4♦ then Pass. Someone once said something about negative doubles on 11 cards in two suits, I believe his last name was LOL or Logic. :)
-
Even a simple 1♥ - 2♣ [/Game Forcing] 3N - 4♣ [17-19 BAL/RKC in ♣] 4♥ - 4♠ [0 or 3/Queen Ask] 5♥ - 7N [Yes, and ♥K/I can count 3♠, 3♥ 1♦ and 6♣] Would work.

Excuse me? Partner is supposed to cuebid a natural call? Fun.
-
I would pass, however I am sure that I'll miss game occasionally. It seems like taking a bit of a view to try for game with this hand... Partner needs a pretty good hand. I don't see any real good way to make a try either.

You know you want to

The form of scoring matters almost always, even if not stated in the OP, nice try at a comeback though :) -
[hv=pc=n&s=skj952hak3dk7cj92&d=w&v=0&b=8&a=p1h2d]133|200[/hv] Cuebid or introduce your own suit? Perhaps this one is wtp :)

[hv=pc=n&s=sat753hqj9632dca2&d=e&v=0&b=14&a=p]133|200[/hv] What do you open and why? In a fairly standard 2/1 context.

Check the tech file :) I believe it is legal.

I'll have to dig up Fred's writeup about playing 2N as Natural and Forcing. That seems like a really good idea, and having 1M-Cheapest J/S as the GF raise works pretty well it seems. Is there really any good way to sort out the minor suits after 1M-2♣ as 2+♣? It seems like most of the time they are hopelessly lost. Also, when showing a Balanced GF with 3M, how do you do that but keep 3N in the picture, such as a hand similar to the one I posted in the "Play 4S" thread: [hv=pc=n&s=sat853hajtdtca876&n=sk42h9752dakjcqj4&d=s&v=0&b=11&a=1sp2cp3cp]266|200[/hv] Or is this something that you choose to give up on by playing this way? I am also assuming you are using 1M-3N as a good 1M-4M call, otherwise I suppose you could try 3N with the North hand above...

You have 5 hearts to the Ten. You are Red/White Partner could have shown both majors, and did not. You have diamonds, meaning this is probably a misfit. Even if partner has Heart support, you will be ruffing diamonds with all of partner's heart honours. Partner will be expecting MUCH more than this, in both values and suit quality, and be raising quite often to a hopeless game. Anything I missed?

Go to "My Settings" -> "Profile" -> "Manage Ignored Users" Bye now. -
Yeah, what Phil said :)

1. I blame the opponents on this one. The 3♥ call is from outer space. 4N is a questionable call however I would duplicate that call as well. The pass of 4N was actually quite a good choice on this particular hand. Getting out undoubled is a major victory. I'm not sure I would find it, and fairly often I am sure 5♣ would be the winning call. 3♥ wins the award for worst bid here. 2. 4♠ is pretty far out IMO. A 4333 hand with no controls and QTx in the opponent's suit is not anything resembling a 4♠ call. I don't fully understand the jump to 6♠ either, since without any void, Keycarding is a normal option. Given that we are *cough* not playing Keycard, I would bid 6♠, 4♠ wins the award for worst call of this auction though. 3. 5♠ is not great, but understandable. I might duplicate this auction.

What do you do with this?
mtvesuvius replied to jillybean's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
What a miserable hand. I almost want to sit for it just because I think that -470 or -570 may be our lowest negative score at this point. I would bid 2N planning on passing 3♣, however 2♠ is a close second. -

That was Les in his younger days. He would now open this. I'll ask him today to be sure, but I gave him a hand I held a few months ago: AKQTxxxx - AT98 J At the table, I passed that hand (2nd chair W/W), and when LHO decided not to open his 12 count with 5 Hearts and a spade void (rule of 15? LOL), my partner threw his cards in with his 7 HCP, which included the ♦K. I restrained myself from saying anything until the end of the 8 board match, where I calmly handed my partner my 13 cards on that board... He refused to stop laughing for the next hour or so... Especially after comparing with our teammates, who defeated 6♠ Doubled a trick for +100, and win 3 IMPs. Anyway, when I gave Les this hand, his reply was "In my younger days I would have passed, but now I would bid 1♣ (Strong)"
-
I highly doubt even directors would believe that you were intending to open a weak 2♦ on this hand :)
-
1) 2NT - Scrambling. Barring that I'd bid 3♣. 2) 3NT - Not enough spots for me to consider worth a slam try. I expect partner to upgrade responsibly.
-
What would you bid with something like AKx Axxx Qxx xxx?
-
A hand came up today where arguably we could have avoided a bad grand slam, had we been able to know how many cards in the 2/1 suit, responder is showing. What minimum length do you prefer to use for 2♣/2♦/2♥ in response to 1♠? What minimum length do you prefer to use for 2♣/2♦ in response to 1♥? This would be in a fairly standard 2/1 context without any relays etc. 14-16 NT opening if it matters.

open 1heart or 1club or 4clubs?
mtvesuvius replied to Wackojack's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
4♣ for me, no outside cards is bad, but a good 9 card suit seems to be enough. -
How can you show this suit?
mtvesuvius replied to elwood913's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
No, that should be a splinter (or Western Cuebid) depending on agreements. There are two ways - Passing and bidding a lot later, or bidding 4 of their major, which should be to play. I would pass and later come to life depending on the auction. Passing then bidding 3♥ could perhaps be taken as such a hand. I am not too concerned about this hand being played in 1♥ since if partner cannot take a call with what we know to be (very) short hearts, we probably cannot make too much. Generally I would say Hearts, however if partner shows some life in diamonds, 3N seems reasonable. I would start with a pass, if the auction does not come back to me again, I'll be fine with that. -
I also bid 4♣, partner can judge his hand accurately, and raise (hopefully) most of the time when it is right. I am not bidding 5♣ over 4♥, and I will respect partner's decision here, unless of course that decision is 4♥.
