  1. finesse is clearly better if H are alone. KQ-----xx is 1 case void---KQxx is 1 case X-----KQx is 2 case. But since you are in 3H you must avoid losing 3 D trick you are force to play D from dummy so you are missing 1 entry to take double finesse in D so playing A first is best. In a vacuum K----Qxx Q----Kxx is equal to X-----KQx x-----KQX but after the X a stiff honnor seems more probable. and in both case you succeed if they are 22 (assuming A of D is RHO)
  2. With relay its. 1D-----1H (relay) 1NT (6D or 5D+4H 12-14)---------3C GF relay break show near solid suit +stiff/void in D 4C keyc------------------4NT (2 +Q no K of S) 5D (K of H ?) 5H (no) 6C------------Here responder knows we are not missing any keycards (opener made a look for 7) so opener hands should be around A?? A?? AQxxxx xx or J or better or AK? A?? Axxxxx xx or J or better or A AQxx Axxxxx xx So its seems like a good punt to bid 7C here.
  3. I have a hard time finding a shape where partner cannot bid and 2M (our side)/1Nt (them) make. Not saying they dont exist but ... (1D)----(1S) (1NT)---AP And partner with 5H can balanced quite weak. Defending againt VUL with 4/4 H fit when the lead is H doesnt bother me that much. If it goes 1D---1Nt (partner can double safely here since we are NV/im a passed hand and there is presumption of a fit) 1D---1H (again partner can X or 1S agressively) I just dont see the upside of competing agressively with balanced hands when you can balanced/pre-balance with unbalanced hands. Ive we are red against W i can see the upside. Missing a game hurt more. Defending 1NT is less tempting Partner with a borderline line will pass instead of bid.
  4. Can some1 give me what is the upside of doubling 1D with this at fav vuln? ♠KJ94 ♥AK87 ♦982 ♣72 Most of the time its going to be a partscore 17-23 pts battle where you should be willing to defend 1Nt anytime and can make a delayed X of 2C or 2D. If they show strenght or bid both M youll be happy to have passed.
  5. Read the first chapter of uncontested auction from Bergen its used to be a very popular book so someone inn your entourage probably own it.
  6. WTP pass followed by X. Almost a textbook hand. I play that 2S here is showing clubs tol. With 6 lousy S i bid 1/2 S or pass forever. Im not a big believer of balancing with single suiter
  7. What system are you playing over opps 1NT ? If it show some sort of 2 suiters with a major West has little reason for wanting to defend 3Nt.
  8. Im starting a new partnership and need to teach my system. Im the type of players who need to understand the usefulness and the logic behind a convention or an agreement to remember it easily. Maybe its because of my chess background where understanding opening lines and continuations are more useful than just remembering the moves. Im playing with someone who seems to remember very easily all the spots in a boring bridge hands. So should I just shoot the system or teach the logic behind it ? Hes an experience polish club player but I dont think he has experience with others system and has no experience with relay bidding.
  9. That why I say crap or not so crappy isntead of saying minimum or maximum when NV.
  10. Im not in the habit of making a support double here with 3433 shape. Why do you want to compete at imps when LTT is likely to be 14 trumps ?. At MP i can understand that 2S down 1-2 could still be good if NV.
  11. I have no problems of making "mastermind bids" that bypass a 4M for tacticals reasons but none of the hands qualify here. XX on the 3rd is gross.
  12. 4D followed by 5D. Partner will know we are slammsih with both majors a D controls and no clubs controls and that i dont really care if hes minimum or maximum.
  13. 3C WTP 3D WTP 6D wtp, if 6D is a bad contract than either partner misbid or my methods are poor. I sometimes play that 5C is asking for a club cuebid. But i dont think its standard edited maybe 5S is a better bid. PS we dont have 2H losers since by bidding 4S we denied a H control, therefore partner 5C is showing a H control
  14. The trouble with Keri is that since invite is 4 or 5 opener with 3 trumps and no ruffing power will be tempted to pass fear of partner having 5/6bad trumps. If you removed all 4333, 2M will score slightly better than 2Nt. The diamond signoff is worth more than garbage stayman (not close imo). Opponents lets us play 2D fairly often. These kind of system are really better with a large range NT wich is of course ont everybody cup of tea. If you want a system without transfers let me know
  15. More afraid to miss 6 than 5S go down.
  16. WTP 4D For those who bid 3S i really hope your partner will raise you a doubleton.
  17. The difference is that in ,go,scrabble shogi, there is no big time upside for the electronic version. While for poker and bridge the upside (time) is really there. For poker we are talking 80 hands per hours instead of 20 + lower cost wich should translate in lower rake (but rarely does). For bridge we are reducing possible cheating and playing more in the spirit of the laws of bridge (less UI, self explanation of the bids). Ive played a lot of boardgames in my life and many of them are available on the web at BSW brettspiel. Sure some of the boardgames are better live because seeing your opponnent is fun but many of the games are already more popular on the web because of greatly increased speed, rules that are easiers to learn, no game preparation , no sorting of pieces etc. In the future we can assume that people will have IPAD like device that will allow them to play FTF games will all the fun of FTF but without the inconvenience of menial work
  18. (1Nt)--X--(XX)--??? Weak NT, XX is a 2 suiters sos. Should advancer bid with a weak hand so that pass show points and setup forcing pass ? What is expert standard here ?
  19. Imo electronic poker machines are simply great yet most people dont like them because they dont feel real. The future of games in general is the machine doing the menial work and still lets people having all what there used to. 4 touch screen on a table = automatic shuffle and keeping score, self alert, being able to ask for the meaning of a bid without alerting the opps. more hands in an hour no revoke, insufficiant bid or card played out of turn. Once people will get used to it real card will be a thing of the past.
  20. This is my favorite transfers setup. 2C all inv hands or diamonds to play & GF (no D+C hands) 2D H to play or 4H GF 2H S to play or 4S+ GF 2S GF balanced + some semi balanced hands 2NT + clubs GF, C+D, D+C GF 2C----2H (minimum with 4-5H) pass = inv at least 3H 2S = inv with 4+S 2NT = inv bal 3C = inv 3D = to play 3H+ = GF with D 2C-----2D (not min with 4H) 2H inv with 5H 2S inv 4+S 2NT = inv bal 3C = inv 3D = inv 3H+ = GF with D
  21. We play 10-14 nt (with all 5M332 openned 1NT) so inv and stop at 2 is my specialty. i suggest readingn this first http://forums.bridgebase.com/index.php?sho...0structure&st=0 ive improved a lot of the thing there so ill start a new post with my new ideas in 2 days
  22. surprised ive never seen or thought about this before. Its seems clearcut better. I dont remember where ive read about transfers advance the first time but im pretty sure there was no examples for 2 level overcall. Thanks a lot !
  23. no 2Nt is before the cuebid so its natural. Same rules applies to 1 level , before the cue its nat cue and + its transfers
  24. Because looking for slam /best game is way more important and frequent than hands where 3C/3D will play better than 2Nt. If 3m is the best spot its mean the opps had a 17 cards in the M (good double fit) 16-18 pts wich making them likely to compete anyway. Secondly if 3C/3D isnt forcing, opener has to be 3M to force bids that are just asking for lightner double.
