  1. Where can you have 20 tables in a morning? I wanna live there. White Plains, NY. We get big crowds especially during this time of year when all the "snowbirds" are back from Florida and/or Arizona. You mean all the Rodwells, Meckstroths, Ekeblads, Granovetters etc on Tuesday morning? ;) Yeah, they all wanted NS near the men's room and Ekeblad offered us $500 if he could smoke... :)

  3. As to what's up? Dontrelle Willis' walks and ERA...
  4. 8 more walks in 3 and 2 thirds yesterday. Way to go D-train!
  5. I'm just kickin' it with my homies on the west sayeed. Not really, directing a 20-table game. I hate morning games...
  6. I like hanp's proposed auction of 1♠-2♦ 2♠-3NT with the exact descriptions he proposes each bid mean.
  7. ♣4 but I don't know why. Tempted to try ♦A but will stick with 1st answer.
  8. If he keeps walking people like that, the Tigers will have to trade him. Maybe a National League team will take him, especially if he can still handle a bat. I'm not sure if the Marlins would have done so well awhile back without that stick in the lineup...
  9. If the definition of a logical alternative is an alternative action that at least a significant minority of one's peers would consider selecting, then we must ask if a significant minority of your peers would consider doing something other than doubling. If so, then that action is deemed a logical alternative. If not, then the double would stand, etc. At least that's how I interpret things. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong, which happens a lot! :)
  10. 1.) No 2.) A little lattitude, maybe something like what rogerclee suggests. 3.) Yes, it's self-serving. My only guess is that East felt he couldn't pass the hand out after his partner doubled 1NT. I suppose he could have bid 2♠ unless he thought he needed more shape for that but to me that doesn't make a lot of sense since I'm not sure what is East supposed to do when he actually has a penalty double. Oh yes I do, he should double (at least I think he should). I certainly think West should be allowed to pull if the double were in tempo but I also think he would be more inclined to leave the double in had it been made in tempo. I might even go so far as to say this player is ethically bound to leave in the double but admit I might very well be wrong in this regard.
  11. Agreed but it was starting to sound like he was doubting himself when he clearly did the right thing.
  12. Does this make sense? It sounds to me like 2S shows a sub-minimum and 3S shows a hand that would not bid game opposite a limit raise. Don't you want to try to play 2S with either? We don't have game points, we play that 3♠ in response to Drury... I don't believe whatever you play in response to Drury is relevant here. You are not allowed to have the alert procedure inform you that your partner's bids are based on his beliefs of your bid being Drury. You must bid your hand as if your partner knew your 2♦ bid was natural. Other posters please inform me if I am mistaken, thanks. :)
  13. Not too sure but I believe the "standard" (if there is one) for a handpaid jackpot for slot winnings or video poker winnings is 0.5%. I usually am happy to tip this even though I wonder if the motivation of the slot attendant is to get a tip considering that he or she almost always gives me my last $100 in smaller denominations. I hate W2Gs but the money sure is nice. I need to learn some more games besides 9/6 Jacks or Better :)
  14. I can think of at least one director in the local clubs who I (and the majority of players in my area) would describe as appealing.Thank you very much but I no longer live in the Los Angeles area. ;)
  15. Just a guess but I would guess 12, which is 60% of 20, as 18 is 60% of 30.
  16. If we all could only sing "Take me out to the Ball Game" as well as Ozzy Osbourne...
  17. I voted neither-only during the pledge but honestly don't know for sure. Of course, Dodger fans are idiots... ...just kidding since I know we both bleed Dodger blue, even though most of the other Dodger fans I know arrive in the 3rd inning and leave in the 7th. 13 straight at home, awesome!
  18. Prescription drugs are more fun - just ask Rush Limbaugh. Legal too since lobbyists can get politicians to look after their interests. Pharmaceutical companies can't make a dime off pot use so they want to keep it illegal and have their drugs be the only option. They even make up diseases like restless leg syndrome as if that couldn't just be one's body telling one to get off his or her duff and start exercising. Instead, they prescribe a pill to cure this "problem" and rake in the dough. If you feel tired after a hard workout, they'll ask you if you have sore muscles and prescribe yet another drug on which they can profit. It's not like the proper diet and rest could be the answer. If anybody out there is truly suffering from restless leg syndrome, I apologize for making light of your affliction. I do not mean to offend anyone and am fully aware that there are prescription drugs out there that do a lot of good for people with real medical and/or psychological problems.
  19. Ok, here goes: 1. Levin/Weinstein 2. Helgemo/Helness 3. Hampson/Rodwell 4. Johnson/Meckstroth 5. Gitelman/Moss Gamblers, be sure to fade me!
  20. Nobody plays in SoCal regionals anyway, it would be such a shame for a regional there to lose its one section single digit number of tables open pairs for an international event. But seriously, how could anyone not want to be in the hunt for hosting something as prestigious as a world championship? D22 pretty much surrounds LA county, if I recall correctly, having lived in LA the first 26 years of my life. Would this proposed tournament be in San Diego, San Bernardino or Riverside (I doubt these Inland Empire citites have anything to offer internationalists unless they like cows), or Santa Barbara, Thousand Oaks, etc.? It is quite a large district geographically. Phil, please share with us those strong feelings you have about this issue. I, for one, would like to read them.
  21. I agree with what I believe are Justin's, Josh's, and Fred's main points - that the beauty of a BAM-scored event is that every trick is so crucially important - one cannot afford the slightest mental lapse at any time, which also makes it a grueling event which is advantageous to those with great bridge stamina and mental toughness (which I think is a good thing). I think it was Justin who said that if you wanted to play in an event where the 10 points didn't matter, go play IMPs. I remember playing at a regional in New York City several years ago where in a rather competitive auctioin, my opponent playing in 5 of a Major, played it carefully to try to make 7 for 510, which he did, in case his teammates took the save and went for one too many and were minus 500, which they were. Even though it was at my expense, I thought it was cool and have found BAM totally fascinating ever since.
  22. "Everything that guy over there just said is bulls%*$. Thank you." -Joe Pesci as Vincent Laguardia Gambini in "My Cousin Vinny." Hope that's random enough.
  23. Stupid Braves bullpen cost me money yesterday. If they keep this crap up, Bobby Cox may start beating his wife Pamela again. Ok, done venting about that dumb ass bullpen.
  24. We might get Harold and Barack go to Roscoe's chicken and waffles.
  25. Possibly problematic, as I imagine it's really a missile, not a rocket...
