And based on how well it's worked for California, be glad that you don't.

Which is the least destructive lie?
BunnyGo replied to humilities's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
If you are playing 2/1, then you have a forcing 1NT bid. You can pass his (likely) 2H rebid, but if he rebids a minor, you'll be well off. Edit: thanks to Jilly for pointing out that I again misread the auction. I'd bid 3♦. -
The Two Groups of Bridge
BunnyGo replied to Phil's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Someone with fewer than 300 masterpoints. -
I'm sorry to say Phil that you live in one of the strangest republics in the western world. I have no clue how your referendums work or their awkward legal standing. As for challenging a law passed by the legislature and signed by the governor, it is law. It can be ruled unconstitutional by the state supreme court, but there's nothing in the constitution about marriage. Even if one wanted to try and challenge this, first you'd need to prove standing in the court (prove that you personally have been harmed and have a legal right to challenge the law in court). This would probably be the first big step and would (basically) assure that any legal challenge would be thrown out quickly. For all intents and purposes, the only going back on this in NY would require the legislature to pass a second law undoing it, and the governor to sign it. Not too likely.

Simple declarer play problem
BunnyGo replied to bluecalm's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
I'll play west for 5=5=1=2. Win A of diamonds, A of hearts, ruff a heart. Club to dummy, ruff a heart. A of clubs. If West followed to all of these, the contract is nearly assured. Play spade towards King. If it wins, then I am done. I assume West wins his Ace, and instead of giving me a ruff sluff for the 11th trick, plays another spade. Win the King, and throw him in again. I have to hope West's spades are AQJT9 I guess. Otherwise East can win the third spade. Edit: awm types faster than I do. -
Should software enforce "edited by" note
BunnyGo replied to inquiry's topic in General BBO Discussion
I agree. I doubt it's possible to force edits (maybe default at least) so that edits appear in bold, but if it is I'd support that. I wouldn't mind it, even for my 30 second grammar fixes. -

If North were human I'd have said "he lost his mind", but I have no idea what GIB was thinking. Edit: This auction was duplicated (I believe) every time the human overcalled 1NT and then passed.

I was wondering if it wouldn't drop the Queen if West had played the ten and hid the three.
-
Then (I believe that) if you explained the convention correctly and it was on your card but your partner misbid, then it is an incorrect ruling. Your partner is allowed to misbid, and there is no redress for this.

-
It's unlikely this is a simulation error, since only one of ten GIBs playing this hand got the play correct, and it was helped by the lead (different auction = helpful lead). I see no reason the correct line in diamonds shouldn't be taken (at least one of the GIBs should have produced a 4-0 trump split and seen that cashing the A first is the only way to play the suit). Is there a bug? Was it confused somehow and threw out the 4-0 splits? There were a few GIBs that got lucky. They led the 9 of diamonds next and East covered--that just makes 2 incorrect plays on the same trick. The only GIB that made legitimately won the first trick (a club) in dummy and led small to the Ace of diamonds. This was a very interesting read. Not the least of which because Gov. Perry didn't pardon him or commute his death sentence to life in prison while people investigated further.
-
That too. It ended up a good board since I made the tenth trick, but seems like this is a bidding bug. It might have felt there was no good bid and so had a default pass. But that shouldn't be allowed in forcing situations.
-
How would one ask about the major? Edit: misread the auction. Mentally inserted a pass.
-
Here is the hand. Since the explanation was "rebidable spades, 14+ points" I assumed it was a forcing bid. You realize that declarer bid spades. You cannot be leading through dummy's King (with partner over it) if you think the spade bidder will have a spade honor. I'm not suggesting the spade lead is bad (I really don't know what to lead this hand), I'm suggesting you may be confused about the bidding. If you are not confused, then your posts are at least confusing me.

Do you feel you have been damaged?
BunnyGo replied to jschafer's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
So....there's a foul. Yes, there's been damage. -
I'm torn. I think that I'm worried about our club tricks disappearing on diamonds. Perhaps I'm too worried, but I lead the club A. Second choice is a trump.
-
I was going to say that I was "too slammish" but then I started thinking. I need partner to have quite a few controls for slam to have a chance. I'm off 3 aces, and the K of spades. Plus, I need a source of tricks. Partner probably has an unbalanced hand, which will be a good source, but it's not certain that we have the controls or the tricks. So I pass. If partner doesn't double with some unbalanced hand and instead bids again, then I'm happy to make a slam try.

What would you bid?
BunnyGo replied to Chainat's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
I agree that it is basic knowledge, but I think that any question is fair game in the B/I section since beginners should be given a wide range to ask questions and learn. Personally, there are things I'm unsure of and questions I ask that might be deemed "too basic for B/I", but that doesn't mean I'm not in earnest when I ask them. -
What would you bid?
BunnyGo replied to Chainat's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
I don't have 3 spades, so I can't support spades. I'm too strong to pass, so I can't pass. I'm too weak to bid 2/1 because I cannot promise a rebid (for example if it went 1S-2H-2S then I'd want to pass), so I bid 1NT. -
Whats the funniest system you have played?
BunnyGo replied to Chris2794's topic in Non-Natural System Discussion
I had a good time playing phantom club (not that it's particularly funny), but it's not GCC legal in ACBL land. I'm looking forward to trying Midnight special which was specifically designed to be GCC legal, but require as many alerts, pre-alerts, and long explanations as possible. The name derives from playing it at the ZIP KOs.
