  1. By putting let say in front of my example i meant that its in case out of many. The range in some of our auction is well defined. But I dont care what is the point range or what is the 2suits or single suit. I just want to get a general idea if your relay break tend to show singleton in main suit/ ask for stopper in unbid suit/show a very good suit that partner can raise with a stiff H
  2. lets say 1H--1S (relay) 2H (5/6H+4S 12-14)--??? 2NT is GF relay What use would you take for the others bids and what suits requirement for 3m ?
  3. I dont know enough about Ayn Rand objectivist etc .. But if we look at M. Friedman predictions, he seems pretty right on the spot. There is always a direct link between free economy and GDP for countries with comparable natural ressources. I really wish everybody watch "free to choose" on tv or the book.
  4. Way too much "vote for me" gouv spending year after year. Same problem in 95% of democratic countries that are crumbling under debts.
  5. 4S. The 3C bid is still a wide range, plus i dont open crap in 4th seat esp when my bid isnt lead directing.
  6. 2N = 6-7 hearts, 3 spades 3C = 6-7 hearts, 3 diamonds 3D = 6-7 hearts, 3 clubs 3H = 2=7=2=2 3S and up = 8+ hearts Im pretty sure starting by singleton is best. Wastage vs stiff mean 3NT is better than 4M. We are also showing void directly, wich is a more important feature than having 2 or 3 on the side. Im thinking exactly the opposite hands where 3Nt is better than 4M are not rare at all. I think a solution to my problem is using the 2nd bid to show a long suit in the unbid majors. single suit D (12-14)---2H (GF) 3C (H stiff)----??? 3D D keyc 3H 5 spades D tol. (without tol we wouldnt relay.) 3S club keyc 3Nt to play 4C S keyc This mean that after long D we should show stiff clubs fisrt (since there is 2 possible majors)
  7. Agree with 2S, It tend to suggest a more unbalanced hand but here 4S in 43 fit is possible. Also 5C seems a long way home.
  8. In most poll there is always a clueless option that is completly irrelevant. This one is no exception.
  9. I prefer to start with a neg X. Bidding 4S later will show my shape.
  10. lets say 1H--1S (relay) 2D (6H)--2S GF 2NT (balanced 1 suiter)--??? what should be the followed up ? does M or m change something ? What i think is best is 3Nt to play 1 step Keycard in long suit start of scan. 2 step 2 ask for 3 card suit. rest is showing a stopper.
  11. throwing all the H except 1 so that declarer has to think we are 1723. He still can play S right ?
  12. My drugs in the coffee play start to look pretty good now..
  13. Ouch..i rarely miss a slam after a 1D opening and no intervention but this is one of them. If north decide to grossly overbid 1D-1H 1S-1NT (could be weakish relay) here 2C = denies 4H show 5C, under 18 2D = denies 4H show 4C+5/6D, under 18 2H = show 4H under 18 2S is GF with 5C 2NT is high short 3C is 5422 3D+ is low short so 3S = 3064 18-22--- ??? 3Nt is to play 4C = kec D 4D = key C -----------------------4H key S 4S (1)----------------Pass Here you are missing 2 keycard for a S contract. Partner rate to have something like. Qxx --- KQxxxx AKQx + a pointed J KQJ --- KQJTxx KQxx Qxx --- AKQxxx KQxx + a pointed J So it possible to see that 5D is probably safer than 4S (or worse that 6D might be cold and 4S can go down) but further bidding would ask for specific cards :) If north dont overbid. 1D 1H relay 1S (clubs)-1Nt relay 2D (not 5C nor 4H under 18 pts)---2H GF ?? 2S high short 2Nt 5422 3C and + is low short... 3154,2164,3064 3H (3064)-- here responder easily see the H wastage and has a very easy 3Nt. Its near impossible for 4S being better than 3Nt since they will very rarely lead into a 6 card suit.
