Vugraph operator had reported that Greco was trying to introduce a run to 7nt and Hampson was leading a spade without double.
-
When Melih Ozdil bid 7 and then redoubled, a vugraph commentator said "Melih goes all in!". Indeed this deal probably won the match for his team.

game forcing.

For starters, I suggest the articles in the "competitive auctions" section at http://www.bridgeclasses.com/notes/.

There is a little bug in the bidding table. Here is the situation I encountered. Other players are robots. Normally you can press undo and take back your previous bids. Say, you bid 5 rounds and want to change your very first bid. If you click undo multiple times repeatedly to get back to your first bid (impatiently, e.g. 4 clicks in a second), the bidding choices in the bottom right corner disappears and you can't bid anymore with the current deal, you need to redeal... If you wait for the confirmation "undo accepted" after each undo click, there isn't a problem. Burak

instructive hand from today's vugraph
bb79 replied to bb79's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
This was from uswbc venice cup trials, Third hand in the 2nd section of Finals&Playoffs. The technique is called "loser on loser", I believe. -
[hv=n=sakj6hak54dq86ca8&s=st98742hqdt7ct974]133|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv] South is playing 4♠ after west showed weak hand with hearts. Lead is a ♦, east wins J. At trick two east plays ♦A, west discards a ♥. Third trick east plays ♦K. What do you play from your hand? 3 of 4 declarers on vugraph erred here.

How do you play the meanings of advancer bids after opps' weak 2 opening and 2NT overcall by partner? i.e. (2♥)-2NT-(p)-? 3♣ - stayman? 3♦ - ? 3♥ - transfer? 3♠ -? 4♣ - gerber? 4♦ ? 4♥ - texas? 4♠ -?? Thanks, Burak

[hv=n=sj98hj96dc&w=sh82dtc976&e=sathtdcq54&s=shq75dckt3]399|300|♥ are trumps. South is declarer. In this position west leads ♥2. [/hv] This is for fun and DD exercise from Bulgaria vugraph. Commentators and spectators were having hard time to figure out how South could take all the remaining tricks to make the contract after West led ♥2. Also note that ♦ lead would give the defenders another trick. Burak

Probably this is not the easiest solution, but here is an example you might find useful. Press windows+r (run) and type "cmd" to start the command line prompt and type findstr /m /I "jec" "C:\Bridge Base Online\hands\bb79\*.lin" (replace bb79 with your username) this searches the lin files in your hands folder and lists the stored files of the team matches that "jec" (Jimmy Cayne) played /I option make this search case insensitive Burak

probably the real winner is Mahaffey, who bought 1st, 2nd and 8th pair in the auction :(

When you start a new table for partnership bidding table, in the window that pops up, there should be a button named "opponent's bidding". After you click it, select GIB. Does this work? Alternatively, you can use the web version of BBO (from www.bridgebase.com) and start a new bidding table, after you sit, click the robot in E/W seats. Adding GIb robots are easier there, and currently you don't have to rent GIB to use them.

Some basic questions : When the auction starts with 1D-(2C)- ---X promises both majors or one of the majors? [we don't use negative free bids] ---if it goes on 1D-(2C)-X-(p)-?, what do you bid with 4-2-6-1 shape and 17hcp? would 2s be NF? is 3D forcing? Thanks,
-
splinter is more slam oriented than 4♣.

[hv=d=s&v=n&s=skq83h75d5caqt963]133|100|Scoring: IMP 1♣-p-1♠-p ??[/hv] Your call? you have 4♣ available to show fit and 6-4 hand, and 4♦ splinter.

Hi , my knowledge about flash is not much, but I saw a website of a photo editing application (http://www.sumo.fi) made by flash, and there you can upload an image from your computer and save the edited photo to your computer. How do they do that, and why can't something similar be done for BBO?

I was trying partnership bidding. My partner and opps are robots. West is dealer. I am south holding void-KJ7-AK643-A9753. the bidding is pass- 1D- (3S ) - 4S -(X)- pass - (pass) - XX - all pass. Rdbl is alerted as 16+ points and forcing, but p passed :) Partner has A-AQ53-T9872-QT2.

Enjoyed kibbing that set and several others. Thanks Nick! There was another cute quote from that set after Grue baby-psyched a 1S response after 1H-(X). There was discussion among the commentators about whether the Indians would field the psyche (yes, it took half a round of bidding to do so) and one commentator, a Canadian whose name escapes me said: "Gupta was using that routine before Grue was even born." I mentioned this to Subby Gupta at the Victory Dinner later that night and he broke up. nickf sydney The commentator was Martin Johnson (fabsayc). The vugraph commentary was really enjoyable!

making grand slam without the ace of trumps
bb79 replied to bb79's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Thank you for the book suggestion, I can't order now but I added to my list in amazon to buy later. -
Two years ago, I had read a funny article/story about a deal where a declarer made a grand slam without the ace of trumps because the poor defender holding ace of trumps had realized he had been given 14 cards too late and he couldn't overruff while declarer got the first 13 tricks via crossruff. Can anyone provide a link or post the full article? Thanks, Burak.

if i were north, I would bid 2♥ instead of 1nt.

GIB is supernatural and can make 12 overtricks! no photoshop here :P http://i715.photobucket.com/albums/ww160/brkbtls/12overtricks.jpg

[hv=d=n&n=sht8542d98642ck83&s=sat82haqdj53caq95]133|200|pass-(1♠)-1NT-(X) 2C*-(pass)-pass-(pass) [/hv] I overcalled 1NT, gib alerts 2C as 2 suited 4+clubs Seemed a little weird to me, although it made 2C :) I also encountered a similar situation: (1C)-1NT-(X)-2D*-p-p-X-ppp *2D 2 suited 4+D I was 4234 16 count, gib had 5242, not sure what to do, thought second suit was hearts, i had -800 that time, maybe my bad.

Hi, I like the web client, it is especially useful for me when I work on linux machines. I'm not sure if these are suggested but I have two features I would like to see in the web client. First is, an option to make south the declarer, I think it is really useful in both kibitzing and playing, and I am used to that from windows client . Second is, in team matches, the display of the result of the other table in the left bottom corner (if available). I think it is implemented in vugraph presentations but it seems missing in team matches. Thanks, Burak.
