  1. Ah, so this is Muiderberg! What we in Sweden call for Kjellberg! :D Edit: the analyse below is faulty; it was EW bidding spades, not north. The analyse is in for reparation... ;) North bidding is so horrible so only explanation MUST be he though Muiderberg was something entirely different. Say, he though south said I dont have any hearts at all. Or something like that. Although I dont know any such convention. Probably he though it was transfer into spades of some sort. Or say, some marmic with direct singelton-showing = singelton in hearts. Otherwise he could show his second suite when he was bidding.
  2. No? Then you havent seen the Blue-Ribbon winner Jenny Ryman in action. Or the Rimstedt sisters, Cecilia (junior world master) and Sandra. Or Cecilias championship partner WM Sara Sivelind. The WM third Michelle M is also well worth to kibitz. An american example could be Jennifer Capelletti according to Alan Sontag. To take some few examples... ;) :D By the way. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RiIXDzVWq0A which is high school aged guys playing bridge after school. These high school guys clearly arent playing bridge. Possibly whist. They seems to have some sort of auction yes, but they dont lay down the dummy.
  3. Yes, or say your partner had been passed off a que-bid, slam going in the correct suit. There is no reason to play this. If opps dont accept to redeal you can as well immediately claim 0 tricks as cold bottom is cold bottom even at IMPs. Or shall we account there are always some who pass on que-bids?? And therefore even these will usually get some points? (and lesson? Do always play on...Even in the most horrible imaginable contract). Second. In Imps across the field in f2f bridge it IS usual to take away the two extreme-results, the best and the worst. So this proposal do have some good merits.
  4. Yes. But there are still some noise coming through. Now tournaments starting, Wugraph restarting, etc. I dont know if this is so big nuisance, I do copy with the lobby turned off, but I understand the proposal about possibility to shut this off. If I want to be at THIS table, these are only sheer nuisance. Or if I dont play in tournaments tournaments announcements are ALWAYS a nuisance. But of course, if the house is on fire, or somebody is very ill and need help - yes, this should of course override the shutoffs... Perhaps several alternatives to shut off: shut off tournaments announcements shut of Wugraph announcements ? Why. The tournaments announcements could perhaps be shut off even with Lobby on! Even these are nuisance if I dont participate in tournaments at the moment, but want to listen and particopate to Lobby.
  5. Table-description can as now be seen only from outside. (or?). But most players arrives by the join-nearest-table-automate, they have no chance to see or choose any table description. The table description inside would help several matters: help automatic-newcomers, feks if they realise this table is wrong for them they can disappear before they start to bid or play. Here could be written a little more about the conditions at the table; feks NS having training session and therefore beg to talk some about previous board in their motherlanguage. Languages spoken (pair from Sweden and France perhaps both talk also polish) Which system they play. (easier to write the new system here than change in the user profile for every partner...). Kibitsers may want to look up the description, without the need to get out first. And I think this reform isnt difficult at all to program in. Much easier then to let the automatic-newcomers see the description during the transfer, before they join. And much more useful. ps: it is first writing this I realised the old table describions are gone; they arent even directly visible, one must click on the hosts name. Pity. But the big plus is there is now more space to write instead of these few short words.
  6. A variation of this is the finessing. Say you have A10xx to KKn9x. You dont have any clue where the queen is, and it dont matter who gets in. Finess into the weaker player! Another variation is, there come out an unharmful lead. You do see one particular switch is deadly. But the leader apparently didnt see it, otherwise he would already lead this suit. Finesse into him. ................. A strategy strong players usually have: If they understand they are leading, they play very conservative, letting you do your mistakes as much you want... This they also do sometimes already from the beginning. They know they wont make stupid mistakes, but a weaker player do ALWAYS some...
  7. the problem is I think, many interprets a curious question or polite suggestion as hidden criticism - yes even insult. And sometimes it IS polite criticism... Taken from the other side: a weak point in BBO is almost nobody discuss bridge... One reason is perhaps english isnt motherlanguage to most, it is difficult to write correctly and quickly with all nuances. And you cant write in your own motherlanguage even if partner IS from the same country, opps thinks it is rude if you dont use english or other language common to all four.... Another problem in communications is many uses extreme shortings. If you dont know the shorting-jargong you will not understand the message anyway, even if partner do tries to talk bridge...
  8. Yes, it is also a possible solution to the problem. Or? Do you mean to take away the "take me to a free seat"?
  9. I suspect you can blame the "Find me a table to play" button for that. They're transported to any open seat automatically, and it can't read table notes. Perhaps it would be better if it displayed the table information to the player, and asked "Do you want to join this table?" Yes, this is surely the explanation. And your remedy, Barmar, sounds logical. Also easy to programme. And better than the alternative to filter in which are allowed to sit in: adv and above, experts and above, all friendly and so on...
