Doubles and redoubles are not alertable
UdcaDenny replied to UdcaDenny's topic in Natural Bidding Discussion
Helen, in that case it happened to be the minors but its offcource 5-5 in the two unbid suits. Its a nice friendly club with people from UK, USA, France, Holland, Scandinavia and more. You are very welcome to visit. Notice me if you will somtimes in future. -
Many times I disagree with the TD in my club in Chiangmai. The latest issue is about not alerting doubles and redoubles. If you click the link below you can read about it. Lets say my partner overcall 1♥ with 1♠ and next opponent bids 2♥. If I double that to show minimum 5-5 in the unbid suits shudnt that be alerted. My partner knows something opponents dont know but our TD says that its not alertable. Also the opponent can double my partners overcall and I can redouble to show A or K so my partner know he can underlead his Ace if in lead. I think my redouble shud be alerted. http://www.bridgewebs.com/chiangmai/page39.html

Playing 2 over 1 without forcing to game after opponents intrude I have a dispute with my partner. I opened 1♥ and LHO bid 2♦ and my P made a negative double. With 13p and AJ in ♦ I bid 2NT. He then bid 3♠ which I raised to 4 with 3 small. He had 5 cards and 9p and argued I shud pass. I think he shud bid 2♠ over 2♦ and that doubling first and then bid 3♠ on the 3 level shows a stronger hand. What is normal in this situation ?
-
Yes Mike, 4♣ is a good bid but wasnt sure of slam and didnt want to go passed 3NT. My 2♠ was a bit useless since P would have made a negative X if he had 4

johnu, now its more clear

I just put up a post about "How to find 7D" with hands and bidding using handeditor but hands are not shown. Did I do something wrong ?
-
I opened 1♥ and P bid 2♦ over opponents 2♣ which is not gameforcing. I bid 2♠ and he bid 3♣ which asked for hold. I bid 3♦, 4♦ would be RKC Blackwood, and he bid 3♥. I choosed ♥ as trumph after his 3♥ and bid 4♠ as RKC Blackwood. My P thought I shud bid 4♦ after his 3♣ but couldnt he have bid that after my 3♦ instead of bidding 3♥. He must know that I must have at least 3 diamonds after showing 9 cards in the majors. [hv=pc=n&s=sa94ha8dkt742cj84&w=sjt52h764d3ck7653&n=sq763hkqj92daq95c&e=sk8ht53dj86caqt92]399|300[/hv]

Me and p have different opinions. He says you only use WND when 2 over one is still gameforcing after interference. I think it can give more information than the standard double to show a 4card ♠. Lets say you have a balanced hand around 10 points without a ♥hold after p open a minor and intruder bids 1♥. You have to pass and hope to get a second chance. If there was no interference with 1♥ you can bid 1♠ with only 4 so why not do same after 1♥ and use double to show p you got cards but no good bid. Isnt that much more useful than being able to differ between 4 or 5 spades ? Like to get some comments about this.

Lets say you open 1♦ playing 2/1 with following hand AQ74 AQ AQ92 765. LHO bids 2♣ followed by 2 pass. I bid 2♠ which my p said was wrong since it promised 5♦. He said a takeoutdouble is a better bid and shows a stronger hand. As p is expected to bid ♥ I prefered to bid ♠. Its a reversebid so I cant see that a takeout shud show a stronger hand. So my question is takeout or 2♠

I have the classical version. The option for GIB is grey, I can only choose 1. Passing all the time 2. Controlled by host 3. Programmed. Whatever I choose it says only East and West, nothing about robots. Seems like you have to pay to get GIB
-
When I practice bidding with my partner I havnt found any option to have bots bidding against you. East and West passes all the time.

My partner and I play 2/1. Now he says he dont want to play with me anymore if I open too weak. Is following hand too weak to open ? I think its a boarderline. KQJxx Qxx 10x QJx. He says its not enough quick tricks to open this hand in first or second position.
-
Would it be wrong with a gameforcing hand to first bid 1♦ and then reverse with 2♥ despite having 5 ? Could then rebid ♥ on the 3 level to show distribution. I know that Walsh says 2♥ only shows 4 cards. Also if you are very weak with 4 hearts and 5-6 diamonds do you still bid 2D ?
-
Informative answer. Now I know
-
How do you respond with 5-5 in ♦ and ♥ with gameforcing values and with less after opener opens 1♣ and rebids 2♣ ? Me and my partner can not find that biddingsituation in Max Hardy:s books. He only write about opener rebidding 1NT after opening 1♣

My p didnt like my splinter in C as he had Kx and signed off in 4H. He said it was up to me to go on. As I wanted to know if he had a control in D I passed his 4H and we missed slam. Im used to italian cuebids and if you bypass a suit you deny first or second control. Maybe oldfashioned but logical for me. By the way what means last train, never heard of that before.

We play 2/1 and I open 1S with AKxxx AQxx Qxx x and my p bid 2H with xx KJxxx AKxx Kx. I jump to 4C, splinter for H. What shud my p bid ?

Didnt understand what you said. I want to download the classic version on my macbook.
-
Just got a macbook air and prefer to use the classic version. On my HP laptop with windows 8 I can play the classic version. How can I do that on my macbook, only version I can find is Bridgebase Online which I don't like.

Rik, did you put the bid on the table and let go of it or did you hold it in your hand ? I have many times discovered I pulled the wrong bid before putting it on the table and could always change it, like intending ro bid 2♥seeing I had 2♠in my hand. Also quickly pulling it back while still holding it on the table.

Its a wise advice Helen and I shall try but it sucks when you know u are right and an ignorant person asks u to shut up as he thinks he knows much better. In a situation like that u wished u had a written document that explained the correct ruling.
-
Helene, if it was in Sweden this problem wouldnt even happen. But wintertime I live in Chiangmai and the TD here is one of the founders of the club and have done a lot of good work starting this club. He shall have credit for that but regarding ruling he can never admit he is wrong and when I try to reason with him he just refuse to listen. That unmature selfrightousness can be very annoying especially as Im the only one here that dares to protest. Someone also suggested I shud play in another club but there is only this one.
-
It would be nice if WBF and ACBL and all bridgeorganisations that follow the Laws from 1997 had some kind of Higher Court you could turn to if you have disagreements in your club about ruling. Several times I have been arguing with the TD:s in my club and even if I tell them I have over 100 posts in BBO that thinks same as me they just snort, calling them amateurs who cant interpret the law. So if the club belonged to one of those orgnisations they had to adjust to that ruling and not using any homemade interpretations. I think this can be a problem in many clubs and that many players dont know where to go for support especially if the Committee in the club dont dare to argue with their TD.

I agree with you that 3♥as a slamtry for ♣and 3♠for ♦are more economic bids but if you show interest in slam on the 4-level as in this case isnt it standard then to sign off with 4NT and accept with quebidding a major. By the way we are using Rkc1430 but as my 4NT was not asking I took 5D as natural without ♣control.
-
Me and my P play 2/1 and use 2S over 1NT as a transfer to both 3C and 3D. I opened 1NT with AKx Kxxx QJx Qxx a minimum 15HCP and he bid 2S. Ater my 3C he bid 4D as a slamtry. I have learned that 4NT denies interest for a slam, otherwise I cuebid a major. He took my 4NT as Blackwood and bid 5D which I passed. I thought his hand was nut suitable for NT and as he didnt cuebid 5C opponents could start with Ace and K. He said I shud go on with QJx in D so I wonder if my bidding was correct or not assuming my P knew that 4NT was a signoff.
