  1. What about a 3♦ bid instead of 3♣
  2. I'm not as enthusiastic about defending 1♠x as the other posters, but I am even less enthusiastic about declaring or putting my hand down as dummy.
  3. What does 3♣ mean in this auction? 1♥-1♠ 2♦-2♥ 2NT-3♣

    ??

I'd bid 3♠ which leaves 3NT open in case partner's double was penalty, 2nd choice 4♣
  5. 3♥, regardless of scoring.
  6. ♠Axxxx ♥xxxx (etc) is a pretty good slam. I would bid RKC then 6 as long as pard has a keycard (hopefully it's in spades)
  7. This thread shoulda been called "Dude, where's my ruff?"
  8. On paper it's too weak, but there are certainly situations where I'd do it anyway.
  9. Agree, assuming you're playing 5-card majors.
  10. 4♦, the suit isn't good enough for 5 and the hand has too much playing strength for 3
  11. I would bid 2♠, on a gut feeling that I've gotten better results from similar situations in the past than from passing. If the ♠J were any lower then I'd pass for sure. edit: as I'm looking at this again bidding looks worse but I would probably bid at the table, at least against most people.
  12. Pass, chance of bidding and making game is less than that of going for a number
  13. Double and pass. Doesn't seem that close to any other sequence IMO
  14. Slam. Yes, that is exactly what I am worried about missing here.
  15. 4♣ Ill just go for a plus. This is exactly the sort of hand where you can have 26 pts and no game makes. Besides, it's a balancing double so we don't have to drive to game as aggressively anyway.
  16. No its not. I wonder if 4♦ is forcing playing that.
  17. On this hand the majority in the poll (spade shift) got it right. Partner has AJ7x, (I think), and while a spade might "blow a trick" on honor position, it gains it back from promoting the 4th spade, holding the contract to 7 tricks. All other plays let it make 8 tricks, so it does not really blow a trick at all. Partner was 4333. I shifted to a diamond.
  18. I would assume natural NF and pretty minimal -- opener is highly likely to hold exactly 4 major cards, so he is asking opener to correct if 2-2 and pass if 1-3, even if he has significant extras.
