  1. Isn't 2H limited too weak for this hand... or is it clear that we have a balanced hand (for me it isn't)...? What's the difference between 2D and 3H....?
  2. I think 4S is too much.... yes, 6 good trumps, but two doubtful doubletons and a (very likely) wasted King... I might be too high and oppos might not have anything also. Probably 3S or 3D. I like 3S better because I leave oppos one less slot to come alive again ;)
  3. +1. ... and aren't we giving the overcall too much credit.... if we could bid it with 2D... but 3D, really...? Playing an Imps game...? I know partner is a stranger, nevertheless I like him to keep a nice opinion about myself ;)
  4. Assuming I understood the bidding correctly, I would bid 4D the first time (surely this shows at least 4-4 in the Ms). If this doesn't bring partner to do anything else I believe I have done my share... even if I double 5D I don't think I will be a rich man for doing it.... assuming it goes down that is  So, 4D! - P - P
  5. 3NT. Too many losers... 3 Queens... what else :)
  6. Not sure what is this about, but assuming you are asking for the way to ensure 3 tricks knowing what we know, I would play.... 5 from hand, intending to play the 4 if W follows low, or the Queen otherwise... etc...
  7. In 3rd position, with an "entirely" defensive hand this is a Pass IMHO, even at MPs. On the other hand, from partner's point of view, being passed and now in the last seat, I can't think of any reason for not overcalling 2S.
  8. What would 6C mean...? Would be nice if 6C could be interpreted as Exclusion here.... :P
  9. What kind of partner are we talking about...? lol Is this 3C to be trusted...? If so, why give opponents more info than they need to know....? I would bid 3NT right away and let them deal with the defense. Pass is possible too... it depends on the answer to the first question.... B) but at these colours I feel we should give it a try. If partner holds nothing more than a flat hand along with Club Ace and King we can make 3NT on top tricks unless they can take 5 Hearts first, and this is highly unlikely.
  10. If this is passed out it doesn't necessarily mean you will get a bad result... and that is, I believe, the only downside of passing. Give me one more Major card and this is an opener everyday of the week :D
  11. Why complicate things...? One of my all time favorites M. Lawrence taught me we should look for Major fits and find how high we could play. If there was no M fit, we should try to find out if we can play NT, the next possible game. Maybe I am out of fashion, as some of the posts here seem to reveal, but I think 2S bids my hand in perfection. Unless I am looking for anything extraordinary I like to play this promising half stopper, so I am asking partner to bid 2N if he has one himself or to bid his hand otherwise. If it turns out to be otherwise, I am likely to give partner my support in his suit(s)... Even this being a problem, I always bid to the most likely hands partner can hold, I do not anticipate "freaks". If he turns out to hold one, we will bid to the best of our ability and hopefully we will land on our feet, but in the long run I want him to feel good about my bids... Btw, bidding 2C with that hand (and that suit) is really not my cup of tea.
  12. Unless you are playing Negative Free Bids, 2H is forcing. Having said that, although I am not forced to bid anymore I believe 3C doesn't show extras because if I was forced to bid (if oppos have passed) that would be as "weak" as repeating Diams. since partner can go back to my original suit at the same level. IMO we have two shot hand. Gratefully with this auction we can bid our hand to its full extent. If by any reason you believe this should be "stronger" then Pass.
  13. Yes, Double, as I can find myself in trouble if I find partner with 3 trumps only. Pass is no option for me either even at this colours.
  14. There are several possible ways to defeat this, one of those is partner holding the S King, others assume he holds something like Clubs KJx, or Clubs Kxx and Hearts Jxxx. A believe the best approach is to cash the S Ace and if partner doesn't encourage to exit with a Club.
  15. You should never want to be in 6♠; Keycard blackwood with no other special agreements lets you count 12 top tricks in NT with no trick one ruffs or bad splits to worry about. I am sure you realized my comment was to enphatize the bad Grand rather than anything else.... but thanks for the reminder :)
  16. I tend to trust partner's 2nd level 2nd seat O/Cs... so 3N here. The only rewason I can find behind 3H is a remote slam possibility, but then again, partner can hold hands with which 3N makes when 5D fails.
  17. I rather be in 6S here and live with the eventual poor result.... at least I save my brain from those complicated process on how to get to a bad Grand
  18. 4S strikes me as a bit dangerous... is our fit in Diams. that clear...? Can't I have 4 Hearts...? If not, why the 3H bid...? After the 3H bid, two bids are still possible, 3S (4th suit) and 4D. I like 3S better. 4D sounds like a hand that doesn't want to go further if partner can't make an attempt on his own. After 3H I don't think I need him to have that much. After 3S, if partner bids 3N (or 4C for that matter), I will clarifie where we stand with 4D, if he bids 4D, I will bid 4S.
  19. Hi everyone :) I have been around the Internet looking for Lauria-Versace's scheme of responses after 1NT opening, but wasn't able to find it. Is there anybody here who can help...? Thx in advance.
  20. 5D without a blink..... just think of what is the worse hand partner can have for his 2N vulnerable overcall....
  21. Don't be so sure... at Imps I would bit 4S directly.
  22. I will assume I am playing with my typical partners who usually make sound 2nd level overcalls. 3C
  23. I wonder if you mean 4S instead of 6S.....
  24. If you have 2NT available, this the perfect situation for using it. If don't use it here, you might as well don't play it lol I don't understand if we are vulnerable or not, but in general I will respect a sign off and bid 4S on any excuse.
