Because the director doesn't like to walk far
crazy4hoop replied to Phil's topic in Laws and Rulings
I'm not sure this is legal but could you have told the director that you had UI without specifying what that UI was and have him fill in on the board? -
Happy birthday! When the hell are we going to Atlantic City?

please don't turn this into a heated topic

FWIW I'm in awm's camp on this one - reasoning seems perfectly sensible to me. Then again, maybe there is a reason I'm a club director and not a full time player... -
JLALL VS JDONN TOMORROW! I'm rooting for overtime! Good luck to all

This may very well be off the topic but the other day my blessed GIB partner asked for keycards with two small in a suit bid by the opponents. I concede my bidding up to that point was probably atrocious but is there a way to get GIB to not bid RKC with two fast losers in an unbid suit/suit bid by the opponents?

What you did seems right to me. 60% to a contestant who cannot play a board who is in no way at fault for not being able to play the board. Since you know which pair fouled it up, it also sounds like you zapped the right pair. As for ACBLscore, I think if you type FOUL on the command line (F11 then FOUL in Windows version), you get asked which board to score as fouled. Then you type in the board number and I think you hit the space bar for every round in which the board was played unfouled, F for the 1st fouled group, and maybe something like G if there is a second fouled group (God forbid the same board got fouled a second time!).

Be quick but don't hurry. Do not mistake activity for achievement. Happiness begins where selfishness ends. Make every day your masterpiece. Failing to prepare is preparing to fail. The worst thing you can do for those you love is the things they could and should do for themselves. (Abraham Lincoln) Success is peace of mind that is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing that you did your best to become the best you are capable of becoming. These are just a few of the adgaes he used. I strongly recommend reading his book (co-authored by Steve Jamison) entitled "Wooden: A Lifetime of Observations and Reflections on and off the Court." I was lucky enough to attend one of his basketball camps about 25 years ago and I still remember him giving a lecture at the camp and can truly say that his teachings expand beyond the realm of basketball and into the "real world." He will be missed. R.I.P.

Maybe for a dumb reason I chose N since D is the 4th letter from the beginning of the alphabet and W is 4th from the end. M is 13th from the beginning and N is 13th from the end. There are probably better reasons for this as well as better reasons for other answers. I just can't figure them out.

Hi, I need a new wireless router. Which is the best to get? Among the ones that I know exist are D-Link, Linksys, Netgear, Buffalo, and Belkin. I welcome all feedback here. Thanks.

JLall, it is all good, I ain't mad atchya. Phil, who else did Romey have in the Rat Family? Coach K, Seles, Boeheim, Steve Lappas (former coach at Villanova), Randy Johnson (maybe?) I'm sure there are a bunch of others I am forgetting. I'm out...

A horrible night. Gordon Hayward came so close to being my ultimate hero. If only that desperation 3 had gone in. Instead that coach that looks like a damn rat with the nostrils of a dragon with 5 midget assistant coaches and a bunch of players whining and bitching about every call that doesn't go there way has another championship (I concede he's a great coach but still).

Definitely USC. Of course I'm biased since I went to UCLA. I thought there would be some UCLA haters out there which is ok. I also for some reason really enjoy rooting against Duke in basketball. I think back in the '80s Mike Krzyzewszki or however the hell you spell that last name complained about there being two sets of standards for officiating in the ACC - one for North Carolina and one for everybody else. Funny, but I feel that way about Duke - I think they are the team that referees use a special set of standards when officiating. I always get a kick out of coach K whining when his team is getting a meager 85% of the calls from the refs...

Responder held ♠Jxx ♥Qxx ♦xxx ♣KJxx This hand came up at a club game recently and my opinion was asked about what opener should do. I was leaning pass until I heard about the BIT where it almost now (maybe not almost - it does) make pass the ethical choice. Opener insisted he had a slam try, citing that one Ace and the ♠K would probably be enough for 6♦ to make. I'm not sure if he forgot partner's 1NT was in the very wide (5)6-10 range and to play her for such specific cards would be overly optimistic. I am pretty sure the slow 3NT indicates doubt about a real heart stopper and makes it more likely that she potentially held something useful in the black suits. It turns out I was not directing this day but was simply asked my opinion. The opponents didn't even call the director since 5♦ (the eventual landing spot) failed a trick but I have a feeling that they were not aware that 3NT would have sailed off 2. Thanks again everyone for your comments.

Thank you all for your input. BTW, I left out the fun part (intentionally, of course): partner bid a noticeably slow 3NT (all 4 players at the table including the 3NT bidder agreed that 3NT was slow).

♠AQxx ♥J ♦AKQJ109x ♣x You are the dealer, vul vs. not: YOU 1♦-(Pass)-1NT-(2♥)- 3♥-(Dbl)-3NT-(Pass)- ??? Scoring is matchpoints. I am not really concerned if you like your bidding so far but I am interested if you would take any action here. Does the form of scoring make a difference?

It is very good. I use it at my local club and I cannot find one negative thing about it. You might experience some growing pains at first but in the long run it is so well worth it imo. Good luck.

The Los Angeles area has at least two great chicken and waffle places called Roscoe's. I think one is in Pasadena and another is in Hollywood. I ate at the one in Hollywood and must say it was awesome even though it felt weird that the four of us in there were the only white folks there and the place was packed...at 2 in the morning even.

It wasn't the costume, it was the "wardrobe malfunction."
