  1. if only that were so easy :) 1♣-1NT-X-2♦ 2♥-3♦-x-3♠(4-5 in the majors...) x-3NT-x-swish Well obv partner didn't think any further than "they bid hearts so pard must not have hearts" pretty silly
  2. I bet a lot of people play 3N by South here
  3. Preempting style and 2/1 style because there is a huge amount of variability in these areas from person to person.
  4. I'm not saying I'd bid this, but maybe 1♦ should have been in the option list? I think I would open a Gambling 3NT if I were playing that convention, and 4♦ otherwise. I don't think this hand is substantially different than AKQxxxx and out. If partner has 1 you are better than 50-50 to run the suit, and if partner has 0 he won't pass 3NT. I'd also open AKQxxxxx 3NT for the same reason. Surely we are playing some sort of invitational method over this so that pard can find out whether we have 7 or 8 if he needs to know.
  5. I know the following doesn't really answer the question you posed since you asked about responder's rebid. This is my structure when I am playing with a non-regular partner and have at least a few minutes to fill out a card. 1NT- 2♠: transfer to clubs 3♣: transfer to diamonds 3♦: 13(45) or similar (0355, 03(64)) 3♥: 31(45) or similar 3♠: (12)55 6-5 minors generally transfers to one minor and bids the other. 1NT-3red 1st step: no wastage (bottom of range+ in working HCP) 4m: NF We usually don't get this far, but were we to discuss, after 1NT-3red-3NT: 4m: the (1345) hand 4-fragment: the (0355) hand, NF 4NT: the (0355) hand, forcing 4-void: the (0346) hand
  6. The key to the hand is ♠xx ♥Jxxx ♦Kxx, seriously. haha, this made me laugh lol me too
  7. There is a simple reason why it should be a transfer if undiscussed. If you make this bid with hearts and partner passes, you can correct to 2♥ if they double 2♦.
  8. Why wouldn't 5♥ ask for a diamond control?
  9. A low heart, so we can get a spade through.
  10. 3♦ since the last thing we want to do is excite partner, and 3♥ will do just that. I think rebidding spades is awful since partner could easily be 1552 or something
  11. The call I am going to blame is the pass of 5♥ by South, who should have doubled since if he passes North will think he has more offense and a 4th trump. Plus he has a reasonable shot to beat it anyway. I believe I would have replicated all of the other actions.
  12. Maybe his hand is AKx -- Ax KQJxxxxx and he thought 1♠ was forcing. I've seen people play 1♠ here as forcing. Anyway I'd pass.
  13. I'd pull to 4N. For those that put stock in the law of total tricks, it seems to support this decision as partner's average spade length will be about 1.8 here.
  14. When I have an agreement about passes of redoubles, it is that they are for penalty if: (1) our suit is well-positioned behind theirs, or (2) auction is at the 2-level, and they have not bid and raised, or (3) auction is at the 3-level With no agreement, you are guessing, although I would expect a good player to want to defend here. I would probably pass.
  15. Natural and I would be shocked if that is not standard.
  16. I think I would gamble out 3NT. I have 2 heart stoppers and any spade cards will likely be onside. Looks like a hand where we can make with less than typical game values. I don't think we're taking 3♥ for 500.
  17. The odds are in favor of partner holding a singleton spade or another trick somewhere.
  18. Of course you might not even beat 6.....
  19. I think West will lead a heart, and East will switch to the ♣J. If declarer plays East for ♣KJ109 or ♣KJ107 then he is going down (he presumably ducks, wins the continuation, ♦K, ♦J letting it run). If declarer plays East for ♣KJ10x or ♣J1097 or ♣J109x then he not duck a club, and he has a chance to make. Who has the ♣7?
  20. Yes, 6♦. It would be really optimistic to expect to beat 5 of something.
  21. Would definitely have doubled. Now I guess I have to act since we could still have a cold heart game.
  22. Yes, if it's strong enough to bid again. or it can be a weak 6-5 if the hearts suck
  23. Double. Not happy with it but not happy with anything else either.
  24. Yes, if it's strong enough to bid again.
