  1. This is why I think a strong club with 4 card majors (typically canape' style) works so well. The 4441 problem goes away, your 1♦ opening starts promising a suit again, etc.
  2. Maybe the problem was that you were trying to run 82 tables in indy with only one director?
  3. A♠, ♠, and let declarer break the side suits is my gut instinct.
  4. Well, 2♥ shows a hand worse than that... 2NT is very pessimistic, so is pass of 2N IMO. Would 1♠ - 2♥ - 2S/2N - 3♥ be forcing? If no, I think I start with 2♥ rather than 1NT. An overbid yes, but I really hate having to start with 1N on a hand like that. My gut instinct on the blame is: 70% North (30% for just rebidding 2N, 40% for not opening 1NT) 30% South (For passing 2NT)
  5. Playing in a robot race today, I opened 2♣ on something like: ♠AQJx ♥AKxxx ♦ AQx ♣ A. GIB bid 2♦, and I bid 2♥. GIB bid 2♠, and I jumped to 6♠. Was rather miffed to catch 3 spades to the 6, and 6 clubs to the K opposite. Is GIB playing unalerted kokish?
  6. 3NT. Even if partner is minimum for the auction it rates to have play.
  7. Step 1: Bid Your Slams Step 2: Make Your Slams Step 3: Profit Grand slams especially... Seriously...slams are where you make the big points. You don't want to be playing part scores at all. Also, your game bidding should be very aggressive... a game needs to be only about 45% NV, 38% vulnerable, so even a bit more aggressive than IMPs. If you're trying to place high occasionally (and accept also placing very low somewhat often), be even more aggressive.
  8. In the one partnership where I play Wolff, we play the 4 level bids as a slammish 5-4 hand, even if it's support of openers suit. (e.g. 1c-1h-2n-3c-3d-4c)
  9. Because on most days I expect no one is making game... 5♥ is going for at least 500 on decent defense.
  10. Pass looks very normal to me.
  11. I think 3♣ should be doubled, but by south. It's a touch light but I like it with good holdings in both majors. No, I don't think the club duck is right.
  12. Sounds like a problem with your internet provide. I haven't had any connections in quite a while, and I'm usually on 3+ hours every day.
  13. 1. Easy 3NT. Partner asked for a stopper...sure looks like I have one. The 7th ♦ is just a bonus. 2. Paaaaaass. Much of partner's strength is probably wasted, we're likely off a ♣ and a ♥. Even 4 might be too high. 3. 3♠ = Slam interested splinter, since 2♠ is forcing. Opposite a keycard response, I bid 6♠. I need fewer pitches than partner, and my suit has good odds of running even opposite a likely void.
  14. Why not X 2♠? Then partner can either sit for or it, or take out to 3 of a minor. 3♣ shows a better hand than this.
  15. Lots of blame to go around. 4NT must be minors. X of 5♥ must be penalty. X of 5♥ is from a different planet.
  16. How does the auction proceed after a 1♥ opening? I dislike opening the minor with a 5M-6m hand when the suits are spades and clubs. When it's hearts and diamonds I *really* dislike it, because you're not really gaining any bidding space. On the somewhat rare occasions that parnter can bid 1♥ over 1♦ (Partner's expectation here is ~2.5♥), you're going to have a hard time convincing him you have five trumps, which just leads to (imo) silly bids like this splinter. To me opener's splinter shows a more control rich / slam going hand than this.
  17. A♠ and a ♠. Yes, this will blow a trick when partner has stiff K or Q, but I think a void is far more likely (or small singleton), and I don't want to skewer partners heart holding. Let declarer break the side suits.
  18. Frances' ranges are base+. So like for the 13+ calculation, opener could be on, say 19.
  19. I would guess it depends on position too. (E.g. if 1st hand passes, partners expected value goes up, to some extent.) That said, requiring a combined 24 might be a bit conservative. In the content of a strong club system where virtually all 11s and some 10s (And that's not even counting the 10-12 NT) are opened, we 2/1 with good 12s, and seem to get into trouble rarely. Do you get to the occasional no-play 3N? Sure...but even those make once in a while.
  20. I'm a fan of the Berkowitz/Cohen structure here: 3♣ = 4441, 8-11 or stronger but quacky (e.g. not 4 controls), black stiff, 3♦ asks, then 3♥ = ♣ 3♦ = 4441, 8-11 or stronger but quacky (e.g. not 4 controls), red stiff, 3♥ asks, then 3♠ = ♦ 3♥ = 1=4=4=4, 12+/4 controls+ 3♠ = A solid 6+ suit, no outside controls. 3N = 4=4=4=1 12+/4+ 4C = 4=4=1=4 12+/4+ 4D = 4=1=4=4 12+/4+
