  1. 3N, somebody has to man up. Pass is ok, 4C is not IMO (you will just go minus a lot).
  2. 1) r/w IMPs AJxx Kxx x AKTxx P 2H ? 2) w/w IMPs xxx Kx xx QJT97x 2C-2D 2N*-? 2N = 22-24 Your methods allow you to show a slam try in clubs with 3S then 4D and you will never get to slam off 2 keycards. 3) w/r IMPs KQx QJ876 A KQ9x P 4D X 5D P P ?
  3. Looks like two people in this thread have suggested x = hearts. Why? I guess this is good when you have everything and partner is looking at equal length and nothing in both majors, but on a ton of hands partner will know which major you want or can at least guess it right (I bet he gets it right at least 50% of the time!). And it's not like your partner will automatically try to hit your suit if you don't double, he could easily have something like xxx xxx JT9x xxx and have a clear diamond lead. Also it's been stated before but the main benefit of doubling is not because you think they're going down, it's converting -600 into +200 or better. This happens very often! The downside is that your opps are unlimited and could easily be making a lot of tricks! Sometimes this will happen, but if you do the math, you really only need this to "work" around half the time, not to mention all the times it shouldn't work but your opponents misjudge (yes this is a common bridge theme, the more decisions you give your opponents the more they will get wrong, even if in theory they should get all of them right).
  4. Light em up, not close.
  5. I'd try a spade, seems better than a club.
  6. I don't know the exact hand, but this has also happened to me before.
  7. Pretty obv diamond imo. 1) Partner has an ace. 2) So a club is out. 3) Partner is not that likely to have the SA and it is unlikely to go away anyway since our red suits are good. 4) The opps are more likely to be off AQ in a suit than AK in a suit.
  8. Pass is automatic, AKJxx xx x AKxxx is a good guideline for what a minimum 3C bid looks like.
  9. I don't even like to play 4-handed for an entire regional due to exhaustion (I am naturally slow and hopefully thoughtful). For something like a week-long serious event/nationals I would always greatly prefer to play 6-handed. To me this is just an issue of being able to play your best bridge. Maybe stamina should be part of the contest but I would rather maximize the quality of bridge being played.
  10. 3C 1) This is probably not making. 2) 2S is probably making 3) They don't know that 3C is probably not making.
  11. I hate the 3N and 4C bids. That said, I wouldn't have done any better.
  12. Very clear to pass both times. Now I guess I would lead a spade.
  13. w/r MP KJxxxx xx AQxx x 2S P P 2N 3D Not really bizarre, but I thought it was worth noting.
  14. double (FWIW I think this double is re-takeout without 4 hearts even though that would violate gwnn's law.)
  15. I am a rank beginner. Would Bridge Baron be the right program for me?
  16. I would cuebid 4C as north, especially if I played 2C = clubs or balanced. I also dislike north's 4S, I would make another try. Agree with south's bidding, though I'm curious what a minimum 3S bid is. AQTxxx Kxx Qx Ax? edit: realized north's 4C is not a cuebid, but he should try again
  17. It sounds like you are playing a team who you are at least somewhat better than, and you have a moderate "lead" on them, so play the bridge that you are most comfortable playing.
