  1. just play 2nt as hearts and a minor and x as take out. 3S is minors if you ever get dealt it.
  2. i would have bid 4h over 2nt and retired from the auction. i don't have a problem with taking 2 actions on the west hand after a 3H overcall, but the 2nd action for sure should be double. 4NT is for uneven 2 suiters - 7-5 on this auction most likely. 3 suiters double or cuebid as appropriate.
  3. red spawn, there's always a period of adjustment for people who are new to the forum. they tend to have been doing well in their own pond and not have an appreciation of where they fit into the greater scheme of things. this forum has plenty of professional players and internationals on it. coming in the top 3rd of a BBO tournament for example sadly doesn't mean you're going to win the next bermuda bowl or that you're in any way close to the level of many of the posters with whom you're disagreeing so vociferously. if you adapt and can approach the forum with the right mindset you'll learn a lot.
  4. it rather depends what 2C means. as you might gather from the above, some people play that good hands with clubs must redouble first so partner's got a weak hand. where i come from, that's not so and 2C is natural and forcing.
  5. yes pass. pass doesn't show a weak hand. it just shows a hand unsuitable for other actions.
  6. you say your hand was worth a 2/1 game force, and that's the system you were playing, yet you're suggesting the bidding should end below game and in fact you passed below game. 2 spades by the robot is normal - bidding 3 clubs is a 'reverse' and shows extra values which it doesn't have. 3 spades though was wrong and should have more spades.
  7. the value of continuing the rubber is worse than -350 (50% of -700 for losing a fast rubber, 25% of -500 for losing a slow rubber and 25% +500 for winning a slow rubber, plus the opps have extra equity from being vul in terms of possibly getting dealt another slam hand). to assess the value of a save you effectively need to add that onto the penalty you concede. considering a vul grand is 1640+ though i think you've got a fat margin to work with in terms of finding a useful sacrifice.
  8. because it's on a different site with different alerting procedures to BBO
  9. 4S looks like the right bid opposite an alert and 3D bid. personally i wouldn't think of anything else, but i would be far from shocked if a poll threw up some other LAs.
  10. people here seem to be pretty confident they know what a slow insufficient (repeat) bid demonstrably suggests. i'm certainly not. i would say that anyone who makes a 5h bid over 5h is clearly so mixed up at the moment that it's impossible to know what they have.
  11. i double with minimums (less than 13 or 14ish) and bid the 5 then double with modest extras (13 or 14ish+)
  12. Where do i find you? I'll be labouring in the soul-destroying 2 day k-o bracket 3 after teamie entered us for the event which would offer him the best masterpoint return.
  13. Nevermind. Found some teamies
  14. Having been swiftly knocked out of the vanderbilt my partner and i need to find an event tomorrow. Pairs would be soul destroying. Would anyone (with a partner) be interested in playing the 2 day knockout teams?
  15. play gazilli and swedish t-walsh. then no jump rebids required.
  16. does anyone know an appropriate response and continuation structure for this? i think madala and bocchi used to play it. i know their structure over 2c 18-19 which is good but it won't work with the strong possibilities. i could handle a modest loss of accuracy on the strong hands, but don't want to just give up entirely.
  17. i would have doubled on partner's hand but i would bid on this hand too. yes your defence is minimal but your hand is good on offence. it's a little negative to give up imo - 3 hearts is not few enough to be an alarm bell. .
  18. I'd double. P is unbal. That normally means a singleton. If it's in hearts we should defend. If it's in spades he'll bid.
  19. he's thinking of running or raising. it's pretty unlikely he was thinking about raising so he was thinking about running. does that make it more tempting to bid? well that's difficult. there has to be a good chance that partner was thinking of bidding spades in which case moving rates to be pretty bad.
  20. i like using the disabled toilet too, pran. yes, they can't walk very far, but they're perfectly capable of waiting in a queue, and after all, they even bring their own chair to sit and wait in. there are too many disableds who are exploiting the system: staying at home with their legs up ('leg up' if they don't even bother to have 2) and accruing their benefits while real people go and labour away as professional bridge players and directors paying taxes which are then paid out as those same benefits.
  21. playing 2/1 or indeed any non-absurd system without special agreement, you rebid 2NT with this and partner can search for a heart fit. 2H shows an unbalanced hand with clubs and hearts (irrespective of how you play 1m-1x-1M. yes it's sensible enough to play 1D-2C-2D just shows 5+ diamonds, but it's far from standard.
  22. i would hope partner can make a spade but i'd redouble if they told me otherwise.
  23. weak distributional hands are supposed to break. 2NT = very weak both minors, 3m = very weak to play
