  1. 4♥, which should be natural. 2NT, a strong michael's. If partner bids clubs (except at the 5 lvl) I'm tempted to bid hearts which should show 6. Pass, too many hearts but too few HCP's.
  2. If you double what do you bid over partner's 2♣? What if it goes 1♦-X-1♠-Pass? I bid 1♥, which should be standard.
  3. Pass, but if I were in desperate need of imp's I'd bid 4♦.
  4. 1. I'm not sure I agree with 3♦ and then 3NT. Of course it depends on what they mean. 2. Depending on the meaning of 3♦ the best continuation could be Pass, 4NT or 6NT.
  5. I have often wondered why isn't there an ELO or ELO like rating of bridge players. OkBridge has the Lehman, there is none at bridgebase (except for the card that appears next to the name which shows how good you've done in certain tourneys). So, does anyone have the Lehman formula? and what aspects do you think should be taken into account to create such a rating in real life events? Butler's in team tournaments use to be very good, but I'm sure something better can be done. Your ideas?
  6. Can someone link me to Gerber's Sim? And my opinion about this problem is (1) without repetitions. Two things though, the amount of teams and rounds has to be set and the first pairing is VERY important, rank the teams according to their points (according to the rank of the country, world, whatever) and have the best team play against the worse, the second best against the second worst and so on. You should have the best at the top after some number of rounds.
  7. Very nice story. I didn't see the video but I suppose it was about the same.
  8. Pass 1♠ 4♦ 4♥ 4NT 5♦ 5♥ 5NT 6♠ Pass
  9. I discard a spade, play ♥AK and ♦AK ruff a diamond. This I think is the simple line.
  10. 1. Partner could have either eight diamonds to the AJ or same diamonds and Club Ace or Spade Ace or even spade void. 2. Pass is not forcing as I just made an overcall. I don't think this shows heart support, though partner should have 2 hearts at least.
  11. Everybody should be permitted to answer whatever they want. If you need to know more you can say so in your topic. You can ignore these answers. You can also ask 'care to elaborate?'. A 'I agree with...' answer is most annoying, especially if ...'s answer was a WTP answer. But again, just ask for more information and you'll probably get it.
  12. I'll have to go with 5♣, too. I would love to show my spades (would partner double 3♥ with 4?) but I'm not sure it wouldn't get me to a moysian fit and having the long trumps and the void in their suit, it doesn't look good.
  13. Play the Queen and see what happens. If it isn't covered I go for the pin (which looks always better), if it is covered I have to decide whether to run the nine or drop the 10 and... that's another topic.
  14. I would have supported partner. And if they had reached 4♠ anyway I wouldn't double.
  15. 3♥ although 3♣ might work best. In fact I rushed my answer, 3♣ is clearly best.
  16. I think I'll finesse in spades, I'll lead the Jack in fact.
  17. 4♠, some of my values might not be useful but the hand is great for game, I think.
  18. I would have doubled as East. 3NT goes down if you misguess the ♥Q...
  19. ♠ATxx ♥Void ♦QJxxx ♣A8xx Both Vulnerable, partner opens 1Nt (15-17) and the next player, who is an expert and sound bidder, bids 4♥, your bid. If it matters, you're playing swiss teams and it's the last board.
  20. 2♦, which I play to be non-forcing but it shows a stronger hand in terms of HCP. However, my hand is worth bidding 2♦ and 3♦ over partner's 2♥.
  21. If they can get a club ruff then they're cold for 6. 5♠.
