  1. Hi Paul! Online-Bridge has a very high potential for abuse. If one could only see his/her own rating, players could be asked to send a screenshot to prove their rating .... There are lots of ways to cheat. I don't what to make this a cheaters resource, so i won't give examples here. I ‘m sure you know, that 2 strong players don't necessarily make a good pair. So how do you calculate the strength of a pair. Do you know how a tournament result is calculated? Have you ever thought about “fair movements” ? If you play a BBO tournament with 100 pairs and 5 rounds of 2 boards, you and your partner will have played about 5% of the other pairs. You could have the 5 best pairs as opponents, another pair could have the 5 worst pairs playing. You will have 10 results that are average or worse, the others might get a lot of gifts scoring average or better. Should their ranking be better than yours ? Creating an offline tournament the TD tries to create a movement that makes you play at least half of the other pairs. To create a serious ranking one would need to play tournaments with lots of rounds with very few people. Handling divisions where people can move up or down. Until that can be done, any numerical ranking system will not be accurate. Have a nice day hotShot
  2. Hi Rain! You are right, Experts should know better, and can be treated that way. The same thing applies to experienced partnerships. But how do you tell if you have a true beginner or expert playing? If in trouble, they just change their skill level to beginner before the TD arrives, and they are save. But maybe a technical solution can help here. Have a nice day hotShot
  3. Hello Karl! I see your point now! Have a nice day Robert
  4. Hi! Stupid Bidding is not irregular, stupid play is not irregular and stupid claims are not irregular. The opponents have a right to get a good score, if the declarer does one of the above. Irregular would have been, if the dummy tried to correct the claim. So the TD has no right or reason to correct the score here! Have a nice day hotShot
  5. Hi! If you score IMP's you have go 2 ways to get the average result: 1) You simply calculate the average score for each board scoring every result. 2) You cut a number (n) of scores at the top and the bottom and average the rest. The main difference is, that if you are using the second way, the average result of every board should give 0 IMP's. Example we have: 4 * 420 and -50 Method 1) gives you an average of: 326 So here everybody gets some big +/-IMP scores. Method 2) with n=1 gives an average of: 420 420 leads to 0 IMP's -50 leads to very big IMP's So with method 2 having 0 IMP's in the end you know that you have a middle position. With method 1 the middle position can have some value different from 0 you don't know. hotShot
  6. Hi! Would it be possible to install a new tourney timing named speedball, in extension to clocked and unclocked.. Instead of setting a time limit per round, the TD should set a percentage of tables that has to be finished to make a round complete. It would be very nice if a minimum time could be set, so that the players can see something valid on the round clock. For example in a Tourney with 40 tables when 90% (36 Tables) have finished, the round is closed. Since there is a function where TD’s see how many tables have finished, and changing the round can be forced be modifying the round clock, it should technically be possible to implement this. The advantages are, not too much unfinished boards while still having a fast movement. The rate of Adjustments can be planed by the TD. This method can be applied to any pair or individual tourney. Complex hands have a little more time (although nobody knows how much). If more tables than the cut allows try to let the time run out, they fail because the TD can get to the tables while the round is still on. Have a nice day hotShot
  7. I wanted to point out that this might not be a psyche (makes no sence in first hand) but an unusual system not alerted. Hidden information is bad enough, but perhaps not as bad as taking views or worse.
  8. Hi! I think they are playing a "forcing pass" system. 1♠ shows any hand below opening, and then pass with 10 hcp is normal bidding. hotShot
  9. Hi all! Today i had a bunch off interesting cases: Running a tourney with 8min/board 1board/round (announced with 7 but, could not keep the pace) I had 2 Pairs that finished almost no board on time. Second round they meet and they did not even finish the bidding within 8 minutes! For the next rounds one pair asked for setting the result to 6♥X (which should be made without major problems). Questions: Would you adjust a board where the bidding was not completed by passing 3 times? have a nice day hotShot
  10. :) And i thought i played those all the time
  11. I agree that the behaviour you describe is rude. But how many of these tables did not know this was going to happen? Making everybody leave his/her table 5 minutes earlier will not change that. Uday’s suggestion is like carrying a ladder, no harm done at the front end ….. The first victims of Uday’s proposal are players who joined the tourney not knowing that they picked a “rude” partner. Suddenly just before the tourney starts they are unregistered with no chance to get back in. Missing a tourney like that, people will get tired of using the “partnership desk”. Players will no longer volunteer to be a sub, if that means they cannot do anything but hoping to be invited. This leads to tables to crash in tourneys and probably tourneys to crash. Being a TD is always limited fun. At BBO it is even less fun, bad connections, to little time to react within the round and “rude” behaviour of players. If players are no longer allowed to play while they are waiting for the tourney to start, they will log on and do something else. The result will be, that in the first round a lot of players will not be ready to play. At that stage players could not register as sub, so you’re options are very limited and if you sub, established partnerships will be ripped apart. In the end we all will suffer. I refuse any attempt to make the overwhelming majority of players suffer for the rudeness of a few. If one of the big tourneys with 200 tables starts 800 people (+TD’s) are involved. Your 20 crashed tables had perhaps 20 to 40 people that did not get off on time. Let's assume all did not inform their table, it’s 2.5-5% off the players.
