I was directing my own tourney, everything going smoothly until board 6, when I get called to a table for slow play by an EW pair. So I go over and take a look, ok, EW were taking quite a while but the auction was getting high so never mind. Now East bids 5NT and all pass. South queries E on the 5NT bid. E at first doesn't answer. S seemed to have queried again and now E answers something like "13♣s what do you think?" Now NS complains to me about E not properly explaining the bid. I stepped in and told the table to explain their bids properly, if no agreement state so. E then corrects his explanation to "No agreement". So after the board was over and everyone moved for the next round, I typed, "A final warning: Pls explain your bids properly. Offenders may find themselves kicked out of the tournament." Now W on the previous table comes and msg me about this: rossoneri->Tournament: A final warning: Pls explain your bids properly. Offenders may find themselves kicked out of the tournament. W: dont kick them but may send them out W: using nasty word W: pdr y r td be soft ->W: I beg your pardon? In any case, your partner the one was not explaining his bids properly. W: kicking is an insulting word ->W: It is not. W: it is my dear if know english ->W: English is my first language. ->W: Maybe in your local context it is, but I am not aware of it being insulting in this context. W: that is the saddest part ->W: if you wish to complain, feel free to send an email to abuse@bridgebase.com W: why shd i complain when i can pay back W (Lobby): and tx over ->W: I beg your pardon?! W (Lobby): i said tourney is over W (Lobby): think calmly ->W: "Why shd i complain when i can pay back" ->W: that is what you said W (Lobby): 1st not to offend any one ->W: do you know that statement of yours can be interpreted as a threat? W (Lobby): i mark u a friend and will remind this word daily if u permit Wow.

I find that this case has so many loopholes. Ok, there was a hesitation. How long? This was a BBO tournament I believe, and as such, I would hesitate to rule on hesitations, due to the fact that one player could easily leave his seat and the other 3 at the table would be none the wiser. Given the fact that he also could have just came back to the bridge game from whatever he was doing, he might have hesitated in getting his mind to re-focus back on the game. If I was the TD, I would most likely let the table result stand.

Well, locally I only see perhaps one or two such "pros" playing with clients. One can be fairly rude at times, but generally I would think he's okay. The other is quite polite, even after his partner handed +850 to my pair instead of gaining 200 for their side. (I was in 5♥X)

Assistance with a Bridge Ruling
Rossoneri replied to pokerbids's topic in BBO Tournament Directors Forum
EW has no case. Simple. North made a psyche (regardless of what he himself calls it). It may or may not have been a stupid psyche, but fact is, he broke no law so case closed. -
How useful is Ogust? Coded 9/10's
Rossoneri replied to Badmonster's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Ogust: Depends on how you play your weak 2s. Most useful when the strength of your weak2s can very greatly (e.g. JT9xxx possible and AKQxxx possible) Ogust would allow your partner to determine how good your suit is. If your pre-empts are somewhat solid, more useful to free up 2NT for other gadgets like feature ask. Not too sure about coded 10s and 9s, never played it before personally. -
Anyone know if there was a decision on that 6SX board between Bessis and Texan Aces?

Sad to hear that this happened. Having been at the live venue of a vugraph broadcast before, and actually being an assistant on a vugraph team before, I can imagine what it would have been like for the operators. Not to mention that all this happened when the temperature was a scorching 40 degrees. Something should be done about this abuse. It is bad enough that the operators/commentators are facing a problem that they are helpless to deal with and having to deal with this nonsense on top of that.

I think that's an absolutely fantastic idea and should be implemented as soon as possible. At the same time, may as well get rid of the auto-play singleton option altogther as no person in their right mind would elect to use that option and as noted above it creates too many unnecessary UI siutations. Agreed. Rain: It most definitely is UI.

Vugraph operator having connection problems today? Can't seem to get the broadcast going for 10 minutes before it's interrupted.

lol, you beat me to mentioning Ingberman.

Bloggers - look here!

I would think a feature to post only 1 hand would be useful. Also, maybe you could add an option to add the form of scoring as well, so we could indicate if it was IMPs or MPs. But not really that vital I guess. -
Uploading pre-set hands for a team match
Rossoneri replied to Rossoneri's topic in BBO Support Forum
Ok, now i have a new related qn: Is it possible to use a .lin file with a board number that does not start with 1? (Reason being my juniors screwed up their TM and now boards 9-12 need to be replayed) -
I have seen this suggestion before and while it bears thinking about, it does have some problems. How are you going to divide the time - per board, per round? What happens if the defence/declarer has a real problem on the last hand of a round and needs time to think? What penalties will be levied. All in all, I think it is too problematical to consider. In chess if a player oversteps the time limit she loses that game whatever the position on the board. In scrabble a player loses 10 points for every 1 minute above the prescribed time limit. Lets consider an 8 board team match.Should be over in an hour.Lets say 64 minutes. Each player will have a chess clock and will be given 16 minutes.Suppose N is the dealer. Her clock is started. When the bid is made she stops her clock and starts East's clock .After E makes her bid she stops her clock and starts South's clock and soon .After the bidding is over the opening leaders clock is started. She plays a card; stops her own clock and starts declarer's and so on. A penalty of 2 imps for every extra minute. It will be best if all cards are played out and no claims or concessions can be made. I can easily see a problem with this, faster players can just play out hands instead of claiming just to run down the opponent's clock.

What is the correct procedure to go about doing this? I tried uploading a .lin file that I created by converting a .pbn files containing deals which I generated using a generator, but when I did that, a dialog box saying "Internal Error" came out.

Darn! Any other way we can see the rest of your work on squeezes?
-
Uh....not 3♣? My hand (South) does not have diamond values, neither does it have a ♠weakness.

[hv=d=s&v=b&n=s93hk9732dkq2ckt3&s=saq6ha6dt4cqj9754]133|200|[/hv] After 2C-2H, how should the bidding proceed?

Damn! And I thought partnering an 80 year old at a tournament last year (when I was 18) was one of the biggest age gaps already!
-
I noticed that as well.

do you ask for aces?
Rossoneri replied to jocdelevat's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
What are the odds that if partner has an ace it is the correct one? I would think it is more likely to be the ♥A since you are void and have 4 ♦s... -
Hmm, I just realised that my friend is in MickyB's team and they lost to Otvosi. EDIT: I think I was writing nonsense just now.

LOL. Methinks my thread title was too vague for ken :)

Are you kidding?

Any good books/websites on this?
