  1. I don't think I would ever find a raise of 5♦ to 6♦ at the table, however on paper it really doesn't look too bad. Having understated your hand earlier in the auction, I'm not sure that you really should try to make up lost ground so drastically. I am having a hard time constructing hands where South could bid 5♦ where slam doesn't have any play. Perhaps KQxx Jx Axxxx AQ? Even still, they have to lead a spade. Timo's hands are completely extreme, and quite unlikely. Having said this, 5♦ does seem like a signoff... Especially with a 4♣ cuebid available. Raising to 6♦ may have an effect on partnership trust, and in the long run may not be best. I think the problem lies in the 2♥ call with the North hand, and (of course) South's jump to 5♦ with this hand, which is worth at the very least, a small poke at slam. Perhaps starting with 1♥, and planning on bidding 5♦ if 4♠ comes back to you may be best. There really isn't a good solution to this hand unless playing 3♥ as a fit jump as well, which IMO, is the proper treatment for 3♥ by a passed hand.
  2. On the first round of clubs, declarer will pitch a heart, and partner will play his lowest club (I think). On the second round of clubs, declarer will pitch a spade, and partner will follow with the ♣J. Third round of clubs then is up to you :)
  3. Awful bridge all around. 4♥ is the worst bid I have seen in a LONG time. Even your partner's pass is better than 4♥! You should go buy a lot of lottery tickets.
  4. I agree with pass over 2♥, I am not bidding if it goes 4♥ by LHO back to me. I bid 5♣ over the Balancing double however 4N is not unreasonable, especially since partner may have been kind of endplayed into balancing and may be slightly offshape, especially given our shape. Given that I chose to invite this (!), I am passing over 5♣, not going to try to make up for an error earlier by severely overbidding now.
  5. *echo* Game on the first, the ♣K is a huge card, and having a doubleton is an added bonus. 3♠ on the second... Opposite even a good constructive raise, I'm not thrilled about game, as 655321 said, partner needs two keycards, and even then game isn't great. 3♦ should be available here as a general game try as well, but I don't think this hand has enough to try that.
  6. They currently do not. Online points are colourless, and count toward 1/3 of the necessary MPs for any Rank attained. They cannot be used as a specific colour MP for a rank either. They do count toward your overall total (even if not used towards your rank).
  7. I'll do a Double Double Double :)
  8. I like to play Fit Jumps not just as a single-jump, but double-jumps etc also, according to your level of fit. IMO, this is a great hand for a 3♥ call if it is available. Either way however, I give South most (if not, all) of the blame on this hand. Jumping to 5♦ seems counterproductive. We have plenty of room to explore slam, and opposite most fit jumps, slam will be at worst on a finesse. Starting with 4♣ is probably my choice, then partner could probably figure out to Keycard with 4♦ (or 4N as 6 RKC Blackwood), and get all the necessary information. I doubt we'd find 7 though.
  9. I'd start with 2♣, then 2♠ over 2♦. My plan is to eventually bid RKC in ♣ unless partner shows a stiff club. In that case, I'd probably just blast 6N at some point after some ace asking sequence...
  10. LOL I agree with the Fluffyness. Double.
  11. This hand is coupled with the "Bidding Plan?" thread: http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/topic/42644-bidding-plan/ [hv=pc=n&s=skj952hak3dk7cj92&n=sat763hqj9642dca3&d=w&v=0&b=8&a=p1h2d3d5c5dp6hppp]266|200[/hv] Was our auction at the table. I'm not convinced it's right to show spades here, since if the auction comes back at some high level, we may be badly placed. I certainly see the merits of it though. I chose 3♦ at the table, and after that, the spade suit was lost forever. We did well to get to 6♥ after the rough start, but reaching a spade grand on these hands seems awfully tough.

If your team wins this match, you will place fairly high overall. If you lose it, you won't place at all. The general state of the match is that you are up by 5 or so IMPs with this board to play. Unfortunately it's a swing... How do you defend this pushy contract? Partner leads the ♥J, and declarer plays the Queen, King, Ace. Now comes the ♣Q, and declarer hooks the Club to the ten after some thought. What do you pitch on three rounds of clubs? You play UDCA.[/hv] I was the declarer on this hand, so you can judge however you'd like about my skill, and base your defense from there. I won't be surprised if a few people play me to revoke multiple times
  14. xxx AQx KQxx JTx Need I say more? :)
  15. I'd double, but I hate matchpoints, meh, not bridge.
  16. I agree in principle here, however I think this is a classic 1N call. Protecting Kx♠ and Jxx♥ is important, and I think this is a hand that clearly wants to be played from the South hand. I definitely don't like bidding 1♦ here, not happy when partner has something like Txx AKx KQxx xxx or something. Worse yet when partner has a 2N rebid.
  17. In addition, should 3rd/5th vs 4th matter here?
  18. Very true Helene, there aren't really tons of people who would use it, but it'd be a fun tool to have if someone is sitting around bored for a few days ;)
  19. Today we had a very interesting hand come up. The "interestingness" was not at my table though. My teammate held: [hv=pc=n&s=sj54h87532dqjt62c&d=w&v=b&b=4&a=1c1d1s5d5s6d6sdppp]133|200[/hv] IMPs at Swiss Teams (7 Boards a match), do you agree with his double of 6♠? Should it be "leader-lightner"? Next, what would you lead from this hand, and what diamond seems most likely to convince partner that you are ruffing a club return?
  20. If you double: If you bid 2♠: If you bid 3♦:
  21. I am passer. If I had a King and a Queen with this shape, I would probably bid 1N, however I don't really see how it can be right with this particular hand. At least if I were to bid 1N, I would not be horrified no matter what partner does.
  22. An interesting topic that I would like as an operator occasionally, would be to load a pre-made FD card when Vugraphing for a pair. Having to option to do so might be a nice touch, and would make alerting some calls simpler (As well as provide a basic system outline for anyone who is curious). Not sure if it'd be practical to have, but for pairs who are on vugraph enough, with their permission, perhaps we could build FD cards.