  12. So what you are saying is: There are a rude people that join tables knowing that there tourney is going to start "any" minute. As you noticed yourself, most of your friends and i assume it's most of the BBO-players won't act like that. I have been asked to fill fill in for 3 boards by frieds lots of times, who wanted to play a little more before they leave. If they agree why should i not play with them untiil my tourney starts? State that you don't want players playing just for a few boards in the table description. If a player ignores that, report that rudeness!
  13. Let us be very carefull here! Why offend partners and TD'S? Because my tourney partner couldn't leave his/her table x minutes to the tourney start, i can't play ? Well you could say there might be 3 offended players at the table and only one partner but is this what you realy want? As a TD i give a limit of players i can handle and my well planned tourney looses x players and their partners because they could not finish at deadline? They might even be dummies at their tables!! hotShot
  14. Hi! Opener should rebid 4 ♥, that the contract he wants to play. If Partner is much stronger than minimum, he will find a bid. Have a nice day hotShot
  15. Hi Uday! If i would make my judgement based on 10 seconds i would agree with your view. But if one side used 6 of 8 minutes while the others needed 2, you would need to start a lot of tournament to justify that. That information would help the director a lot. what also would be very helpful would be: an automaticly played last trick and a check for delibarate slow play If an unfinished contract is down, check if this might be a top score for defence and assign A-+ or A+- in that case. If an unfinished contract is made, check if this might be a top score and assign A+- or A-+. And please give the TD's a /tourneylog like the /myhands site showing: Who played what board at what table Who was subbed when Have a nice day hotShot
  16. Hi! It would be nice to see, what clubs one is a member of. Today i was wondering, why i do get these messages from someone i do not know, in a language i do not speak. Now i realised i must be in his/her private club. I asume someone i promised to play a tourney with, applied for that membership so we could play. I have no trouble with that, but would be nice to get some kind of you just joined XXXXX message. have a nice day Robert
  17. Hi! Newest first seems a good! Perhats that should be mentioned at the "Suggestions for Software" board. Have a nice day hotShot
  18. Hi! Look here: http://forums.bridgebase.com/in...g10098#msg10098 Here it says starting with round 3. If ypu set the cut to 0% and modify the tourney at round 5 you can cut after round 5. If ther are more tricks to it, i don't know them. Have a nice day hotShot
  19. If you close the BirdgebaseVu.exe and restart it! You can register as sub! Just to mention that. Have a nice day hotShot
  20. If my sugestion would be fullfilled, a player running prios to the end is still listed next to the bad result. Might stop one or the other to leave, since it makes no difference than. Have a nice day hotShot
  21. Well most is said about opening that and or not opening that hand. One importend fact i missed here! If West opens his hand, than he knows that they should stop bidding as soon as possible! He knows partner does not have opening strength and he holds minimum. Keeping that in mind (even if ignoring it B) no problem should occure. Have a nice day hotShot
  22. Good Point Karl! The result of one score correction would lead to a maximum of 0.25% each in that 10 board tourney. But let us take a look on the result again: First has: 213.5 57.39% => 372 = 100% 2nd has: 190.7 57.10% => 334 = 100% 3rd has: 211.5 56.85% => 372 = 100% Since there can be sitouts, unplayed Boards, unfinisched boards, survivor movements wich all lead to a diffrent number of results per board the comparisom is difficult. There is another possibility, the tournament is parted to groups of 16 to 25 tables, could it be that the movie score is that from your chunk, and not the overall one? But the problem seem deeper than i asumed. Have a nice day hotShot Seems the second did not finisch one board, so the base for that result is different. Even
  23. Hi! Today i had to sub a player at the seconds before the last round, so the 60+x% Score was listed to the sub. Of cause the player was disapointed not to see his name on the list. So might it be possible to list the players (and perhaps the number of rounds they played in the result list. Might be helpful to directors in other ways too. Have a nice day hotShot
  24. The new Version will have a feature fo a player to call for subbing his partner. It is in the 3.5.4 beta and will apear in the next release. Have a nice day hotShot
  25. Hi! Better post that in the sugestion for software Discussion! Have a nice day hotShot
