Personally if I was trying to obey a law to not work, I wouldn't work. If I did then choose to work I wouldn't say that I am incapable of WRITING because my religion prohibits working. If I suspected my opp of doing this I might LOL before repeating my request to know what the bid means, and reminding them that they cannot talk behind screens. If they spoke or didn't tell me I would call the director and have a penalty enforced.

I think double is penalty so I would pass. However, if you thought double was something other than penalty I don't think a slow X suggests either takeout or penalty either way. Thus, you can do whatever you want. It's not like you have a hand that wants to pull a slow penalty double, you should be jumping up and down on your chair so happy that partner doubled.

What about getting paid (a lot) of money to play on the sabbath? Not familiar with the Jewish laws, how is that thought about? Isn't it similar to working, especially when bridge is your source of income? If you are choosing to obey some laws and not others, does that affect the answer to OPs question or is it irrelevant? Personally I would be a little annoyed if someone did this and I was opposing them. It would seem hypocritical to me, and self serving.

I prefer to play the rebid as showing 5-5 at the 3 level (suggested by kokish). There are alot of problems with rebidding 3D with this hand. You can still get there if you play a style where you cannot rebid 3D with this hand, north can bid 2N and south can bid 3D and that will get you there. Rebidding 2N with a 16 count has the problem of getting you to 3N opposite a 16 count as well though. If north rebids 2S, south bids 2N and north bids 3D and now south doesn't know north has extras and might be tempted by 3N with KJx of clubs... oops. So we go back to rebidding 3D with 5-4 when you have extras, warts and all? I dunno but it makes this hand easier. I just think there's no great solution to this problem.

rumors of his death, it appears, have been greatly exaggerated... exaggerated, but not greatly! Oh no you didn't!

Ken you of all people, the supreme lover of controls and playing strength, like opening this hand 2N? My world is crumbling. Opening 1C and rebidding 2D is just so auto wtf. Now that I mention it...you Ken, the lover of bidding fake suits...

It is clear cut.

I heard a story once about a midnight game where these 2 guys were playing and it went: 1S ALERT opps asked, "asks for my singleton if I have a GF hand" p 2C ALERT shows a singleton club, and asks for my 6 card suit p 2H ALERT etc. The opps then complimented them on their fine system <_<

Agree with pass then pass, especially white/red, but even red/white we just don't have enough of a hand to bid 5.
-
3S, disagree that we are good enough for 4D over 2N. In fact haven't we already shown a hand at least this good by bidding diamonds then spades? Or is walsh not standard enough to be assumed. Even not playing walsh I would pass 3N.

this board works - another card combo

Leading the ten looks sexy since it picks up stiff 9 and stiff 8 on our left, but it loses to Jx onside which is a huge loss, not to mention stiff K on our right. Starting with low off dummy seems clear. After that we must put in the queen as we have entry problems if we play the ace. So a simple low to the queen for me. I'm guessing this is wrong since so many declarers went down. -
Journalist leads vs suits are basically rusinow (J from QJx). The more commonly known journalist leads are vs NT (jack denies).
-
FWIW I do not think 4N is 3 suit takeout, it's 2 places to play, so I will never play hearts when it's right. Still, it's much preferable to doubling.
-
Yes leading the queen is standard.
-
You can also use 6N to show a minimum with four hearts. You wouldn't want to even though you could. I disagree strongly with forcing to the 3 level with a minimum on an auction where it is very hard for the opponents to come into the auction safely.

discourage the suit partner plays if you want a ruff seems like a WTP...

Passing after 4H-4S-5C is lol bad. Agree with 4S rather than keycard, you want partner to keycard (or cuebid 5D then you can bid 5S and get to 7 when it's right). What did that person expect their partner to have where slam is bad? Not cuebidding over 4C is lol bad. Yes you only have 18 points, but jesus you have a great slam hand. You need very little. For instance...partner's hand.

Good hand to play that 3S shows.... oh wait.

I will admit I would be tempted with Axx Axxx Axxx Ax. OK I'd even do it then.

Agreed, then I think it would depend a lot on the exact style of your 11-15, but I'd lean towards 2N. If my 11-15 was a lot of 10 counts I would probably be content with 2H though.
