I will bid 2♦ which looks normal. The hand looks slightly better for 2♠ rebid. By the way why is 2♦ terrible ? It will only backfire if pd cant make a 2nd bid and he is short in ♦ since you both might fare well in 2 ♠. My 2♦ promises 11-16 and my partner will bid again with 9 hcp so there is no question of missing any game since he will use a relay bid to find about more about my hand.

Just out of curiousity is 7♣ cold?
-
Donn i did bid 4nt :) and after 5♠ (RKC)landed in 6♣ which was -1 because he had 2 small ♥. Is expecting him to hold a singleton ♥ a good probability?
-
I play it as shape. Opener can always go on with more in subsequent bidding.
-
Over 2nt good-bad we play following: Any bid up to 3 of openers suit is non forcing. Anything else is natural GF with cue of opps suit asking for stopper. so my 3♥ was asking for ♥ stopper whuich he denied by bidding 4♣.

Thnk it would take it as strong hand and bid 3nt

GF or limit raise?
Yogeshdg replied to CSGibson's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
That looks like GF raise. -
On the 1st hand i would drop in 3clubs. 2nd hand i will bid 2h . rest all hands i have no option but 1nt.
-
ok so you bid a late 4sf
Yogeshdg replied to gwnn's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
You can either open 1nt (playing strong nt) or after 1h please bid 2spades. 1spade is a gross underbid. -
just another lead problem
Yogeshdg replied to gwnn's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
I lead a club. Anything else is too risky since you cant expect your pd to have much. -
This hand should be opened 2 clubs in my opinion. Then you will easily find 5clubs.

I think any sensible partnership should be in 6♦ not 6♣. All responder needs to do after 1♣-1♦-3♣ (2♣ is indeed wimpy)is to show a single suiter ♦ and once partner supports Bobs your uncle. 3♦ in what i would bid with my regular partner after 3♣ and there is no stopping us from reaching 6♦. There is no point in guessing what each bid means. Agre on something, document it and play it.

If not vul i bid 3♠ else 2♠
-
3♥ shows singleton for me. I would have bid 3♠!
-
Thats why i dont play Sayc. 4nt maybe and then depending on Keycards bid 5,6 or 7. . But to answer this question you need to know what 3♠ means.
-
Play forcing 2♣ convention. Bid 2♣.Pd will clarify his opening and u sign off in 4♠ if he shows minimum or go on if he shows max. i am sure noone knows how to bid this in standard.

How do you cope with defeat?
Yogeshdg replied to Hanoi5's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
You drink a bottle of wine,go to bed and wake up the next morning for a fresh start. -
1) Yes i agree with 1♣ 2) yes you bid 3♥ provided you and your pd have agreed that x of 1♠ shows 4+♥ eeven if you downgrade Queen ♠ you upgrade coz u hv singleton so its the same thing.

I dont play standard but i am curious as to wat rebid of 2minor shows. Is it 11-14 or 11-16? The reason i ask is i have seen many players rebid 2 minor with 15 or 16hcp and their pd with 8-9 hcp passes and they miss a cold 3nt! Some seem to jump to 3minor with 15-16 which is NF but at least pd with 8+knows to bid 3nt .What does standard say?

Why is drury hated by many?
Yogeshdg replied to easy's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Drury is cool especially 2 way drury. It allows you to open 4 card majors in balancing seat with 8+ HCP. -
Obviously has points but not good stopper(s) in ♣

Passed hand in competition
Yogeshdg replied to jchiu's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Dont bother wasting time and effort with x or any other bid. If you and your partner have agreed to play short club bid 5♦. If you dont know your pd x. -
what should be the meaning of 4[_CL]?
Yogeshdg replied to guggie's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Instead of debating what should be 4♣ agree on the bid and its meaning with your partner to avoid confusion(also agree on 4♦ while you are at it). By the way it shld be natural bid showing 6♥ 5♣ and minimum hand.
