  1. Thanks for the replies. I forgot to mention the scoring is IMPs, if that changes your answers... This was the actual hand, try not to fall out of your seat! [hv=pc=n&s=sj7hk83daqcakqt76&w=st92hat54d632c852&n=sak8643hj72dj7cj9&e=sq5hq96dkt9854c43]399|300[/hv] I led the 4 of ♥, not too sure if that was optimal. switch the 8 and 9 and I might be in trouble...
  2. Coventry is near Leamington Spa, and I was told to remember it: 3♣ - Lousy suit and points 3♦ - good Suit 3♥ - good Points 3♠ - All Which forms the abbreviation L.SPA. I've not forgotten the responses since!
  3. I bid 4♥, would consider 3NT. Partner's got a good hand in hearts. Cue ♠ to help him decide.
  4. Outside influence = director not informing players about the need to pre-alert.
  5. [hv=pc=n&w=st92hat54d632c852&d=s&v=0&b=11&a=2np4np5hp6nppp]133|200|5H was explained as a Blackwood response.[/hv] What do you lead now?
  6. [hv=pc=n&e=skt752hdkqt76c874&d=n&v=e&b=9&a=4hppdp4s5hpp]133|200[/hv] Do you agree that bidding 5♠ is clearcut?
  7. And then there are others like Blackpool End of the Year and the various Easter congresses... Well, in Singapore, which is small small, the events are almost all weekend events, with the main ones during Easter, May, August and December.
  8. Now, now, that's a sensitive name in this day and age!
  9. My (relatively short) experience says pass.
  10. If only I could choose where I was born! Personally I like it a lot better in the UK (where I now spent 2/3-3/4 of the year in) where CCs are more of the norm. It makes for unwanted situations when I'm directing (although in this case I wasn't) and I really wished people would use CCs. No typo, the split ruling for NS was really 4♠-2, undoubled. It seemed like the 3 of them couldn't make up their mind if the X over 3♣ was a sewog. At the table, NS were openly disagreeing on what X over a natural 3♣ meant.
  11. EW don't have a convention card. Unfortunately, convention cards are not popular here. (Mostly for reasons jules101 gave above) NS appear to have had a disagreement over what the X of a natural 3♣ mean. Again, difficult to ascertain who is right! I know what I would give as a director, but I was actually playing in another team and sitting out this round when this happened. As it happens, two other directors were around and so the 3 of them considered the issue and gave a split score of 4♥-1 to EW and 4♠-2 to NS. Comments on the ruling? Table result was 4♠X-2
  12. Well, of course they call you back, because they felt damaged when 4♠ doubled went 2 off! (Life would be so much simpler for us directors if they didn't call us back eh? ;) )
  13. [hv=pc=n&s=sk943htdkt8432c65&w=st8hqj73dq97cat43&n=s652h962da5ckqj82&e=saqj7hak854dj6c97&d=n&v=0&b=1&a=p1hp3cdp4sppdppp]399|300[/hv] EW were playing 3♣ as a Bergen Raise. However, this was not alerted during the bidding. At the end of the auction before the opening lead, West clarified that 3♣ was a Bergen Raise per their partnership agreement. Director was called and East admitted that he did indeed forget to alert 3♣ How would you rule?
  14. I would be happy to try and form a team if there was a league starting in Jan. Shame about the timing as I saw this rather late and I'm already down to play a F2F tournament the same weekend! (Besides, I'm back home now so European/US timings are going to be bad for me this month.)
  15. I would say the blame goes to North. Give South the either black suit Jack and he has his 15 HCP, but it makes no difference. Granted, I don't agree with the upgrade, but don't trust my judgement on that!
  16. Another addendum: Agreement of X was 6-8 points, showing 4 card spades. Thus I agree that EW should keep the table result. The good thing: Even after letting EW keep their 3NT-2, there is no change to the VP score.
  17. The correct agreement would have East not doubling if North's bid was correctly described. I've adjusted to 50% 2♥-2 and 50%2♥-3. (Feel free to disagree.) My main concern is what you've both mentioned - if I should let EW keep 3NT-1.
  18. [hv=pc=n&s=s84hqt6d74cak6543&w=sa2hak75da63cjt97&n=skqj63h9843dqj95c&e=st975hj2dkt82cq82&d=s&v=e&b=3&a=p1n2hdp3nppp]399|300[/hv] 3NT went off 2. 2♥ was not alerted. East doubled to show 4 cards in ♠. At the end of the auction, North led the K♠, now West asked if 2♥ was 2-suited, North replied yes, and South said "Oh *****". The correct NS agreement for 2♥ was showing ♥+♠. East said she would have passed if 2♥ was alerted and correctly explained. If you're wondering, 2♥ is alertable under Singapore regulations. How would you rule?
  19. Quite right! Surprised that the director did not issue a warning at all to the offenders.
  20. Neither can I. It's just one of those unlucky hands!
  21. E should rebid clubs instead of 2♥. I have no problems with 4♥ by W.
  22. I think the main issue is the fact that the email is unsolicited, and questions should be rightfully asked as to how the other party obtained the email addresses.
