This is why you dont x carol and overcall 2♥
-
Was the pass over 2♦ forcing showing ♦s? Haha. I see no other reason to pass over 2♦.You dont even have to bid 3♦ directly. You can even x 2♦ to show ♦s.
-
Is this XYZ? XYZ is a bid of 2♣ rebid by responder after opener rebids one of suit not 1NT. This 2♥ has to be to play. You can play the two way checkback over 1nt rebid by opener but i dont think that is part of XYZ(but i could be wrong).

To Stayman or Not...
Yogeshdg replied to rogerclee's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Garbage stayman players will never stayman so we can exclude them from our discussion. Those who dont know/play garbage stayman it is better to pass 1nt. This is nice hand for nt.If you still arent convinced GL playing in a 4-2 ♦ fit at the worst. -
If opps overcalls are natural I play x of minor as stayman . If overcalled suit is major play lebenshol.

How do you 'support'?
Yogeshdg replied to Hanoi5's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Lol, this eurothing is great when travelling, less good twhen they pay prices in dollars :). I would normally also go for the blood. 3NT is another option. 2NT/3♥ is the normal bid, 2♠ is a big underbid IMO after the overcall. 1♠ can be light opening (3rd/4th seat). So why is 2♠ an underbid. 4333 shape and 10hcp and not knowing if pd opened light or sound--Who wants to bid anything other than 2♠ now? Pass is another good option and probably better than 2♠ since you dont even know if he opened with 4 or 5♠. I am sure 2way drury guys know what i am talking about. -
Agree. If you start with showing ♦support you can be in 5♦.Even if you bid 1♠ just raise ♦.The only problem is this might land u in 3nt.
-
Bidding is definitely nuts. If you bid 4♥ and it turns out to be good save I suggest heading for the casino.

TM Withdrawals--2 person limit?
Yogeshdg replied to microcap's topic in Suggestions for the Software
I think this closing of TMS after two people withdraw should be scrapped. It just leads to bitterness amongst players. -
I have been playing ambra for 2 years and never had any problems with a 5♥ 4♠ hand. Your agreements should be as follows: 2♣ rebid promsies 2+ cards and 2♦ promises 3+ cards. Just bear this in mind when signing off in a minor (prefer 6 cards or good 5 ) To clarify You rebid 2♣ with 4522 shape and 2♦ with 4531 shape.

No. If partner signs off respect his decision and pass. You dont have more than what you promised.

What is this double?
Yogeshdg replied to firmit's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
X should be t/o in some minor. -
Naah, not at these colors. I might open 5♣ at favorable. Open 5♣? What should your pd respond with [hv=s=sakxxxhqxdxxxxcjx]133|100|[/hv].
-
Sorry Hog. I am half asleep. yes 2♥ as a conventional bid. But as someone mentioned some bid 2♥ in 2/1 and then raise ♦ and responder should get an "idea" of whats happening.
-
Sorry whether i respond 2♣ or a forcing 1nt me and my pd will always reach 3nt. Well done if you reach 4♠ AND make it
-
Exactly. 2♠ and 2♦ both are acceptable to me. But i dont think any game will be missed by bidding 2♦.

Or 2M in a 4-3 or is that not allowed in Lancastershiresomewhere? I totally agree. Why would anyone x 2♦ as takeout when you know your pd doesnt have a major and the only possible consequence of xing is to play in ♣???? (your partner can bid NT or x for penalties and doesnt need your x to make either of those bids). The only reason to x should be to show a strong hand and ask pd to pass for penalties since he cant be expected to x for penalties by himself if you simply pass 2♦.

All this system talk...
Yogeshdg replied to matmat's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
No, this is wrong for pairs - you often see first-time partnerships win at pairs - if you have 300 pages of "prepared" notes for a pairs event, you are over-prepared, or, put another way, you are preparing for the wrong success factors. Oh sorry i was talking of teams. Yes pairs is completely different. -

I think it comes down to preparation and concentration. The pair that has prepared more will do better. Preparation includes everything from bidding to carding agreements. Luck factor cannot be ignored in any field. Sometimes you overbid and still make because of the layout. or you bid a "sure" game or slam and get a bad split. -
I will bid 2♦ which looks normal. The hand looks slightly better for 2♠ rebid. By the way why is 2♦ terrible ? It will only backfire if pd cant make a 2nd bid and he is short in ♦ since you both might fare well in 2 ♠. My 2♦ promises 11-16 and my partner will bid again with 9 hcp so there is no question of missing any game since he will use a relay bid to find about more about my hand. xxxxxx x xxx xxx where are the hcp? why is game so good? what is he responding 1♠ for?
-
X what else
-
2♥ first and if pd shows game interest try for slam in diamonds or NT . If he simply bids 3♣ or repeats ♦ just bid 3♠ asking for ♠stopper. If he bids 3nt pass. If he bids 4♦ denying ♠ stopper bid 5♦ and end it.

I had a similiar hand on BBO except pd opened 1♠ and i had 6+♥ with singleton ♠ and i xed. Declarer went -3.
