  1. JT spades doesnt look bad. I'll bid 3♠.
  2. The question seems to be what is 3♣ as much as anything. Is it checkbacklike, or a stopper ask? Assuming this hasnt been discussed, I'd assume it's a stopper ask and bid 3NT.
  3. 2♥ is fine if partnership style is to rebid the major without extras and show the minor with. Unfortunate that on this hand it doesnt work out. Swap south's minor suit lengths and 2♠ is high enough - the bidding did suggest a misfit.
  4. 1) 2NT, minors. 2) X. Where are their tricks?
  5. P asked you to bid something descriptive. 3C is. After 3C, you can still show your diamond stop(s).
  6. Ah ic. I think it's still better to retain (1M)-X-p-1NT as natural though. What about hands you would normally respond 1NT but cannot pass 1MX?
  7. Transfers in competition are quite common. Including your example.
  8. The 3♦ bid shows extras and is GF. With a weaker hand that can't GF, the opener would rebid 2♠ or 2NT.
  9. Depends on how lucky you feel on the day :) I'd transfer and invite.
  10. Put me down for 4♦ too.
  11. Pass. Your partner has already bid some of your diamond length for his pressure bid; don't hang him for it. I wouldnt be surprised at all if he just had 5 diamonds at this vul.
  12. Agree on 1♥-4♥. Why jump shift to clubs? You dont have enough HCP, and besides that, only 3 clubs.......
  13. pass. who was it that first pointed out that 4m over 3M bids (most of the time) don't work? I recall reading it but meh.... in any case, you only have 3 clubs so pass looks normal.
  14. 2♠. Either natural with normal followups, or natural setting trumps and asking about the spade suit (012123 style).
  15. For a unfavorable vul bid, surely that 5C bid can take 9 tricks with clubs as trumps. That leaves little for partner to have in clubs, if anything. Thus I'd bid 5♦ - a X is misleading, as partner is VERY likely to have everything else in the other suits; that is, AK spades, AK hearts and A diamonds. In fact, I'd prefer to bid 6♦ rather than X! NB: The above assumes that the opps bid rationally..... <_<
  16. 2NT for me. Why not try and make the most descriptive bid possible?
  17. ♠. I like Justin's reasoning.
  18. XX. Only with a partner who you'd expect to know that though (yes, I've been burned by a p who thought it was business).
  19. Pass. The hand is pretty defensive, despite the void.
