I think gaining 15 posts a day on inquiry for you is pretty reasonable, which would translate into ~1 month.

A trump could work very poorly if declarer is then able to pitch his spade(s) on the heart(s). It is also possible that tapping is necessary. It's also possible that we pick off some trump holding with a trump lead. A trump could work well when dummy is say 1-3 in the minors, and we are able to later get partner in to play another trump. Overall I like the SQ but it seems pretty close.

I think it depends on the rest of your hand and especially on the quality of your spades. QJT9xx is a lot different than Q65432 obviously. I doubt we are very far apart in how often we would pull with 6 spades.

Coded 9 and 10s vs standard leads

Saying that you cannot understand how one would allow partner to play 3N when they have 8 solid of a minor is pretty funny also... -
Sorry but you are dreaming. People don't think overcalling 3N shows a balanced hand and that you can thus get to a 5-3 spade fit. Even if 3N always showed a balanced hand it is not clear why you would go to a 5 card suit...partner can have a doubleton. But 3N just says "I think 3N might make." It can be made on a wide range of shapes and hands because it is the only way to get there. I don't believe you would not overcall 3N on A Ax AKQJxxx Jxx because 3N shows a balanced hand to you. That is just absurd. Not overcalling 3N on J KQx AKJxx AQJx (what on earth would you bid?) is also absurd. There are a lot of hands with a stiff spade where you must bid 3N out of necessity. The reason some are bidding 3N and some are Xing is not because they think theres a difference in what 3N shows, they are just using different judgment.

flanneryyyyyyy Haha, seriously I don't understand question 2, it just depends on your system. How about "0, I play gazilli."

If p has 5 spades, we still can play 4S, if we overcall 3NT, espesially, if partner knowes, that our stopper could be poor. With kind regards Marlowe How does he know we aren't 1237 with a solid minor? Overcalling 3NT doesn't promise a balanced hand, partner usually won't even pull with 6 spades. I would expect him to pull, and personnally I promise a (semi) bal. hand, but I agree, that a lot depends on what hands one expects to overcall 3NT or not. If my p has the 7321 shape (I checked, the cross sum is 13), and I pull, he will know what to do. With kind regards Marlowe lol, yeah I'm sure he'll just go back to 3N if you pull 3N...

Coded 9 and 10s vs standard leads

hmm I would still hate to lead the jack when I don't have an interior sequence and let declarer know my partner has the short king -
How to safely explore for slam
Jlall replied to jh51's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Yes I agree, cuebidding is not really a good system in this auction. Playing your system I think 3N would show a slam try with a club side suit. Playing that, partner would probably cuebid with 2 aces including the CA, or 2 side aces and the CJ/doubleton club, so I would do that. Or maybe 3N shows spades and 4C shows clubs for you, but same concept (partner would at least last train with 2 aces and the CJ). I don't see any reason why we'd have to blackwood here. edit: sry I see that your bids show shortness, not side suits, I misread. OK same concept, you could show shortness somewhere and expect partner to cuebid/last train with the appropriate hands. Or you could ask for shortness with 3S, and when partner showed none with 3N, you could cuebid 4C. Blackwood just seems lazy. -
And becuase you might miss 7C? I don't see why you would want to bid 3N even if you could.

Coded 9 and 10s vs standard leads
Jlall replied to jh51's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Meh that's not really fair. Obviously the problem with standard leads is that if you lead a J or T it is unknown if you have an interior sequence or not, which can lead to guesswork by the defenders. -
You should have 3 ways to raise, weak (defined as partner should pass with 18-19 bal), constructive (defined as partner should bid 3N with 18-19 bal), and limit+ If you are only using the direct raise and the jump raise as ways to raise the minor, then you have 2 bids to show 3 hand types. You can then choose to define 3m however you want, including wide ranging incorporating both weak and constructive, but at the end of the day whatever you choose will always be flawed because you have too many hand types to show in too few bids. FWIW if playing this way, I like to play vul that the jump raise is constructive like 6-9, and 0-5 either passes or bids 1N. I like to play that NV the jump is weak like 0-5, and the constructive bids 1N. I think most people tend to just have a very wide range for 3m and hope for the best. Of course, I hate playing a system like this and would much rather dedicate a 3rd bid for sorting this out.

Because if you bid 3S and partner bids 4H he clearly has 2 aces? -

I'm not a fan but a lot of people play it -
Why is it fine if he takes it as a cuebid? I see this argument a lot, but if partner has denied a control in a suit and you then cuebid another suit, you're showing a control in the suit he has denied a control in. As such he might just bid keycard if he thinks you're cuebidding and you get to slam off the AK of clubs which is not really "fine."
-
When playing 4 way transfers I play transfer to the minor then 4 of the major = 5-6, but I have no bid if I'm 5-6 and slammish since that auction is just choice of games.

X t/o 2N nat is "standard" though a lot of people are using 2N artificially now,
