  1. Yep I like to bid suits that will often be our best trump fit.
  2. 5332, partner is welcome to bid any suit, not just 6S or 6N, as we might belong in a 5-3 fit. I will pull with a doubleton. To bid GSF bid texas then 5N
  3. Pretty sure it is well known that Lennon tripped more times on acid than almost anyone. He references tripping many times in his songs. I think acid can make you reach a higher state that you can not otherwise reach, and I wouldn't be surprised if it helped their music a lot.
  4. Cuebidding? Don't you need a trump suit first? In the real world when you aren't looking at six hearts and you're still looking for a trump fit you probably wouldn't think 3s was a cue lol. Partner can still be 62 in majors or 52 with a diamond stopper or spades in a 52 can be better than hearts in a 52 etc. Likewise with 55 I doubt you'd think 4c was a cue when 5 or 6c in a 53 could easily be better than a 52 heart fit. Thus 4d is just a bid that confirms hearts are trumps and stronger than 4h as Andy said. Even if you know what trumps should be you have to tell pard he can't read your mind
  5. In ~350 posts jdonn will pass inquiry so this thread will be valid though. !H Jdonn! Except maybe not since inquiry is posting again.
  6. Yes 3N is wrong, you may belong in 7S opp Kxx KQJxx x AKxx (16), or in 7H opp Kx KQTxxx x AKxx (15), or in 6C opposite Kx Kxxxx x AKxxx (13!) etc etc. If you are moving over 4H in this auction for slam, then you could get too high opposite x KJTxxx xx AQxx etc. Basically there is no reason to jump to 3N when so many possible strains and levels are possible.
  7. The key to this hand is partner's club holding, which he would know had you shown both minors rather than just showing diamonds. Now you will just have to guess, and I'm not gonna wildly guess on a grand so I'd bid 6D.
  8. the hand that wanted to bid 3C intermediate? x xx Kxx AQxxxxx ? Going past 3N seems dangerous with this hand, though you may have a club slam, you also may have a misfit that can make 3N on power. Having no way to raise hearts strongly is really absurd though, for every hand you have that you want to bid 4 of a minor (I don't deny that they exist), you have 20 that wants to show a slam positive hand for hearts without having to just bid 5H.
  9. Mutual friends opinion doesn't count for much when he is a 4S bidder though... o wait that's me.
  10. Yeah I'd pass, it's not like bidding 6C now gains much, it takes some room away from them for trying to 7 and that's about it.
  11. What? Opener is supposed to force to the 5 level with Axx AJxx KQTxxx ? Well partner did think for a long time before bidding 4H! Pretty sure I would not find this slam.
  12. I think correcting to 5C is possible, trying for slam is not, partner never showed extras.
  13. I think it's an awesome convention. Sure you payoff to rare hand types like this where you're super weak in diamonds and partner is also weak in diamonds and RHO couldn't bid (basically never), but when you actually have a 2C opener the opps cannot really massively interfere because they're assuming you have a weak opener. edit: Obviously the biggest payoff is if you have a weak 2 in diamonds and they have more room, but if you're going to play say multi, I would much prefer to play 2C=weak 2 in diamonds or strong 2C than just play 2C=strong 2C.
  14. I would not want to be in slam. LHO is likely to have short spades, but I cannot hook righty for the queen since I need to ruff a diamond. Also as helene says you could go down when the stiff Q of spades drops on 5-1 diamonds. Also LHO never has 4 trumps so it's not like being able to pick up a 4-0 trump onside is going to help you %agewise. I would guess that this is <50 % on the bidding. If you play keycard you recognize you miss slams that are ok sometimes since it's not a huge deal anyways even if you miss one that is on picking up this trump suit, and usually you arent solid in every other suit so it's worse than that (as here). It's not a big deal. You had a good auction.
  15. I really really dislike a major suit lead. I think this is the type of hand where you must bang down an ace and it is a mistake not to. The DA is better than the CA, even though the CA is good when partner has a stiff club.
  16. rebidding 2D would be absurd
  17. Unlucky. Yes, that would be the problem with that line. Yeah you also lose the chance that if the CK is actually on, RHO lazily pitches down to 2-2 in the blacks and you have a free endplay (happens a lot).
  18. What if your LHO wins the club and plays another club through dummy?
  19. 5-9ish is normal. Not supporting immediately with support is a recipe for disaster, it's way worse than having a slightly wider range.