  14. good point Rob. 1D-1H-1S(♣) you can still get out with a weak ♥ hand, since 1N is the inv+ relay 1D-1H-1N(♦) you can still get out with a weak ♥ hand, since 2♣ is inv+ relay 1D-1H-2m(♠) now 2♥ is getting used as a relay, so you're forced to take a S/D pref In fact i had 3H range in many auction wich is redundant. 1D-1H-1S©-1Nt (rel)-2m-2H is inv with long H (but will be GF) 1D-1H-1N(♦)-2C-2D (6D)-2H was INV despite partner showing mini (but will be GF) 1D-1H-2m) here i know if partner is 12-14 or 15-17 with D and S so i should just take a pref. The problem was that with 6H+4S i didnt like jumping to 2H but i think its a lesser evil. How would you split the range ? Maybe i have some free space at 1Nt or the 2 level. Right now the responses are 1NT clubs 5-8 or GF (i can probably put the GF hands out of there) 2C weakish 4-7 D raise (could be 3 trumps) 2D mixed raise. (could be 3 trumps) yes
  15. Most "B" players that like to play quick and didnt saw that H might be blocked wich a is fairly frequent when they have a sure side enntry. Im not saying its likely to work but i dont see anything else as worthwhile.
  16. 1 - I wish i could play the 9 quickly without thinking hoping declarer is convinced that partner led 3 from QT3 (instead of the T or Q). 2 If declarer is convinced he will play S. No matter who has the A if the H suit block hes making 3NT. 3 your line of partner unblocking H is irrelevant. Because the ruse work or doesnt nothing more to it.
  17. 1D--1H ???--2H vs 1D---2H In standard system i have little experience with strong jumpshift. So im used that 2H is weak 3-7 and that 1D 1H 1s/2m 2H always show 8 to bad 11. The gain is not great and having 6H/4S weakish is a problem. In my relay system 1D is 4+ and 11-22 unbal. 1D---1H is relay. in all sequence responder 2H rebid is natural showing long hearts so i still have two 2H ranges. But it would be real nice if 2H would be a 2nd GF relay. 1D--1H 2C (showing S 12-14 or Gf)--?? here it would be great to use 2H as GF instead of 2Nt (2S is to play) 1Nt (show 6D or D+H)----2C relay at least INV 2D (6D not 4H 12-14)--- ??? 2H GF relay (instead of 2S) or playing that 2H show hearts. It would be a great plus if 1H relay followed by 2H as another GF relay. But this will only give me one way to show responder 6H via a direct 2H. Is it playable to have a 6-10 range? (even with 4S on the side will have to bid 2H)
  18. Maybe because partner has a 3rd H. So that if partner has the A of S and i have the K of clubs hes doomed anyway there is no endplay. Maybe he will play a S at trick 3 while the H are still blocked.
  19. Ill vote for whoever has the common sense to understand that perfect government size is 1% and that freedom should be 99%.
  20. Ive heard form a top notch cook that sous vide is the best way for foie gras although manny purist will disagree.
  21. The best i can do is returning the 9H trying to convince the declarer that the H suit might be blocked. Putting drug in declarer coffe so that he doesnt take the club finesse is my 2nd best option.
  22. No, in a vacuum K--Qab Q--Kab are equivalent to a--KQb b--KQa so H---Hxx is equal to x--HHx however since LHO double and RHO showned the A of D. A forced assumption if LHO has the A of D your doomed so you have to assume RHO has the A of D, (if you were in 2H or in MP or in a doubled contract where -200 and -500 make a difference its a different story) So if we assume RHO has the A of D its not likely he has HHx in H since with that any any soft card in minors he might bid 2NT instead of 2S or hell be tempted to X 3H. In recap 1st.. your are in imps your first goal is to make your contract. 2nd.. for your contract to have any chance you need the A of D in RHO and you need to play low D from dummy so we are always assuming that RHO has the A of D. 3rd You need an entry to play low D so you wont be able to finesse H twice. 4th If H are 2-2 you are ok. If H are HHx --x you are dead. So only cases that matters is H--Hxx and x--HHx . 5th if rho has the A of D its not likely he also has KQx of H.
  23. If South is a good defender he can duck his A of clubs 3rd or 4th. When he won he has a tempting H switch but that doesnt break a squeeze. (vienna squeeze by perforce unblocking A of H). So all point to south having the K of H and north having long clubs. So a switch guard squeeze look very tempting. However knowing the bidding and knowing the opps will help greatly here. Anyway cashing 5D discard 2 H in hand is ok. If south 4D ill assume clubs dont break. In normal circumstance a switch guard is inferior by 2 to 1. (need south have the K of H and north to have the J while a reg squeeze need north to have the K of H) but here the chance that south has the K look pretty good. ( i expect only top notch defender are able to refrain from switching H when not holding the K) If D are 32 than the chance that clubs break are good enough that im not willing to go down in a risky switch guard squeeze while clubs are 3-3.