  10. Yes, something like this. It must be easy to achieve for the programmer, and would stop the most apparent abusers. I second this proposal.
  11. Exactly. Take a very typical example. During a hand I write: This is my last hand, tx all, it was nice. I do sit till the hand is done and some seconds extra. I perhaps want to say something nice more, and or I want to glance at the movie. The new deal comes, they begin to bid... I do leave as said. Technically I quit in the middle of hand, but in reality Im behaving 100% correct. Right??

Yes, the swedish legendar Jan Wohlin said once about winning tournaments: The most important is to have the luck to be leading when someone comes and shouts: it was the last deal, so turn in the scoresheets please...
  13. Thanks HotShot. So I now know it is possible to proceed. It costs to much to use the modem, and too slow too.
  14. No, it must be better to have them all together. And pick up the one when you decided which. Otherwise you will often get away your holding. A very common fault. Say, trumph played. Next player sitting with a card in fingers several long seconds. Him signalling long way he has the ace - who he play down, but also additional trumphs.
  15. Guys. I have such one reserve dator. Quite a modern dator, but no facility to enter ADSL-cablage. Is it possible to get ADSL cablage through the USB-port? We are talking of Win98.
  16. How come? Dont they look in here? I thought this forum here was a way to get ideas from for them... Ie mr Gitelman and coworkers. I thank you again for the next advice too about alternative using of the black colour-players. It is always nice to cheat the system so it is working properly (as must often be done with a malfunctioning computer... :( )
  17. Yes... Thanks a lot Inquiry. Problem solved, that was quick! :P :P But the suggestion of a couple of different classes of friends is still left. :P
  18. As it is now, I can only(?) "make friends" when they are online and I see them. I propose it would be nice if it was possible to "make friends" beforehand. Ie if I do know my friends nick but shehe is online only sometimes. I want to write it down beforehand when I am online. Next time shehe is around I do immediately see himher without bothering to seeking via Partneship bidding. Another similiar proposal is different cathegories of "friends". Example: Friends I use to play with and players I perhaps want to kibitz. Today I must mark all those as Friends.
  19. Well said Frances. Good summary. Besides. It is big difference between taking your time and using the allowed time well - as contrary to playing extremely slowly much longer than the allowed time. ............................ Edit. I shall give one example. I did played much foursome in Swedens biggest club St-Erik. In my league for the intermediares+ we had 24 deals in the evening. = The usual for matches in Sweden. We did usually played almost the whole allowed time, althought I didnt had any feeling of us playing extremely slowly. The more advanced leagues had to play 28 deals in the same time. Once I was reserve for my team, ie not playing. I sat down and kibitzed a team I knew in the expert-league (next highest). Every player seemed to play slow. Card by card in an even slow tempo. They even took time to chat friendly... But they never get in time trouble! they were finished well in time and we did catch the earlier bus too! ;) Playing slow in tempo they had seldom the timeconsuming long hoodles...
  20. I wonder if this is a correct observation! Sara did wrote about the last round in the Swedish official forum. She wrote she played very slowly there as this was the absolutely last hand and she knew the mastership was riding on it. I also mailed and asked Carina Westlin, the chaperon of the Swedish juniors. A very competent, helpful and nice person and good bridgeplayer too. Here my translation of hers answer. " This is absolutely not so, they were not late more than a few times, preciselely as all others. It happened more often they stood and waited to sit down and play next round as that pair they followed was late very often. Yours sincerely, Carina"
  21. Talking about Invisible. It could be good to swich of the invisibility mode being inside. As it is now, one must get out and log in again.
  22. This partnership suggestion is good. Another partnership suggestion may be to let easy switch of seats. Typical example we are playing, and declarer disappers, perhaps bad connection. The best way here is to let the dummy overtake declarership. Usually better than to cancel the board - it was perhaps interesting play or something, we dont want to lose the movie. Heshe can get out and go in again at another seat, but risk is big someone else jumps in. Besides, when dummie play the hand to the end, there is time for the disconnected to return, and no time or mental energy goes lost. another case may be in training sessions mentor - student. >To let the student play as much as possible.
  23. Saving the movie? I will look up, but how to do it? Anyway, I still think it would be nice to click a button only.
  24. Interesting idea. Say a typical example. Im playing with partner, or I do have a pick up inexperienced partner whom I want to give some friendly advices/shehe ask me to. After the play to leave the playing room is easier than to ask everyone leave... (opps continues to play, besides it may be difficult to stop new coming in.,). And I want to have the movie with me! It is perhaps not necessary to make if fancy; a button takes me to the Post mortem room, with the movie intact. And I do ask partner to follow. and join..
