And if Ms. Dynamite is gonna take into consideration the hesitation, she should also consider the fact the player doing the hesitation is a newbie.

And it is also possible that some people have created 'alternate' accounts to express (or reinforce) their point of view.

I'm amazed someone thinks sports are separated from politics. What about the olympic medals competition between the US and the USSR? Wasn't that politic? And now it is China the country the US is competing against for the medals, isn't it? Unfortunately sports and politics have been together long ago and I also think it's not right but it's a fact. It isn't individuals competing but countries. And the countries have different systems. And every one of them wants to prove their system. I believe the champions of the Venice Cup had the right to express themselves. I believe they were wrong for doing it at the awards ceremony by using that 'poster'. I also think there is (was) no way to avoid this things from happening. It's like a streaker; you just can't help it. However, now that it happenend, the WBF and all the national bridge federations in the world should arrange for their laws not to permit this from happening again (unless we want to politicize bridge more).

I guess the Shanghai Incident is to blame (or thank?).

Errrrrm, and the question is? I'm not sure about letting mistakes slip on beginners. But I still think dynamite should have balanced if she had the hand for it, so I wouldn't have adjusted either. Sometimes some players use this kind of situation to their advantage (if I didn't need to balance, excellent but if I needed to balance then I'll call the Director).

Some people don't like doubling without 4 of the unmentioned major(s). I think this is wrong, at least 3 cards in the unmentioned suits should be enough. -
How do you cope with defeat?

Should be exactly 6. I opened 1♠ and she overcalled 3♣. -

I ended up winning the tournament. Of course I had to botch one more hand... [hv=n=s8xxhaqjxxxxdkxcx&w=shdc&e=shdc&s=sakj10xxhxdqjxcaqx]399|300|[/hv] I got to 5♠ after my LHO preempted showing 6♣. I got a small heart lead. I blew this hand, how would you play it? -

Exactly. I need to be more serious. Any way I can do that? Do I flail myself after a mistake? How do I conquer my will? -

That's exactly the problem! I've been playing for a long time. I know almost all of the mistakes I make but I only realize it after making them. As I said in my post it's something like losing the concentration, it's terible. I can squeeze people, count hands and see plays not many people where I play see, but I make some really amazing mistakes. Yesterday I was playing this 4♥ contract and I miscounted the trumps which in the end resulted in going down in an easy contract and losing 14 imps! This is the kind of mistakes I want to overcome. -
The goal in all sort of competitions is winning. Yes, competing, being there is wonderful, marvelous, whatever tickles your fancy but, you're there to win. Even if you know you can't have the whole tournament, you'd love to win at least a session, or a match or beat certain pair. So how do you feel when you lose? And, especially, how do you feel when you made a clear mistake that you should not make? How do you manage to overcome that at the table and before going home? Also, do you ever make a stupid mistake like miscounting trumps or not planning an easy hand correctly? How do you react to that? What's the solution to this? How do you keep concentration so that this kind of mistakes won't happen?

The final double was the worst bid.

comments on 3NT please
Hanoi5 replied to sceptic's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Didn't you make 3NT? What was the problem, then? -
I think you have other means to 'combat' this situation. The first I'd recommend is: be part of your NBO. That way you can be one of the people who take decisions. Secondly, you can move to another country and play where your 'conventions' are allowed. Finally, you might try convincing the folk in your country (not only the ones governing the NBO but many of the players) that this or that convention is not 'bad'. Education, as usual, is the best solution to a problem.

Better Bergen Bidding
Hanoi5 replied to Winstonm's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
I hate you. Can you scan from 1929 to 1962? I have the others... -
I'd do that, too. Depending on my partner's response I wouldn't play with him anymore.
-
So after the reverse what's the difference between raising at the three level, cue-bidding at the 4 level in partner's suit and cue-bidding at the 4 level in my suit (and on the 4th suit)?
-
Being Vulnerable against non-vulnerable opponents your partner opens 1♣ to which you answer 1♥. Your partner jump-shifts to 2♠ and holding: ♠A108x ♥JTxx ♦Qxx ♣Ax What is your bid? Your partner has shown a distributional hand with 18 to 20 HCP, which I guess is normal. So, how do you treat your hand?

Well, as you are aware now, the trekkers have been discovered. Can one of them explain? -

After setting up the game, I think you use f5 or f9 to to get some optios one of which says change scoring method. Then you have to pick-up imps, average imps, I believe.
