  1. if the multi contains a strong hand, i wouldn't pass here. you only have 10 points and opps are passing away. the chance that p has the strong option is not negligible.
  2. with the 55 hands. i think 14-16 for a jump rebid is fairly common with anything stronger going through gazilli as for what range gazilli should be in general, i'd say a good 16+ if you want to take all the 5cM hands out of 1nt openers that obviously affects it, but that's a very bad idea imo
  3. with no wastage in clubs i think your partner owed you more than 3s. i think that's what XX should show.
  4. perhaps 2NT should be a forcing heart raise. with a weak no trump and a doubleton heart you'd probably just put the dummy down
  5. on values it's worth 4.5D. even if i could make some kind of game-try (only 3H would be non-GF imo) it might be counter-productive, steering them to the right lead. so i'd just pot 5. spades are not good enough to merit suggesting 4S.
  6. south can obviously do no more. north can envisage a few hands where slam is good, but is no doubt hamstrung by not having a forcing raise available, without misleading p as to shape. perhaps he could try 4C, but that's far from ideal, considering AD and Kxx clubs would be a great combination. maybe 3C and then 4H over whatever responder does, but it's all pretty deep. no blame on the whole
  7. no lebensohl after 1NT response. lebensohl is for 1 suit x - 1 suit y - 2 suit z (reverse)
  8. nothing if partner has a doubleton diamond, he must have a significantly stronger (and more major orientated) hand than this. if he's only got a singleton diamond, the opps will be bidding on anyway.
  9. 4C. as far as i'm concerned, partner can have a weak hand with 4 hearts and 6 clubs. but this can easily make game and when it doesn't the opps will normally be making something. xx KQxx x Kxxxxx
  10. and what's with 1D (alerted as showing an opening bid)?
  11. 2 hearts, 1 spade and the king if we're not making game, the opps are probably making something
  12. i also think it's pretty clear to bid 4d
  13. east's pass is silly. he's only got 1 diamond, which is not many, even for a hand which has doubled 2D for takeout. perhaps he's used to playing against idiots who don't have 10 diamonds here, but if partner's got 3, then he'll have to have a stronger hand, making slam (below) even more likely. he can pretty much drive slam. the west hand is about as minimal as it could be. Jxxx xxx xx Aqjx is the only hand i can think of where slam is terrible. best start with 4D anyway.
  14. i hate the time limit. i think it's the worst thing BBO ever did. bridge is supposed to be a cerebral game. perhaps the OP should take up snap.
  15. well obv there's no point doing this with someone who doesn't play the same way. my way, doubler can rely on the 4th heart and bid accordingly towards 4H or even slam. your way will involve a murkier auction which will sometimes have some issues. not least among those is that there's still no way for advancer to say he's only got 3H. in isolation it's obviously better to make one's major bids more descriptive than one's minor bids. i consider the extra [half of a] level to still be worth it. as helen suggests, a lot of the time you get to bail in 2M after doubler cues 2D. fwiw, this approach has proved very successful for me, albeit from a small sample (it's a pretty rare auction, or rather it's pretty rare to have a 3343 pile of filth on this auction)
  16. 2C. if you bid the major you'll likely end up in game. partners become much less excited when you bid the minor. this stuff about not wanting to play at the 2 level when you can play at the 1 level is a total fallacy. partner isn't passing 1M.
  17. if you play WJS, rebidding the suit like this shows a constructive hand of some variety. in the european style this would show about 9-11 in which case all this hand has already been shown. of course if we were playing that style, fluffy would have told us.
  18. don't see how my hand can be any better than this
  19. any 14-15 bal? and before you say there's only 1 diamond missing, i'd bet my house that the OP doesn't particularly expect 7, even missing the akj, considering his evident style.
  20. that's far too strong for 3H, despite the colours
  21. btw i think the criticism of east is excessive. with 13 points the chances of getting 3NT under the radar are very reasonable, and whilst the undoubled penalty in 3NT would exceed the doubled penalty in 5D, that's because the hands fit very well and because west has such an atypical hand.
  22. that's an overly simplistic approach. the opps are going to be far less inconvenienced than partner. if they have a heart fit, they're very likely to find it. when you have a 3 card discrepancy between the 2 majors, there's little chance of their getting to the wrong major fit (yes they might have difficulty choosing between clubs and hearts but that's less important). partner, on the other hand, is rarely going to be investigating the spade suit on the off chance you've got AT98 so that fit's going to be lost.
