  1. The software mentioned can be downloaded from Acbl website (click free lesson software and fill a form) : http://www.acbl.org/ Another good website covering basics is Richard Pavlicek's website: http://www.rpbridge.net/bbtc.htm .
  2. That's not hard either. But what I also wonder if there are hands that don't have a par score. Your example of every side making 1NT is interesting, especially if everyone is vulnerable. Then what's the par score if every 2-level contract is defeated? Does such hand exist? see the first deal in http://www.rpbridge.net/8k03.htm for an example for everyside making 1nt, but none of the 2level contracts make. As long as the dealer is fixed, there is always a par score.
  3. I like the handviewer especially when I use a computer without a windows bbo client installed. I have one suggestion, is it possible to put an option to remove played cards (instead of changing their color to light gray) because the played cards distract me when analyzing end positions. Thanks.
  4. Check out the gib's convention card: http://online.bridgebase.com/doc/gib_system_notes.php Then click followups for 1nt it is supposed to be "Smolen (forcing to game with 4 of the suit bid and 5 of the other major) "
  5. buyuk ihtimal ortagin eliyle elimiz uyusmuyor, biraz konservatif konusmak gerektigini dusunuyorum.
Burak

  9. Yes it is possible. As far as I know when a user is banned, all the computers he used to play at BBO are also banned. Here is my experience: I had introduced BBO to my father (who had taught me to play bridge) when I visited my country during winter break. I installed the program in his computer, and got a username for him etc, and he also played using my laptop once or twice. Later I flew back overseas and he hasn't played at BBO using my laptop for more than 10 months. however whenever he gets banned from Main Bridge club (because he's booting too many players thinking he's still at yahoobridge), I'm also banned from MBC when I try to login from my laptop, but I'm not banned if I use my desktop. I had contacted BBO support about this inconvenience and they had told me they can't do anything about it and suggested me to use my desktop computer during ban period if I want to play in MBC.
  10. There once was a player from Beirut Who thought he would try to be cute. .. He overcalled a spade .. And died as he played. The postmortem: a four-card suit. From Richard Pavlicek's site :)

    WMSG finals

WMSG was a successful event for Turkish players, too. Our women team reached semifinals, I think this was the first time our national team reached a semifinal in world championships. Our open team qualified from round robin stage, but couldn't beat Norway in the round of 16. Finally in the youth category, Melih Sen- Mehmet Sakirler won the world junior pairs. Congratulations! edit: in the last day of the event, Salih Murat Anter won the ‘A’ section to take the World Junior Individual Championship and Gold medal. Congratulations to him, too!
  12. [hv=d=n&v=n&s=sqt965hak87dt94c8]133|100|Scoring: IMP 1♣ - pass - 1♠ - pass 2♣ - pass - ??[/hv]
  13. according to our simple bidding agreements: 2C - 2D - 5NT* - 7NT* *31-32 balanced *grand slam try
  14. As Marty Bergen mentions in his book, Bond would be called .007 if east took out the double :P
  15. [hv=n=sajt8hd84c&w=sk62hdcqt4&e=s43hd9c872&s=sq75hdcj96]399|300|Scoring: IMP[/hv] I was declarer as south, hearts were trumps, contract was doubled, needed to take 4 tricks in this position. I accidentally led a small spade from my hand to dummy's jack. Next trick, I pulled ace of spades and west, who is sure that I don't have the queen spades, unblocked his K. thank you :)

    Illusion

Instead of simply red green blue channels, human visual perception is better represented the following three components: luminance, blue-yellow, red-green channels. It is called opponent color model. http://en.wikipedia.or/wiki/Opponent_process . The example Helene gave about the color of tomato is rather related to color constancy : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_constancy
  17. Can you elaborate this? I can't see how RC applies when QJT is missing and each opp had at least one of them. Thanks.
  18. Yes EricK's answer was the one I was hoping one would find. Congrats! I know the question is a bit illposed. by an average high school student, I meant there's no need for fancy math signs/functions. Sorry if it confused some people here, I wish could have explained more clearly.
  19. I think there are many solution if you include trig functions etc .. also something like : (cardinality(powerset({1}))+1)! :) the solution I was thinking contains only math signs (no trig functions). also let's say an average high school student should be able to evaluate the expression :)
  20. I had put this problem on my website and after a few months, somebody sent me an email saying "i even wrote a C program to try to solve this, I'm sure there is no solution, your question is wrong !?!??!?" :) another similar but less difficult problem is to reach 100 using 1, 7, 7, 7, 7. A difficult problem is to reach 6 using two 1's. But in this problem, you can use any mathematical signs additional to operations, like factorial sign, or square root etc (needs a bit creativity)
  21. If the opening is limited 4S is a perfectly normal bid at imps. im repeating myself but red at imps it doesnt pay to stop at 3M. Looking at the other boards they played, neither looks like playing strong club. In another board, they both opened 1S with KJxxxx, AQx AK xx. They play 1C 3C preemptive (inv minors). I believe their system is most likely to be somewhere close to 2/1 (hence the forum location) .
  22. Well, there's an 'other' option in the poll. And I'm playing 2/1. B) Thus I voted 'other' and explained why. WTF? No need to wtf Harald :D. It is clear from the poll options that kgr wants to know what you would bid giving the methods he was playing and your 2S bid is not part of it. where do you get that from :) Hmm, seems I confused you with bb79. My apologies or congratulations depending on the skill levels of both of you. It's highly likely that you'll need to send apologies to kgr :) Burak
  23. I forgot to include that pard would bid 2♠ to your 1NT response. Thanks for all the responses. This was from Cayne vs Stars match I was kibitzing, and both Souths bid 4♠ directly (hence the title "fast or slow"). [3 boards to go, score is 66-63]. Actually EW had double minor fit with 5♣ and 5♦ (and 6♦) makeable. Indeed Jimmy Cayne (East) balanced with 4NT and Versace made 5♣ (other table 4♠ -1). Comments? Here is the full hand: [hv=d=n&v=b&n=sajt8732hj3dkqc92&w=sk64h8daj954cat73&e=shat65dt8732ckj64&s=sq95hkq9742d6cq85]399|300|Scoring: IMP[/hv]
  24. [hv=d=n&v=a&s=sq95hkq9xxxdxcqxx]133|100|Scoring: IMPS Dealer pard opens 1♠ and RHO passes[/hv]
