  1. What are the dates for this tournament? Not sure if I will be in town or not.
  2. Why does it specifically show a good trump suit? How does one bid with compensating values and a broken suit (say KJxxxxx)? I think that trump quality is a concern, but with all those aces what is really left for partner here if not a good suit? Because partner is saying, "I dont care if you are void in ♥, this is trump". How well do you think 4H will play opposite a void in your example suit?
  3. Of course, the 3D cuebid followed by 4H is a mild slam try. This sequence also shows a heart suit which requires zero support from our hand (usually a 6+ card suit, no more than 1 loser). I would cuebid 5D (not 4S), partner should be able to infer that we cannot possibly be cuebidding 5D unless we also have both black suits controls as well. jmoo.
  4. Uday posted these numbers several months back. I can't seem to locate the thread though, maybe he would be kind enough to do it again?
  5. Probably, I shouldnt post at 1 am.
  6. Cash the AK♠ and the A♣ (vienna coup), Run the diamonds. As long as the ♣ & ♠ guards are in opposite hands (doesnt matter who holds which one), neither hand will be able to retain 3 hearts in tbe end position.
  7. Tell partner to take up golf. If he can't subtract 11-7 and come up with down 4, he will never be able to count to 13.
  8. And all this time, I thought it was: "A fool and his money are soon partying" ;)
  9. Maybe you missed the part about where the ACBL is a non-profit organization?
  10. I think this depends a lot on your opening style in 1st/2nd seats. If you tend to use a light style opening, then this is a passout, regardless of form of scoring. If you happen to use a sound opening 2/1 style in 1st/2nd seats, then this hand is an absolute must to open in 4th seat to protect partscores and even games for your side, at both forms of scoring. jmoo.
  11. Unless you provide analytical or simulation data, I'll dismiss that claim as "statistical rubbish" :) Oh good grief, look it up. Here, I will save you the trouble of having to search for it. http://www.dur.ac.uk/bridge.club/TEACHING/statistics.html
  12. Really surprised 5♠ wasnt a listed choice. I choose other and bid 5S.
  13. That is utter nonsense. Psyching is a legitimate part of the game. Claiming that it is unsportsmanlike is exactly the attitude that perpetrates the idea that there is something wrong with psyches. I happen to disagree with you, Wayne. I think most everyone here agrees that psyching is a legitimate part of the game. Psyches can certainly be an effective weapon in your arsenal. However, to employ a psyche against a novice, beginner or even an intermediate player is to some degree unsportsmanlike, imo. It's kind of like taking candy from a baby, or adding insult to injury. You are (most probably) going to beat them anyway, why make them feel foolish on top of it? JoAnne is not claiming that psyches, in and of themselves, are unsportsmanlike. She is claiming that they are unsportsmanlike when employed against players of a much lesser caliber than yourself. There is a difference.
  14. I'll pass this advice on to my very single sister-in-law who has been asking me for advice!!! Is she cute?

  16. Disagree with 2C on this anemic club suit. 3N (13-15, 33(43)), is my choice.
  17. Yeah, well pard decided to try 5C, which got cracked by a guy holding KQJ9 :) Stuff happens. That doesn't mean 3C isn't the right bid.
  18. Disagree, this is a splinter. If you jump to one level higher than the splinter, and it cannot be natural, in general, it is exclusion. If you can't splinter anymore, and you jump to one level higher than the cuebid, and it is clearly not natural, it is exclusion. It is pointless to splinter opposite a weak hand. Yea, almost as pointless as it would be to bid exclusion opposite a weak hand.
  19. I'm white, they're red?
