Well i'd bid 2NT because: if 2D was Benjamin GF 2NT is OK if it was 2D = weak 2 you can stand 3 to 5 D if if was Mutli you can stand 3 in any Major and have Support to a strong minor and if it was 4441 strong you can play 3NT all the time. So i bid 2NT and guess next round what partner holds, some of the options might be eliminated than. Have a nice day hotShot

Let us asume that in Board 2 the players A and B, played C and D and did not finisch an time. They score AVE-,. and the other players results depend on that. If know the score is corrected to 6S=, lets asume that is the new top. Now not only the score of A,B,C and D is affected, but also all other pairs. Those on the same axis, now score a litte less since there is a new top, all pairs on the other axis score a little better since ther is a new bottom. So if a score corection does not lead to a change of all movies of all players, than the figures in your movie are not exact. Since i never noticed changed figures in my movie, if not my own score was corrected i assume the complete update is not done. That could lead to to much network traffic. But if i'm right you can not get your correct avarage score from your movie! Have a nice day hotShot

You are right, the speed of some players in unclocked events is annoying. But the problem is, the regular time is 8 minutes per board. 12*8=96 min a little over 1.5 hours, if you give 10 minutes you got 2 hours. You need 2 or 3 tables to finish so that you can avoid playing the same opps all over again. So the tourney moves with the slowest tables. To speed up the process, the first groups of tables can play on, but the result is, that the slowest player gather at the same group of tables. Resulting in the fact that you can finish another tourney prior to getting your result in the first one. So it seems a clocked tourney might be the solution, but in a clocked tournay you wait every round until the last table has finished (or the time ran down). You can't go faster than that. So you can wait during the tourney or at the end of it. Of cause you can restrict the time to 6 min/board i tried that once. Seems that the average bridgeplayer does not read the tourney description and the TD gets hundreds of messages to ajust score, that this kind of tourney is insane and has to deal with actions that result in excluding the player from future tourneys. But since most precision bidders need many rounds of bidding, they are famous for beeing slow. Better select a different tourney! ;D have a nice day hotShot

Requests for more tables - how to handle?
hotShot replied to csdenmark's topic in BBO Tournaments Discussion
Hi! Try this! Press the show substituts button. Then you should see a list starting with: missing: nickname .... .... sub: someone( Skill Flag ) place where sub is Now click on the "missing" nick and press shift on keyboard while clicking the sub so that both list entries are selected then click on ok and that semi automatic substitution is working Hope this helps hotShot -
You really think so? Most of the Online Tournaments played, do not have anything to do with serious Bridge. Lets say ther is a 8 Board 4 Round tourney with 120 pairs. You play 4 of 199 possible opponents which is not even 2%, this is lotterie. Usually a tourney consists of at least 80% pairs that have not played together a lot. Bidding and discarding are usually not even discussed. So any board has lots of results that are caused by playing wrong contracts or losing because of bad defence. See the range e.g. of a normal MP tournament usually 75% to 25% this shows how much the players level differ. I admit that the new swiss/survivor movement is a step towards more serious results, but some "gifts" from the first rounds can carry me way up. Asuming a clear win/lose situation a fair swiss movement with 120 Pairs need 7 rounds to find the winner. Since in Bridge the best pair will only play avarage against the weakest pair if the contract is lay down, there should at least have 8 rounds. Most tourney do not have that many rounds. Movement theory is not so widley spread, but note that in a perfect 7 table Howell with 2 superiour pairs and 12 pairs of equal strength, those 12 pairs split up between 51% and 46% just depending on the position where they started. Usualy the TD should seat the best pairs to minimise those effects, but online that is not possible. BBO-Turnament movements are far from being perfect so you can easyly asume that you have at least +- 20% in your results just depend on whom u played. In fact tourneys are not more serious than playing the "Main Bridge Club" with one exception perhaps, at tourneys you can get more results per board (if there are more than 16 tables in play). I can understand that thee simplest way to cheat is having a kib telling you how to play. But as u already pointed out there are lot of other ways to accomplish that. I guess, if this were possible, it would be the best solution to allow privat with persons that are not kib at a table of that tourney. This solution could satify both sides. Have a nice day hotShot

Hi! The Partnership desk i a wonderful thing. It would even be more wonderful if not only the players profile is shown but additionaly the comments one made to the profile. I use the comment section of the profile to document if we already played together, if i was impressed as opponent or what system we had played. I really miss these comments viewing the Partnership Desk. Have a nice day hotShot

Hi! What about this approach: If you open a team tourney the system generates 2 tables filled with "sitout1-8". The players could than register as sub, chat in the tournament area to tell the host how to team up and the host uses the substitute player facility to fill up the team match. Sounds like this uses mostly existing software features, so probably not too much work.to implement. Have a nice day hotShot

Hi! Well i see that this is complicated. Perhaps there is a simpler way for a start. Maybe one could use a web address for some kind of tourney log, showing: 1) who played what board at what table 2) whom i had to sub Should not be to complicated to append a list of tables to a plain text file at the beginning of each round and to append the substitution messages to it. I could reload that information any round in my browser, and look where a player has been. At the end of the tourney i could just save it for future use. Viewing my tourney log's i could detect notorious tourney jumpers, who leave, if they don't expect a good result. Have a nice day hotShot

