https://tinyurl.com/yxvmk4mr GIB ignores 5 card ♦ suit to bid 4 card ♥ suit and then passes 1♠?! Surely the sequence should be 1♣ 1♦ 1♠ 1N 2♣ pass
-
I just had the following sequence 2♣ 3♣ (GIB has ♣KQJ85 and two doubletons the usual overbid) 4N 5♦ and now GIB thinks 5♥ and 5♠ are both trump Q query surely 5♠ should be a command to bid 5N? It would be nice to use 4♣ or 4♦ as rkcb

I guess I have been unlucky then. Never seen that image.

BBO went out of their way to consult the membership on the new logo. Who the heck did they consult for the photo? Did they even look at the ethnicity of their membership? How does this reflect the online nature of BBO and the diversity of the membership?

I am also getting the critical file error on laptop and iPad What is going on?

I refuse to play with any partner who pulls my penalty double, and I refuse to play with any partner that thinks the West hand has a penalty double

There are more possible bridge hands than atoms in the universe. Chances are you will never get a hand dealt at home that matches a hand dealt on bbo if you get 4 packs of cards, you could get historical hands and make them up yourselves and then score them against what was achieved at the original event

4th suit game force???
nekthen replied to dickiegera's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Nothing is more frustrating in bridge than seeing a fatuous bid by opps lead to a sub optimal result. I think North should pass the double of 1♥, we want to keep open the possibility that we can punish the doubler. The important point is that by passing we force N to bid. We can often get more from doubling the resulting contract than we would get from a part score or even game. I think it would be good to agree that pass shows 0-2 ♥, but otherwise nothing more about the hand. It also sets up the agreement that any double by partner or you is for money. If N has the temerity to pass E has an easy redouble -
Minor vs. Major response
nekthen replied to arepo24's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Short answer is never. Assuming you are playing 5 card majors, you have found your 9 card fit. You could agree that 3m shows this hand type. As mentioned any hand with 11 hcp, 4 card support and a 5 card suit is a 7 loser hand or better and you want to force to game. You can use splinter or Jacoby as appropriate Most people will expect only 3 card support when partner starts off with 2m and then supports partner, which may result in missed slams -
Double, Diamond or ?

Double then bidding diamonds shows more playing strength. I double and pass any 1 or 2 level bid by partner -

How to best sharpen my bidding & play?
nekthen replied to Jschatzman's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
I would consider joining the BIL and or IAC clubs. They have regular group teaching sessions and tournaments where you will hopefully find some partners of a similar standard. There are some conventions that were considered esoteric 20 years ago, that are standard now and it would be best to learn how to play them. Google will tell you what you need to know. 1. RKCB is so much better than Blackwood 2. Puppet Stayman over 2N 3. 4 suit Transfers 4. Unassuming Cue Bids 5. Michaels Cue Bids 6. Support doubles 7. Jacoby 2N There are others but I would guess this is what the majority would expect you to play in a pick up game on bbo As well as being a mind game bridge is a partnership game and finding some people to play with is far better for you and your bridge than playing with robots -
What does this show
nekthen replied to dickiegera's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
I think that's pretty old school Most people play a 2N rebid as 18-19 and 3N as some sort of gamble with a 6 card suit -
Two or five key cards
nekthen replied to pilowsky's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
The lesson is take it slow and dont mastermind partner. Playing with a human, I hope that you would simply respond 1♠ -
You don't want to practice Jacoby with an unsuitable hand! N bid is 4♦ not 2N

Hand here This went for 800 Do you think partner should stick his neck out with an SOS xx?

I like to post hands to the forum and would like to include the whole hand, but I do not want to "shame" anyone. So how can I post the hand with all the history but no names? Maybe someone at BBO could add this facility to the export function or hand viewer
