  1. 68% probability comes from the constraint that two hands have 13 cards each. Once you give 3 cards to one side you can give 10 of the remaining 21 cards to that side.
  2. There is a group with 3000 members, unofficial I think. http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/group.ph...15793841&ref=ts
  3. I think Han's method seems easier especially rationals close to 1... even if (a-c)/(b-d) and c/d hard to compare, you can iterate the process.
  4. game swings matter a lot especially in short tourneys with lot of attendance. I checked a few acbl 12 board imp pairs, usually the imp difference from first to last is about 90 imps.. so if there are 90 pairs, 10 imp difference roughly changes your position by about 10 places on average... you may still get into top 10 if your first two board are awful .. just collect the gifts in the next boards.
  5. I actually like the new display of online players.
  6. See http://tinyurl.com/yfnandh Double then 5♣ alerted as 5 clubs exactly. Therefore gib partner pulls it to other strains. I am not sure if this is a bug but most of the duplicate players must have got crazy because they played 6nt or 7nt doubled after 6♣ rebids  I was cautious and just bid 5♣.
  7. You can click on the bid to see the explanation of the bid. Maybe you should also check to system notes to know your partner better: http://online.bridgebase.com/doc/gib_system_notes.php
  8. I think 4nt is not defined in GIB's CC. Maybe it assumes it is to play? I tried a few times at web client, I was the dealer and opened 4nt no matter what, gib most of time passes, even with 3 aces. one time it responded and alerted 5h with 5+H 17+ points overcall!
  9. #6 is from 1927 Solvay conference, there are many famous physicists there. I am interested in the story behind #31.
  10. is this always true? so I can always claim 13 tricks at trick 1 as declarer and gib will accept? I doubt it, I can't check now since I don't have a robot rental at the moment. I thought Gib could at least check DD if declarer can win all the tricks in any way. If claiming can be abused, why isn't it removed at all? As far as I remember 'undo' is not allowed because it could be unfair to other duplicate players. Don't you think this claim feature is unfair to others? sorry if this was discussed before, probably I used wrong keywords in the search.
  11. I realized a pair was consistently getting top scores in mp pairs in main bridge club against robots, when I looked at their hand records I saw that they sometimes claim incorrect amount of tricks, which gib accepts. Doesn't gib check the claims? Hand 1 Hand 2 Hand 3 (I removed player nicknames)

  13. Have you tried this? Let's say you have two accounts: login1 and login2 Log on to BBO with login1 (the one you purchased GIB robots). Start a teaching table with login1. Login1 acts as a teacher and spectator. Reserve a seat for login2. Reserve the other 3 seats for robots. Go to www.bridgebase.com and log on with the account login2. login2 should be directed to the teaching table. Login1 loads the saved deal, sends it to the table. Login2 and robots can bid&play the hand (and login2 doesn't see the other hands). If you're not worried about seeing full hand during play, you just need one account. You can load the saved deal to a teaching table and bid&play. You should be able to undo or redeal any time you want.
  14. playing 2-way checkback(xyz), with what kind of hands do you (or should we agree on to) bid 2♠ in these situations? a] 1♦-p-1♥-p-1NT-p-2♣*-p-2♦-p-2♠ b] 1♦-p-1♥-p-1NT-p-2♦**-p-2♠ c] 1♦-p-1♥-p-1NT-p-2♠ *forces 2♦ **GF how do you bid with ATxxx - KQJxxx - x - J ?
  15. I read the bulletin and I don't agree with OP either. It was a fun read. J. Lall was admired for his defense for two boards at least. Maybe you're stuck at "Is God Italian or is he American?" remark.
  16. Changing browser type didn't help. But I solved the problem by quitting Firefox first and then clicking a link. Before, firefox was always already open. Now I can open the links whether Firefox is already running or not, so it's fixed by itself somehow! Thanks all!
  17. as far as I know, BIL is no longer free (maybe there's free trial period), but membership is not very expensive.
  18. Seems like commentary can still mix up. See the closed room commentary for the 1st World Youth Congress Final Seg_2 for example. I also like the archive, looks very neat. One suggestion is instead of two step navigation for next&previous board & other table, I would prefer buttons for each (like in windows lin viewer).
  19. I have Firefox 3.5.2 installed and I prefer it to be my default browser. When I use the BBO's windows client, I can't open the links provided in the chat area or any link in the other sections of the client (e.g store). Basically you click on the link, but it does nothing. If I make IE 8.0 default browser, I can open the links, there is no problem. I'm wondering if anyone has also this problem or can recommend a solution. I recall that I didn't have this problem with Firefox's previous versions.
  20. Maybe You may get faster response if you write to the addresses in the http://www.worldbridge.org/tourn/Istanbul....commodation.htm As an unofficial help, I looked at yeditepe university's website, you may print out the page and the first two maps (enlarge) and provide them to the driver. Yeditepe University contact page unfortunately i don't have any info about current taxi prices, I have been away from turkey for some years. it's an hour ride at least maybe more if you're stuck at rush hour traffic.
  21. Are you using the web client when you run locally? I think web client also uses outside servers when you play with gibs in the main bridge club but the play speed setting is set so fast that you can easily play more than 100 boards per hour and you will have a score advantage over the field (app 1 imp per board on average) that uses their own computers because robots make more mistakes.
  22. When you play a robot tourney, GIb analysis and simulation is done in an outside server, but when you are at a main bridge club table, it uses your computer's CPU (in the windows client). If your computer is slower than BBO's servers, you will never achieve the same performance. BBO may set the marks for the reasonable play level though, but the play time will depend on the user's computer for the same level of play.
  23. Your first concern is already being discussed in other threads, for example http://forums.bridgebase.com/index.php?showtopic=32654 For the second one, it is not easy to differentiate it from a friendly set-game when the players just gave a 5 minute break.
  24. I double. pass is too pessimistic. partner is probably 5035.
  25. It will be pretty tough for England to finish second given that they did not qualify. Furthermore, it should also be noted that China has withdrawn from the seniors'. Roland Thanks, I didnt notice, I was expecting a rematch after last year's wmsg final.
