  1. And in almost all TEAM sports, it is typical to have a few players in reserve so that the top stars get a break once in a while...
  2. IMO 2♥ is FSF. establishing a GF, and with doubt about strain / no clear bid. Prefer some sort of artifical NT structure here to handle signoffs. I want more accuracy in my slam auctions over reverses, not my partscore auctions.
  3. Ken - I'd expect you would have gotten this. 1♥ is either a natural 1♥ response, or any GF hand. Sort of analogous to a a 3♣ opening that is either a diamond preempt or a strong ♣ hand, but in reverse.
  4. 3 32 32 - AQJT2 - - - Or am I missing something?
  5. Clubs that choose to play not-Bridge are of course allowed to do whatever they wish.
  6. 3♠ for me. Dislike it least. Jump shift is sick.
  7. Why are people just assiming that this suit is running? If opener has something like, say, Jxxx of ♠ and AKJxx of ♣, you're only getting 100 out of this, but 4♠ will make comfortably.
  8. How is anyone "punished" for having a good game late in the event? Because the top two pairs play in the last round, there is more room for the pairs a bit below them to play weaker opps and have a bigger round and win the event.
  9. That's besides the point. GIB assumes you "have your bid", period.
  10. Basically, when GIB is asked to guess wether partner or the opponents have psyched, it will go with the opponents 100% of the time. Plus, there are some 8 counds that just might be opened 1♠.. KJxxxx KJxxxx - x
  11. I'm not a big fan really. I dislike any event that essentially punishes you for having a good game going into the final round.
  12. Uh... south showed a strong balanced hand here. Hard to fault gib when south has shown about a 20-21 count and spades well stopped.
  13. Dislike opening, but not strongly. Would open playing Std Am or strong club. Anything but pass now is criminal. I don't care if partner has a penalty double of spades...
  14. Honestly for me if you could just make the cards the same design as windows client (although higher res), that would really help for me. The suit symbols and rank symbols on the web version just seem to soft and non-standard.
  15. 3N seems pretty obvious to me. PS: Codo....if partner bids 2N on a ♥ void he's getting what he deserved.
  16. 2N should be *accepting* the invite but without a heart fit. What 2N is definatly NOT is no points and no fit.
  17. Frankly, transfers are the expected meaning of those bids, and "to play" 2M over 1N is hardly played by anyone anymore, and those that do are usually playing some sort of weak NT. I think the "to play" bids should probably be alerted, and don't have much sympathy for anyone who assumes an unalerted jacoby bid is to play. I think the situation is similar to 2♣ opening. The strong version that 99% of players play isn't alertable (at least in the US), whereas the less common but NATURAL means (e.g. Precision or EHAA natural 2♣ openings) are.
  18. If it was no more than 10 seconds I don't think a BIT actually occurred. Ignoring that, I'm not sure I can find a real LA... Basically I expect 6♠ to be almost always making, don't feel that bullish about beating 7♥ a ton (Beat it yes, but how many?), I think the long term equity posistion might actually be to bid 7♠, even if it's fairly frequently down.
  19. For those advocating pass...how much more would yuo need to change your mind?
  20. (2♥) - p - (p) - ? ♠ AQxxx ♥ - ♦ Jxxx ♣ xxxx IMPs, NV vs V Rate: Pass, X, 2♠
  21. Just have to say that going off of IMPs/bd or MP average is a very POOR measure of bridge skill. There are some pairs (e.g. Meckwell, or any other TRUE w.c. pair) that I would be thrilled to only be losing to by an imp/board. There are other pairs where winning 2 imps/bd would be a rather poor showing. Long term averages probably say more about the skill of who you're playing against rather than yourself.
