  1. What did you have in mind? Pretty sure I was thinking ruff a spade, cash a trump, and exit with a high club. hope east only had 1 trump, and was forced to give either give us a club ruff, club discard, or lead away from Q♦
  2. I must be missing something easy. The only layout I can see making involves a very specific hand with east.
  3. [hv=d=s&n=sa876haxxdc&s=skj942hxxxdc]133|200|1♠ 2♥ 2♠ all pass Heart lead, won in dummy. A♠ cashed, both follow low. Low ♠ gets the T♠ from RHO.[/hv] Correct play is the J♠? [hv=d=s&n=sa876haxxdc&s=skj942hxxxdc]133|200|1♠ 2♥ 2♠ all pass Heart lead, won in dummy. A♠ cashed, both follow low. Low ♠ gets the T♠ from RHO.[/hv] Correct line to cash the AK♠?
  4. Cool thread, thanks for sharing. Always nice to learn something. :)
  5. Ahhhhh....... I understand. Here's the problem I had last night that got me thinking about this: [hv=d=n&v=e&s=sat932h6da643cak3]133|100|Scoring: MP 1♦ P 1♠ 2♥ 2♠ P ?[/hv] I really like my hand, and would like to bid something stronger than 4♠. I couldn't figure out the best way to make my intentions clear (because I couldn't figure out what the above sequences meant). I suppose I could have just asked "how should I bid next", but I'd like to understand all the possible auctions for when this next comes up.
  6. So then 1♥ 1♠ 2♠ 3♣ 3♠ 4♣ 3♣ was HSGT, and 4♣ was control? Or are they now both control bids, showing first and second? 1♥ 1♠ 2♠ 3♣ 3♠ 4♦ Has partner shown a club control? A diamond control?
  7. Playing HSGTs... 1♥ 1♠ 2♠ 3♦ 3♦ is HSGT, right? Ok now. 1♥ 1♠ 2♠ 3♦ 3♠ 4♠ 3♦ was clearly some sort of slam try, right? But was it a second suit, or do I now reinterpret it as control showing?
  8. Possible to resurrect this over the holidays??
  9. I cheated and read jlall's post, because I didn't know who to pick for #4. 1. dkgrab 2. uday 3. fred 4. ritong 5. reisig
  10. I have been completely talked around to this line of thinking. Low ♦ for me. Maybe I've read too much Mike Lawrence, but A♥ may lead partner astray down the road.
  11. Would only be for 4 (you've lost 2♠, 1♦ already), but yes. After the hand, declarer announced that he should have made it. I didn't think so at the time, but as it turns out, he was right.
  12. [hv=d=w&v=n&n=shjdj98ckqjt&s=sjhat96dac97]133|200|Scoring: MP You and partner read 4♥, after east overcalled 1♠ LHO led the 6♠ to east's ace, and threw the 4♠ under the K. A small ♠ was ruffed by west, and overruffed in dummy. You lost the diamond finesse, then west exited a small heart: 6♠ T♠ A♠ 3♠ K♠ 7♠ 4♠ 2♠ 5♠ Q♠ 3♥ K♥ 4♦ 3♦ Q♦ K♦ 4♥ Q♥ 5♥ 2♥[/hv]
  13. I guess the reason that I asked is that, at matchpoints, I wondered if 2♠ would ever be right. I bid 3♦ at the table, but in the post mortem I started to wonder if a spade partial was the right place to be, at MPs.
  14. [hv=d=s&v=n&s=s54ha64daqt643cj4]133|100|Scoring: MP 1♦ 1♠ 2♦ 2♥ ?[/hv]
  15. My first thought was to double, rather than bid 3♥, but I don't have a huge problem with the auction as it stands. If your diamond spots were better, slam would probably be reasonable. Certainly, game in diamonds should be a strong favourite. V
  16. My intermediate thoughts: 1. 5♦. It's IMPs, and partner has at least 2 diamonds. Seems like the right place to play. Partner will raise when it's right, I hope! 2. 3♥. Seems like both sides have a double fit, though if partner bids clubs I can still correct to diamonds. 3. Well, assuming it's imps/rubber, we were always going to play south for the K♠ anyways, so ♦, ruff ♦ low, run the J♠. Either I get 2 club discards, or I go for a number.
  17. Having partnership on the same page is key. Some like the post-game analysis, some don't. My partner and I always exchange emails the next day. billw55 - a great many players seem overly enamoured with bidding theory. It's just how it goes. :)
  18. This is the kind of hand I hate/struggle with the most. Ok, club to the ten first. Win the presumed diamond return, run the proper club finesse. Hopefully, with 2 clubs and 3 diamonds played, west has been run out of minor suit cards, and he'll have to help me out in either spades or hearts. AQ of spades. If east followed on both, I'll play him for 2155. KS, concede a spade. I *think* that if west was 4432, I'll pick up 2 hearts in the endplay.
  19. Thanks. Maybe I'll do better when I stop thinking that GiB knows something that I don't. Then again, 3♥+4 was >50% of the matchpoints....
  20. 1♦ X P 3♣ 3♦ 3♥ P ? Was 3♥ forcing or not?
  21. I was north. I almost bid 2C, but with 15 HCP, opposite a minimum opener it seemed like slam was going to depend on partner's heart holding. Granted, I have a 5th trump, but we already have the queen, and I'm certainly not going to count distribution points when considering a splinter. Anyways, I thought it was close between a splinter and 2C raise, and I thought splinter would be more descriptive. Maybe if I had more confidence my 2/1 auctions, I'd be able to see how it could describe my hand that well. Thanks guys. Had a feeling I was to blame.
