i'd just pass. yes you might make game, but poor partner will naively bid on with lots of good looking hands which fit badly with this hand.

north has far too much for 4s. all the blame to him. 2 extra trumps a.k.a. tricks and 2 top honours in partner's main suit. oh dear

Handling Advanced partner in Party Bridge
wank replied to Lark1959's topic in Novice and Beginner Forum
your partner was of course wrong (and shouldn't be saying anything during the bidding). though she might act like she knows more about the game, the evidence suggests otherwise. very possibly you've outgrown the rest of the group.- 1 reply

5H then sign off.

i love intermediate (13-16 if flat) jump overcalls
-
1h-2s we play as a natural invitational
-
i did do this before, but only for 1 event and it never came up, so dunno why i discarded it. edit: oh yes i do. that was before i played flannery so 2S was a 4 card raise.
-
an extra ace would make 1h less than vomit worthy.

1nt is either strong, diamonds or 2533, so a sort of gazzilli (then the positives bid 2C allowing opener to rebid 2D limited, natural, and the negatives give preference between diamonds and hearts. it works pretty well imo). if you're playing 1H-1S as 5 as in flannery with no KI, it would be a big waste to play 1h-1s-1NT as natural, i.e. 2533 so this is a perfect environment for the awm method. perhaps awm can post the link to the original thread about it. i think he calls it zirconia (a fake diamond).
-
that's a total non-question. what would you bid after 1D P 1H 4s? double shows 4+ hearts, that's all. it's not take-out. what would you suggest partner should bid with Axxxx AKxx xx Kx, 3NT and forget about the hearts because he doesn't have enough minors for a take-out double?
-
hi i've always been a fan of a lot of your thoeretical contributions and i've played this method before. now i'm playing a system the relevant parts of which are flannery, no KI and invitational jumps . considering responder's showing 5 spades, opener's not going to have 4S in a minimum hand and responder can't have 6 spades invitational this frees up a rebid after 1h-1s. i was thinking of 1H-1S-2D being 1) a total minimum with 6 hearts or 2) 3 spades with (sub gazilli) extras. 2H is then a weak pass/correct and 2S some kind of strong relay. 2NT is invitational opposite the total minimum heart hand, something like a misfitting 13. 2H would be a solid opening bid, something like a good 13-15 2S would be 3 spades with a minimum the only problem with this is that responder has to bid 2H pass or correct on hands where he'd like to bid 2S to play, i.e 6+-0 or 6+-1 in the majors. alternatives would seem to include splitting the spade raises by shape instead of min/max or reordering the heart hands. any opinions? i can't think of any pertinent effects for 1h-1s-1nt auctions but i might be wrong.

considering you're referring to a 43 year old book as if it's the cutting edge of bidding theory makes me think i should write my own.

B for 95% of the world

multiple punctuation marks is my pet hate. it's particularly annoying when the person using them is wrong on their main point. 4NT is 2 places to play. you can have spades in a slammy hand.
-
it doesn't matter. if you ruff with the 9 and partner does have the stiff king then omg they'll clash, but only if partner declines to overoverruff in 4th seat as he's out of spades now too.
-
nowhere does it say that his partner said that. all it says is that 4s would have worked out better. as for partner's double, with the right shape i think 5 spades is ok. if 5h makes though it sounds like partner is a little lacking in high cards.
-
it's amusing that you think a 54 10 count with no points in the opps' suit opposite a 4 level take out double is a 'collection of rubbish'. obviously if you're going to bid, which is debatable, you should bid 4nt to show 2 places to play. as for your redouble that was beginner level.
-
i would expect rho to falsecard from akq more than game theory suggests he should. otoh LHO would often just be pissing a crucial trick or tempo away leading a pip - he's not to know if we have 9 cashers or not (we know he doesn't have a hugely negative holding like QX or KX of diamonds).

What is partner telling you?
wank replied to Jinksy's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
pass is normally played as to play here. that doesn't look very likely looking at our heart holding. -
south can't double with this. it's hardly a shock that you convert +50 to minus whatever.
-
your partner's 6♣ was off-the-chart-bad, as, I suspect, was west's 5♦
-
you don't overcall in minors at the 2 level on weak no-trumps you don't overcall in minors on 5332 shapes with a doubleon in the opps' suit (double) anyway, now we should be delighted. our crap bidding on the previous round seems to have left us in prime position to collect a nice little penalty.
-
i am a conservative pre-emptor. i wouldn't open a weak 2 on the actual hand. still, even opposite myself i would never dream of doubling 4S.
-
you correct the revoke but there's no penalty
