problem might be disclosure, if you were asked about the meaning of the bid, you should have stated point range and length. If your statement included something like: "We preempt at the 3 level with 7 card suits!" There might be a case of misinformation.

South has to take most of the blame. North opened in 3rd seat and the hand is not good enough to open with 9 HCP (don't count single honors, unless it's the ace). South seems to be unaware that his t/o / neg. dbl is forcing. North 2♥ bid is no reverse, it's even nonforcing. South promised ♥ and ♠, that makes 3♦ to a game try showing a double fit or it implies that South has only 3♥. Since North 2♥ bid was nonforcing, his 3♠ bid can't be 4sf. It's just a correction to a better fit showing 4432, 4441 or 4450 shape. North hand is unbalanced and does not have a ♣ stopper. South 3NT bid should promise a ♣ stopper.
-
You need 3♥ to ask about ♥ stopper on the way to 3NT. You have 3♦ and 5♦ available, I would expect that 3♦ is nonforcing and 5♦ will end the auction. As a consequence 4♦ is setting trump and has at least mild interest in slam and is forcing. Because of the slam interest you would bypass 3NT although you have a ♥ stopper.

What can go wrong?
hotShot replied to Trumpace's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
This way you eliminate 2 entries to dummy, if you want to play the ♣K you could also win the ♥ trick in your hand and play a little ♣ to the K. -
If 4♥ makes than 5♦ is a good move. 4♥ is probably down if partner holds ♠A or ♥A or ♥K, but this is enough to make 5♦ a reasonable contract. If 4♥ makes I want to be in 5♦ and if it does not make I want to be in 5♦ because it very often makes. I'll bid 5♦.

Should not dbl show the unbid suits?
-
3♣ the hand is strong enough for that.

[hv=n=saxxxhqxxdkqxckxx&s=skxxhakjtdxcaqjt9]133|200|Scoring: IMPS Auction starts: 1♣ - 1♠ 2♥ - 3♦ 3♠ - 3N[/hv] Over a reverse,North bidding 4sf has to be at least inviting to slam.North would have several other bids to show a weaker hand (some of these have to be nonforcing: Pass, 2♠, 2NT, 3♣ or 3NT) I've shown an unbalanced hand with ♣3+ 4♥ and 3♠, so partner expects 3415, 3406 or 4414 shape. Partner won't pass 4♣ and well see where it gets us, partner has already made up his mind.

Our agreement is to bid aggressive in the direct seat (unpassed partner!) and very solid in the passout position. This hand has 2 defensive tricks and almost perfect shape so I'd always dbl.

2NT and dbl -
I don't get the problem, over your partners 2NT, you know you don't have a fit and you know that your side has 20 + your partners opening = 32+ HCP. The only thing that could keep you from bidding 6NT at once, would be to make sure your side is not missing 2 keycards.
-
It seems logical to me that under your agreement 1♥ or 1NT would need no alert, while any later ♦ bid would require an alert. But that would require a bridge law commission to decide.....

Interesting news. -
You mean instead of 6♥ and 5♣, holding 5♥ and 6♣ would make the difference?
