Me and partner have different opinions about bidding after a takeoutdouble. Opponents opened a weak 2D which I doubled with 19HFP and my p jumped to 3H. We dont use Lebensohl but its positive anyway. I had AKxxx in S and KJ10 in H and bid 3S to show good hand which p raised to game with 2 small S. He had AQxxx in H so we shud offcource be in 4H. He said he must have 5H when jumping, with only 4 he would quebid 3D. As I indicate interest in both majors with my double I think he could have only 4 when bidding 3H.

RHO opened 3D, I passed and my partner made a takeoutdouble in fourth position. With Kxxx Qxxxxx Kx xx I bid 4D asking partner to pick a major but he bid 4NT. He took my 4D as forcing with an unknown distribution. I never heard of that as I always used quebidding opponents minor on the fourlevel as pick a major. Now I just want to know which bidding is most common.

With noone vulnerable Im dealer and pass with KQxxx AJxx xx xx, LHO open 1C and my partner bids 1D. RHO passes and I bid 1S which LHO doubles. My partner then bid 2S, RHO passes and as my partner can have 15 points I make a helpsuitbid of 3H. Opener pass and my partner bids 4S as he have King of Heart. Contract goes 2 down and I told him my bid not only asked for help in H but also for extra values since I was a passed hand. We cant agree on this so interesting to have a yes or no to the rise to 4S. His hand was J86 K9 KJ1092 QJ5 a total of 11points which I thought was too weak to go to game.

First off all thx for the comments about answers to my question. This happened in my Chiang Mai bridgeclub and the opponents were not very strong players. We were vulnerable against not vulnerable and one of them opened 3♦. I made a takeoutdouble with K109 K64 AQ83 Q32 hoping to find a 5card suit with my partner. I agree that Im maybe too weak and my p also said afterwards that I shud at least have 17+ but since opponents are weak playes I took the risk. Next opp passed and my p bid 4♦ which I took as pick a major. His hand was AQ6543 A53 Void 10954. I bid 4♥ and he bid 4♠ which I took as a Quebid assuming we had a fit in ♥. Overly optimistic I asked for Keycards and he answered 5NT which shows 2 keycards and a void. Since it was matchpoints I took a gamble bidding 6NT hoping for a ♦lead. The result was one down. I thougt my partner shud bid a direct 4♠ with his hand but he said he was strong enough for a slamtry after my takeoutdouble. All comments about this are welcome.

Me and partner have very differen opinions about a bid and I like good players to interpret following. I made a takeoutdouble over a 3D opening. My partner bid 4D. What hand would that show. I will tell later what happened after getting some opinions about the meaning of his bid.

I must correct something. My partner didnt have 5-5 in S and C. He had 6 spades and 4 clubs and 20 points.

Me and my partner are learning to play 2/1 and have different views on a bidding. He opened 1S in third seat and I bid 2D with 10p and Qxxxx. Since I was a passed hand its not gameforcing but shud show near openingstrength. My partner had a good opening and jumped to 4C with 5-5 in S and C but I thought it was a quebid accepting D as trumps. Wouldnt 3C, a new suit on the 3-level be forcing even if I was a passed hand ?
-
I played an individual tour with unknown partner. He opened 1C and I bid 1D with 17p and no 4card major and he passed. I was unpassed but he said that I limited my hand 6-9p. He showed me this link about saycbidding http://bridge.jtang.org/sayc.html there it says 1D over 1C shows 6-12p with 5+D. I never heard of this. Are there different Sayc systems around? In my world new suit by responder is always forcing.
-
I opened 1D and opp bid weak 2H. My p bid 2S with KQJxxxx, K, 7, AQ10x and I passed with minimum 11p. Wouldnt it be better if he doubled first with good hand and then bid S. What is standard bidding in sayc ? In Sweden most take 2S as nonforcing.

Its a pity since the classic version is much better in many ways. I have a friend, new member on BBO, and wanted to help him using the program and cant do that with the classic version so I also had to use webversion. When you click on players names to make them friends a do notes the menu close down before you are ready, very confusing. In the classic version it stays until you use the savebutton so many times upgrades doesnt mean improvements. Another thing which was better in classic program was that you could post saved bridgemovies to other players. In webversion you can only post newly played hands and not older hands. Dont see any meaning with such limitations.
-
Dont think they are sent from the web version as the option attach a bridgemovie is not there when you click on chatbutton. Isnt there anyone that had same problem as me trying to send a bridgehand to someone ?
-
So many looked and noone knows how to do ?
-
Why cant I send a bridgehand to a friend. We are both in lobby and I mark the little box attatche a bridgemovie. I have also opened a saved hand from my library but he dont see it. Can it be that he use the webversion and not the classical version which I prefer. If thats the case it shows that classical version is better.

Your p open 2C and opp bid 4D. You have xxx Axx xxxxx Qx and pass. Your p bid 4S. What do you bid ?

Oldfashion standard carding
UdcaDenny replied to UdcaDenny's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
I was joking offcource. People often miss the subject and come with long stories. My point was that I think its more useful to know if p wants me to continue with the suit or not instead of telling me his length. -

Maybe you have a better method showing both distribution and encourage or discourage at the same time. Please tell me as that would make everything much simpler. -

Make life easy. When partner play a suit I signal if I like it or not. When declarer play a suit I signal length, od or even. Dont see how there can be any confusion. -
Oldfashion standard carding

As I see it attitude is more important than count. Against 4S I led KC from KQ10x, dummy had xxxx and my p played a small and so did declarer. We had agreed udca so offcource I assumed he had A or J if not singleton. I continued with a low C to declarers AJ. Make life simple. -
Oldfashion standard carding

In Sweden 99% of players use udca and Im surprised that standard carding is so dominating on BBO. That was used by Culbertson in the childhood of bridge and probably he didnt have any good explanation why, they just decided a high card was encouraging and high-low showed even. When asking standard carding users whats the advantage they cannot answer. Most just say I learned that from start without giving it a thought. If you ask me why I use udca its very easy to answer. Save your high cards. Many standard carding users tell me they often lie in carding, for instance they dont play J from J2 to show even numbers. One american woman told me its only beginners and old players that dont want to change that use standard carding. Its that true ? Would like to know what other american players say about that. -
What is the difference in answering 1NT and then bidding 2 in partners major and a direct 2 in major. To clarify: 1H-1NT-2C/D-2H or 1H-2H

Too much private chat in lobby
UdcaDenny replied to UdcaDenny's topic in Suggestions for the Software
I just found out how to set up teammatches and as you said its not obvious. Why not make it easier to find, cannot be so difficult for a skilled programmer. Also I noticed I have to type the names of players which is not needed in old version. So I will wait for improvement in web version. -

Just played a tournament where opener bid 1C and responder bid 1D. I passed in 4th position and opener also passed. They didnt alert and when asked I got the answer "no information". I called TD and she said it was normal SAYC bidding. Im not an expert of SAYC but a bid from an unpassed partner must be forcing in my world.

In the old version I can put players at the table just rightclicking on their names. I then get an option to put them N,S,E or W on table 1 or 2. Dont see I have that option in the online version. Saves time and no misspelling. Please inform me if I missed something.
