  1. [hv=d=s&v=b&n=sjxxxxhjdkq10xxcaj&s=shaq10xdajxxckq10xx]133|200|Scoring: IMP Team match[/hv] The auction went 1C......1H 2C......2D 2H......3NT All pass For the purpose of your evaluation, please take under consideration de following: - 1C = two way, either any nat. hand (can't be balanced) with 4+ clubs or any GF hand. - 1H = 4+ spades, 0+ points. - 2C = nat. - 2D = NMF (one round at least) - 2H = 4 cards, might still hold 3 spades - 3NT = to play and in case anyone want to ask, I anticipate the answers :) - 2D or 2H instead of 2C is a normal and nat. reverse. - 2D followed by a 3D rebid shows a two suiter (S/D) but not forcing. - 3D instead of 2D would be nat. and forcing. Thx in advance.
  2. You promised an Ace or a King. You already (apparently) showed what you have (4C). If you have nothing else, opener wants to settle with 4H.
  3. Are we so far of getting a plus by passing...? I am surprised with this voting results....
  4. 5C. It is preemptive enough in case they feel like looking for slam, and if they double the worst case cenario would be 800, which I don't mind to risk at all. 4C is a very shy preempt and implies that I know what to do next... (do I...?) 6C is like telling oppos to bid slam... :( and 1100 if they double doesn't look appealing at all.
  5. Interesting... With 5 losers I bid 4S because 1NT response hold, in average, 1,5 tricks (a BIG world class player told me so, so please don't ask where is that written lol). This is a 2,5 spade bid lol as one could (should?) count the Club suit as 1,5 losers.... on the other hand, looking at the scoring type and colours, 3S it is :)
  6. Yes, 4C. 4S next. Hopefully, my partner already knows where my 2 controls are, and I am pretty confident about the 5th level being (more or less) safe so I really like 4S here...
  7. If you play Diams. from hand it doesn't work unless LHO ruffs, if he never ruffs your problem doesn't go away. Anyway, and according to what was written in the initial post, I am assuming I have already cashed 3 trumps and the Diam. Ace. If this is the case, the only way to make is to find RHO with 5 Diams and 4+ Clubs. After ruffing the 3rd club in dummy, run 4th trump, if he discard a Diam. I am home, if not either my 4th club becomes good or I will end-play him in Clubs.... or something along those lines :) The Heart Ace is kept as the entry to access the good Club, if that turns out to be the case. Edit: run 4 trumps was wrong, I meant the 4th trump ofc :)
  8. Not knowing what a 3D bid would be in first round (assuming WJS) IMHO this has to be done based on suit, so I voted for the first option... with the same hand and the 4/5 points probably would have bid 3D earlier
  9. Can't read any from you either... at least I wrote it wasn't my cup of tea... whatever that means ;) Anyway, the discussion is already long enough, and in several directions, so I don't actually see a problem with my post. Okay, addressing the issue at hand... and having to make a choice between something I don't agree and something I really don't like, I go with the reverse.
  10. Okay, I have been following this thread and trying to resist it.... can't do it anymore... :P 3D is not my cup of tea, and I think there is not much left to be said about it. 2D is a reverse. I tend to be serious about my reverses. I especially like to be serious about this specific reverse (showing two minors). I think my hand is short of values for a true reverse (isn't it...?). Ofc I can just "promote" it and reverse anyway... but where did I get the motivation to promote to begin with...? From partner's 1S, the suit I have a void in...? What is so wrong about 2C...? Or opening 1D and rebidding 2C for that matter...? Okay... you can all come and get me now... ;)
  11. Well, if I may, I would suggest the following to start with: - condense the steps to three - 0-1, 2, 3+, or something like that... - reverse the steps, so you get more room for inquiries: 2D = 3+; 2H = 2; 2S = 0-1. You will have more room when you need it, and you also keep the 2NT slot free for the balanced hand.
  12. I guess I am lost.... what is the superior play after all...?
  13. I blame South entirely. Knowing his partner holds a singleton spade (or even a void), a big part of his hand is wasted in 4H.
  14. brrrr.... Two things about that auction.... 2D. Okay, I understand you might not want to jump on this suit but the rest of the hand is so good.... not one single wasted value, and even the spade suit is not THAT lousy (actually, I have seen much worse lol). 2S. This last one is a huge underbid IMO. Which hands do you bid 2NT with...?
  15. Heart King seems about right.... It is unlikely declarer might want to ruff a 3rd Heart. It is highly unlikely partner holds the Club Ace. I am not sure what is going on with the Diams., but the only thing I can do is to prevent the situation where declarer needs a side entry to enjoy them... hopefully, at the same time I am not giving away a trick (when declarer holds Qx in Hearts).
  16. I don't know about the Club trick, but playing a Heart before trying the Clubs might be suicidal. When the Diam. Jack holds, you have now 2S+3D+2C. If the Clubs break you are home if not, you will need the Heart Ace to be in with LHO anyway, otherwise making is impossible. If you find LHO with 4 clubs, then hand him the 4th, and all he can do is to cash the Diam. and exit a Heart, or just exiting a Heart, either way you are home giving away only the Heart Ace, Diam. Queen and two clubs..... or am I missing something...?

    Act?

hummm... do you think so....? Well, I am not so sure you will get those 13-14 hands more often than the hand type we are discussing....

    Act?

There is a possible natural interpretation of 2NT here: a balanced 13-14 hand with a couple cards in the opening suit. Not that unlikely. At all. Sure, you can play dbl as pen and 2NT as take out here, but you'll be out of bid with a balanced 13-14. His point is that with the hand you propose... guess what... DOUBLE!!! Sorry, maybe I express it badly... when I wrote "here" was intended as "in this position", not what I would do in this situation. If playing what I've suggested, clear 2NT for me. If not, then Double.

    Act?

Will we ever hold a "natural" hand with which we would bid 2NT here...? Hardly ever (unless you play the 2H balance as the "real thing"). And how frequent are the hands we feel we should compete with but have no clear option....? I like have the Double available as penalty here and 2NT as "a sort" of take out double for the minors.
  20. I believe I have done my share... partner suggested and I went along with the 4C cue. Now I am bidding 4S. (not to mention that partner might have a singleton heart... or can't he...?)
  21. 2NT. The last thing I want to do is to bid 3H.... I want to leave room for him support my Diams. (if that isthe case) and my partner would also hate me if we miss a possible slam just because he quit trying for it after I bid a suit in which he might have a singleton/void.
  22. I've voted for multi-landy, which the convention I use with most of the people I play with. With my regular partner, we change it a bit. If they are playing strong 1NT, we use the Double as 5m+4M. If weak, then the Double is penalty oriented. The fourth seat reverses the meaning of the double. If strong 1NT, Double is now penalty oriented, and if weak shows a 5m+4M hand.