Hi! I think it would be a good idea if there some hints how to reakt on misbehavior. I do not direct so many tourney, but twice in 3 Tourneys a player left just to call for good opps in the lobby seconds after that. At the end of tourneys i often monitor a strange rise of connection problems. Today i had to sub 1 round 3 players and from from round 7/8 i could hardly follow up the subbing requests. What i would like to have is some tourney log that allows me to see whom i had to sub, what position he held at that time so that i can exclude people that are notorious running from the tourney before it's finished. Hi! Well the players movie does not show the actual play! Just the cards and the result. If they say "contract was already 2 down" or "i claimed and they did not answer on time" i can verify this only by checking the full movie at the table where it was played. No to mention that lots of players can't even find out from the movie if they where NS or EW. I guess those cannot send a movie at all. Have a nice day hotShot

Hi! That is an iteresting idea, but 5 tables are a little less data for valid statistics. But keep the idea in mind, we will see. Have a nice day hotShot

Hi! Probably this is already possible, but today i created a tourney and picked the wrong starting time. When i tryed to correct it i saw that 30 player already registered. Cause i did not know how to inform them on the change, i left it as it was, but that would be a nice feature. Have a nice day hotShot

Hi! If we are directing tournaments, we are often asked to adjust scores. As a TD i cannot see the players movie, just the movie of the table i join. The new movements are great, but you never know what table a player were in the previous round round. So i'd like to have a feature that put's the TD at a table using board number and players name or shows me that boards movie. If this is to difficult it might help to put the table number into the players movie. That was i can check if the adjustment i'm asked is corect and if neccesary ask opponents if they agree. Hi! The simplest way is do save the link 2 disk and open the .lin file with the BBO software. Ther is a place somewhere here in the forum where it says what to do. I will seach an post a link. hotShot

Hi! A tourney just started, but my partner from the partnershipdesk did not show up, so my registration was cancelt. Seems he lost connection just at tourney started. The bug is: I can now upload a convention card, but not volunteer as sub :) Since this should rarely happen, and the problem is terminated with the tourney. seems a less importend bug. Hi! More often i see tables in the main bridge club, that are open for hours without someone playing there. I think the reason is that someone who has been a kib at the table, got host when anyone else left. Since people with a flatrates often do not logout if they leave for a while, they suddenly get host at a table without intending to. So far this is no problem, but if U go to the club sit down at the table and wait for the host to take a seat too, .... well some of us are still young and can wait, ;D but most of us would like to sit at a table in real use. Please display the restrictions applied more clearly in the tournament area. Today it said open tourney in the free Text segment and when i tried to register it said, it's private an my partner is not qualified. Would be nice to see the restrictions applied. (Host said he did not know of excluding someone ...) Have a nice day hotShot

Hi! I was sub in a tourney today, and entered it last round. Since for time reasons we had to skip the last board we finished early. After a few sekonds i was aked to be sub for this tourney a second time ;-), should have said yes ..... Interesting effect hotShot

Hi! It is reported that in clocked tournaments some players let the time run down, to save at least AV-. It should not be to complicated to sum up the time each pair needs within a round, if this time could somehow be recorded at the server it could automaticly assign the pair that took most (e.g. 60%) of the time of this round AV- and AV+ the others. An about even disstribution should lead to the AV- both we have now. The TD would not need to correct scores in these cases and there would be no discussion needed. Even if a claim was made the server knows whos turn it was to answer. Since all of this could be done at the server side, there is no extra traffic involved. Probably it's not too hard to implement, and we will never have to discuss this again. Have a nice day hotShot

Hi! I know doing this might drive you crasy, but ....... Can you please make the Software aware of local time. hallway's reminders are much more helpful, if they are in my local time. If a tourney starts in 3+ day it would be nice if i enter the tourney if it does not say 3 day 5 hour 20 minutes, but Friday 23:00 my local time. If it where possible to set the timezone somewhere (you might even get it by a windows api call), so that everybody can see the events time and date in his/her local time. Have a nice day hotShot

Hi! Playing with the clock running is a good idea. You have to get a feeling for it. But why not hanle it as in uncluced tournaments after 7/8 Minutes it just counts on negative. You can ignore it nothing happens, but if you take a look you see that you are too slow. Perhaps an option at table creation would be nice. But i would not make this a top priority! have a nice day hotShot

Hi! Here in the f2f world we play men's, women's, mixed, junior, senior and open championships. Not to mention local events. I think this is to give more people a chance to win such an event. Here at BBO, there are no titles to win, and there is no way to tell the true gender, skill level, nationality etc. of a BBO-user. So lets not use that sort of criteria for a tourney. You can restrict tournaments to your friends, and your online club. i think that should do. (And i hope we will not see a 'club of true experts' playing all alone.) have fun hotShot

What about changing the kib mode in tourneys? A kib in a tourney should select a player to follow, and can only see this players cards. Or he can select a table where to kib, and allways stays there. A kib can change the player only between rounds. hotShot
