  1. Auto-pass for me. Yes, there are the occasional hand where we miss a game, but its much more likely bidding 3♣ will end up going down, or make 3♣ so wideranging that its much more difficult to reach the correct spot.
  2. I think I'll go with 2♣ as well, then correct partner's bid back to spades eg 2♦ to 2♠. The diamonds aren't good enough for 3♦ for me.
  3. At MPs I think the opps _should_ (not necessarily will) play for 11 tricks given on a club lead there are 11 tricks in spades.
  4. What would 4♦ be by partner? High card 4♥ raise or shortage? But yeah I agree with the othe posters, I'm not gambling on 7 with this hand. 6 is enough. If you can't count 13 tricks its usually best to stay in 6.
  5. Agree with Wayne - the hand given should never stop short of game. With strong hands, X then bid. Here, I X then rebid 4♠.
  6. 6♥ for me. They might decide to bid 6♠ over it anyway.
  7. The opponents were willing to play in 3♠ Doubled which is quite a different thing than being willing to play in 3♠. From what I've seen I think most times the opponents would bid 4♠ to make on hands that they would likely make 4♠ the first round as to give us less time to find a profitable sac or makable game ourselves, or to nail us if we bid wrongly on the 5 level. Since everyone here seems to agree that pass is non-forcing however, then I still pass - your hand is missing too many aces to make the 5 lvl likely to make, especially with the fact that the heart honors the opps have are likely to be over partner's honors. The scoring also makes a vulnerable game not as attractive at MPs.
  8. Pass, which should be forcing as the opps were willing to play in only 3♠. I'm happy if partner bids on, or Xs.
  9. not sure what field would be with me if I bid 3s.....any field I can think of would somehow end up in 4S. Agreed. I also don't know what this obsession with bidding the same as the field - if it's the right bid to bid 4♠, but everyone is in 3♠, then why not take the free matchpoints!
  10. Meh. Call me old-fashioned but I prefer more shape-specific takeout doubles. 1♥ for me with this decent suit. 2nd choice pass.
  11. It wasn't mentioned in the OP but we don't bid this way with four clubs and the only hand with four diamonds that bids this way is precisely 5=2=4=2 or maybe 5=3=4=1 with a stiff club honour. Good to know. In that case I bid 5N :D 5NT works well too as a blame-transfer bid :P actually now that skaeran mentioned it 6♥, allowing partner to pick between 6♥, 6♠ and 6NT is probably better than bidding 6NT. *Wonders what bidding 6♦ would be - pick a slam? 2245?
  12. Prime values and honors in partner's suits make this a great hand. 6NT I suppose.
  13. Strong natural reverse. Should be unanimous, but given its BBO forums...
  14. What's the point in that? You might as well not accept, see what RHO has, bar LHO and still bid 3♦... There's a wider strength range after (1♠)-2♦-(2♠)-3♦ than after (1♠)-2♦-(1NT)-3♦ because you could have only raised to 2♦.
  15. I'm a doubler too, but it's extremely close. If it was just a bit quackier than all those AKQs then I would've passed. The west hand (the original posted hand) after 3D-p-p- could then have almost been a 3NT hand for me - something like Axx xxx KQxx AQx
  16. Pass. Partner will lead a trump if he has one.
  17. Safe leads normally vs 6NT. I lead the J of spades. 2nd choice a diamond.
  18. 1) Pass 2) 6♣ - would have bid 5 the first time though and then passed. 3) 3♣ if nonforcing otherwise X then 3♣ if that's non-forcing 4) 4♠ - would prefer to bid only 3 as this isn't quite strong enough for 4 but partner is likely to bid something that's not a spade raise and I will have to rebid spades anyway 5) 3NT. Could be silly yes, but bidding this way has worked out more often than not. 6) Partner's made a penalty double. Obv pass.
  19. Automatic pass. I'm very happy to defend 2♥X.
  20. 4♠ - cue in own suit showing 2 of top 3 honors.
