  1. True. East only has a guaranteed 8 tricks in spades as trumps.
  2. [hv=pc=n&s=s43ha63dkt93caqj6&w=s2ht4daj8652c8532&n=sjhkq852dq7ckt974&e=sakqt98765hj97d4c&d=w&v=b&b=4&a=ppp1c2d2h2s3hppp]399|300[/hv] Which is worse; the original pass or the final pass?
  3. Cause the bot will pass and they will make it.
  4. I only go down five at 3nt.
  5. 2nt lebonsohl is a transfer to clubs but says nothing about the club suit. The bot could have long ♦ or a variety of other hands.
  6. How do I tell if it is a basic or advanced bot? I was playing Bridge 4 (set of 4 deals, leaderboard).
  7. We miss our small slam in ♥ or 6♣ to defend a spade partial. [hv=pc=n&s=st84hakqtdktcq975&w=skj932h76dqj8542c&n=sh9842da9cat86432&e=saq765hj53d763ckj&d=s&v=e&b=3&a=1n2s2n3sppp]399|300[/hv] Of course I upgraded my 1nt (1♥second choice), 2♠Cappelletti spades & minor, 2nt Lebensol forces 3♣
  8. Only down two, that's my usual result.
  9. [hv=pc=n&s=sak5hakqjdckqt862&w=sqj9ht83dkqjt92c9&n=st643h9542da54ca3&e=s872h76d8763cj754&d=w&v=b&b=4&a=2dppdp2sp3dp4cp7cp7sppp&p=d3s5d2d4sas9s3s8sksqs4s2c2c9cac4c3c5ctd9ckdtd5c7cqh3h2cjc8djh4s7h7hah8h5hkhth9h6hqdqs6d6dad8c6dkstd7hj]399|300[/hv] 4♣ was a cue bid of the ace. Should I have bid 7nt over 7♠? Clearly I should have bid 4nt Blackwood and then I wouldn't have had this problem.
  10. Why doesn't the K♥, J♣, or a low trump stand out? I could understand an unusual lead if it is a problem hand, but this was a no-brainer.
  11. After the bot false carded me twice in the first four tricks I conceded the hand even though we could still have beaten the contract if North had ruffed the first discard and then switched to a heart. Typically, however, when the bot is partner it waits until the second discard before ruffing in, or saves its high trump til the end. 1) Why did it lead the 4♦ from J4? 2) Why did it false card the J♠? This can only fool partner.[hv=pc=n&s=sq2ha432da82c5432&w=sak9876h765dq3cq6&n=sjt3hkq8dj4cjt987&e=s54hjt9dkt9765cak&d=w&v=0&b=8&a=1sp1np2sp4sppp&p=d4d5dad3d8dqdjdks5s2sas3sksjs4]399|300[/hv]
  12. Well, I bid 6♥ with no other consideration. But isn't the problem with Ogustus that it allows low level intervention? I think the entire premise of this problem is that the opponents have a huge fit and can make 10-12 tricks, so we must blast as a two-way bid; Keeping the opponents out of the bidding with a chance to make the contract.
  13. Tell me about it. I held Qx,--, AQJxx, QJ98xx and bid 2nt over openers 1S. LHO competed with 3S, pass, pass, to me. So obviously I am supposed to pass, but I like to root around so I bid 4C. Pass, and now partner comes to life and bids 6D on x-- Kxxx--K,10,9,8--Jxx. I was too disgusted to check and see what my 4C bid meant, but obviously GIB thinks I'm showing at least 25+ points and distribution.
  14. The club Ace has to be off or else LHO has passed with AK,A, and a void,
  15. Not to mention that you will make the contract when trumps split or the opponents misdefend.
  16. Thanks for the tip, I didn't realize that I had rotated the hands. I should clarify that when you play four rounds of trumps you cannot play them from the top or the dummy is squeezed. After A diamonds reveals the bad split lead the 10 diamonds pitching a club from dummy. A spade or trump back now produces the six card ending, while a heart return is down two (except when declarer is 0-2-8-3 which produces the same winning ending).
  17. I would always open 5♦ and then play it like the Hog. Trump the high spade lead and then play four rounds of diamonds. East can beat you by returning a ♥ but that is very unlikely. Trump the spade return and play off all your trumps save one. In the six card ending: [hv=pc=n&s=sh2d4c9864&w=sahj976dcj&n=sq9hakq8dc&e=sjht5dcaqt]399|300[/hv] On my last trump West is squeezed out of his club as I pitch dummy's losing heart. I then cross to the A♥ and throw West in with the 9♠. West is now forced to play a ♥ to the good dummy, so I lose no ♣ trick and make my contract.
  18. Gib likes to keep it's high trump until the last card is played. Maybe it just changed it's mind halfway through the hand.
  19. The only reason to duck was if it was imperative to get partner in the lead. Here it is beyond senseless.
  20. I win the Q spades lead, pull trump, cash my other high spade, and then lead the 2 Clubs to the 9 which wins! Why did the idiot bot duck his AKQ? http://oi66.tinypic.com/2euhiz7.jpg
  21. Isn't it programmed to return the higher of touching cards? After the 10H opening lead I took the Ace and returned the QD to the K, A. The bot then returned the 9D from 10,9,4,2. When I won the JD the declarer should have started with K,10,8 instead of K,8 doubleton. what gives? http://oi67.tinypic.com/zkn49f.jpg
  22. This looks like an interesting play problem in 6nt on a low club lead to the King. It doesn't seem right to play for both club honors to be onside, so duck trick one and win the club continuation with the Ace. Let's assume that neither spades nor diamonds split. If we try diamonds first then there is no possible squeeze against an opponent holding guards in both majors, so after unblocking spades and cashing one round of diamonds we must try the heart suit. When that suit behaves we now have a chance. On the fourth round of hearts pitch a diamond catering to an automatic spade/diamond squeeze on West or a club/diamond squeeze on East when the ace of spades is cashed. If West has the club/diamond guard and East the spades then you are going down no matter what, while if East has spades and club guards we went wrong at trick one.
  23. The bot did keep you out of the unmakeable heart slam.
  24. I think the bot had second thoughts about opening that 3 club preempt with a one bid and then decided to pass a forcing bid to keep out of trouble.
  25. Well, in my defense I thought that I'd be about 75% with a double finesse in trumps as the bidding showed a double fit and I'm prime.
