  1. I find it impossible to avoid these mistakes online, even if I'm taking the game fairly seriously. Don't know why - guess I'm distracted by simple things like checking my email...plus it feels less acceptable to think for a while when playing online. MSN is worse.
  2. Haha. Paul, I am not even 20 yet so I am still a junior myself. What I meant was my school juniors. Case in point: There was one pair of my juniors playing also at our local bridge club last evening. One of them ended up declaring 1NT against me, and butchered the contract after my poor lead had gifted 1NT+3 to them....She eventually ended up 1NT-4 and was quite upset...the 3 of us had to console her quite a bit at the end of the board.
  3. Mine's in my signature....I update sporadically though.
  4. Surprisingly I don't see that happening so much with my juniors....or maybe I haven't been seeing them enough. Although they do seem very surprised when I tell them I like declaring 1NT.
  5. Originally I was going to pass without a though...Now, maybe not.
  6. 6 top tricks...possibility to develop 1 in diamonds and 1 in hearts so the last one must come from spades. Play off A and 9 of ♠ and use diamonds as an entry to run another spade?
  7. 1. Excellent. Didn't remember any outages. 2. Excellent. They rose to the occasion. 3,4. Average. I think more could be done regarding line-ups, match-ups etc. 5. Excellent. Would appreciate more choice, but there's only so much one can see... 6. Mostly Excellent. There were some times when the commentary reached really low points but most commentators did their job well. I agree that Kit Woolsey deserves special commendation. 7. I would prefer no given the current UI, but it would have to stay. Perhaps something could be done to have different language "channels". Note: I watched mainly on weekends as I could only reach home around 6 pm everyday. (I live in the same timezone as Shanghai.)
  8. It's a conspiracy! Wasn't it just mickyb's (david's partner) birthday a few days ago? =p Happy Birthday!

  10. I feel that I am currently at a crossroads where I am trying to make up my mind what I want to do with bridge. Some other peer of mine actually encouraged me to try for national age group selections, which I was thinking about in the first place. However, I am currently at a point where I am thinking of not trying this time round (Going overseas for studies towards the end of next year so I won't be around for the next few years) due to certain reasons. Mainly, the catalyst for this thinking is the actions and behaviour of certain individuals who are in very influential positions in my NCBO. This is something which has not just disgusted me but my regular partner as well. I do not wish to elaborate on this in public as I feel that majority of it is my personal opinion. Secondly, my regular partner is involved in some other activities which are taking up quite a bit of his time. I asked this question to everyone, because it seems to me that some people have lost the idea of playing bridge. To me, it is a fun and challenging game which can never be fully mastered, hence the continuous challenge. But it seems to me that many think that they have mastered the game already. On the other hand, I am also very grateful to have met many kind and knowledgeable people who have taught me much.
  11. 1. 4♣ 2. 3NT (most likely you are going to end up there.)
  12. So far this is what I observed: ASE Scorer Better in creating movements ACBLScore Easier in exporting results In terms of scoring and other parts of setting up, both are reasonably equal.
  13. LOL ok thanks. I guess this is one aspect in which ASE is better than ACBLScore.
  14. Ok...next question: I ran a one-winner mitchell, 7 rounds of 2 boards each (I had 7 tables), arrow switched on the last round. ACBLScore doesn't seem to allow me an option to choose arrow switching. (I actually used ASE Scorer to score, but I wish to know how to use ACBLScore to do this)
  15. ...A short IMP pairs game of between 12-18 boards? I can set up the movements, but can't seem to find an option for scoring it as IMPs.
  16. Methinks I am too young! IIRC I was born in the year simpsons started, and I only know simpsons all the way from my childhood.
  17. Lately, a few incidents (some personal ones and some on the international stage) has set me thinking a bit about the game, and what I want to do with regards to how/where I plan to play bridge. Competitively, I've been involved in choral singing and chess before, so some of my experiences has influenced my thinking to a large extent. So, I would like to hear from you guys (non-experts and experts alike) why do you all play bridge, what do you think is your aim in playing bridge and why do you keep returning to the table for more. Hopefully this would benefit some of you as well.
  18. More questions that I am also wondering about: what about 10, 12 or 16 board matches? Does it matter if it's Swiss or RR?
