  1. I will object to the scoring of this board. Since double dummy defense will always find the right lead (a heart), of course, 3N will score poorly. In real life, a spade lead will give yield a 9th trick immediately, and a non-heart lead gives 3N plenty of chances, 3N will make frequently (imo). On a non-revealing auction such as, 1D-1N-3N, the chances of either major suit being led are fairly equal (again, imo).
  2. On BBO, you self-alert your own bids. I find it best to type the alert in the explanation in the alert box prior to making the bid, and you click the alert button as well, then bid. Your partner alerts his bids, as well. Only the opponents see the alerts.
  3. The King is correct. Let me guess, partner tried to cash his heart A next and it got ruffed and the slam rolled home as declarer pitched his remaining spades on the clubs.
  4. Try looking here: http://forums.bridgebase.com/index.php?showtopic=34989&hl=
  5. I would make the same bid I would make if my LHO had passed originally (4H, texas).
  6. How? give partner: (hands deleted) at these colors putting up 500 or 200 will probably be good, and with the spade lead coming I'm gonna have options to find the right defense. For every hand you give, I could give 100 more where passing doesn't work. What you apparently do not appreciate is that bridge is a partnership game and you have a duty to your partner to continue to describe your hand (2♠ is about as easy a call as you will ever get). To pass here is taking a unilateral position based on "insert more bs here" that may or may not work. It is 100% losing bridge, regardless of the actual result on this hand. However, feel free to do as you wish. Just don't expect me to agree with your bs.
  7. Was there a point to this thread? Passing is horrendous. There is no other way of putting it.
  8. Only 1/4 pound? Geez, and I thought you loved bacon.
  9. With your psionic powers, right? :)
  10. My Controls > Board Settings > Number of posts to show for each topic page allows you to change the number of posts displayed at a time. Those of us who have 100 posts per page only have four pages. So +1 for < 30
  11. wtf have you been drinking? :D
  12. Josh if your partner opened 2♣ and then doubled 2♠ and you happened to be looking at ♠Jxxxx, would you be confident enough to pass thinking he had a penalty x? I wouldn't care, he has a 2♣ opener, and I have 5 trumps. This is likely our best spot.
  13. 100% North. What's he going to do with his two losing clubs when South has only shown red suit controls?

    8!

Is there some reason not to simply ask to see LHO's convention card? (it will say strong, and you pass). wtp?
  15. Personally, I feel that asking anybody to reach the "optimal" contract of 2♣ doubled is ridiculous. It may be optimal, but it is in no way plausible.
  16. But probably not quite as much as I hate smurfs :)
  17. it is: 1♦-(p)-3♣-(X)- ? See description of 3♣: 3♣ could be weak or a mixed raise of diamonds (shows clubs and diamonds support 10-12 HCP) or even strong. It couldn't have this meaning in your auction. (although if it really means what he says, it's kinda silly, imo).
  18. isn't that what I said? Maybe you meant that you would always bid 2H (instead of 'chose to rebid 2H over 2S", as I phrased it). That's fine (so would I). The main point was in either case you will have an 8+ fit in one of the black suits.
  19. Because deciding to settle in 3N is the lazy way out. That's why. See your pm's. (I'll give you a hint, it's impossible for opener to only have three clubs, or if he does, he also has three spades and chose to rebid 2H first). Instead of finding out, you just shut out the auction.
