Agree, a big problem in this 'content' age is that there are so many hungry microphones to feed and pages to fill that the truth can become a very low priority. Santosing is a great way to fill the void.

Two Kings? East had the King. East also knows the whole suit because West showed out on an earlier trick.

Are you suggesting - in this day and age - that there is an important reliability difference where NYT in newsprint is > than NBC? Just out of interest, why is 'text' on your monitor, more reliable and trustworthy. Multiple news source out there indicates that at least one of the documents was marked "Top Secret - SCI". Which is the highest classification marking. Of course in this D&A both sources might be inaccurate (fake news?). Also the documents were first found on November 2nd just before the election. Whereas Trump was raided by the FBI with the press present (not sure how many were newspaper writers). The main difference is that Trump attempted to obstruct. The obstruction not the possession of classified documents appears to the big difference between T and B. It's not a good look.

There's quite a lot of helpful material on Youtube. Here's a new one that explained the play of a hand nicely - although there was some rather fanciful ideas about bots signalling to each other. .

Global estimates of excess deaths from COVID-19. This is a commentary in Nature discussing the difficulties in estimating the death (not other problems) toll from the pandemic.

Normally I get a "well, you really butchered that one!". WDP would be a novelty.

It's a good point. Neither situation leaves a good taste. And it seems that AG Garland agrees, with the appointment of a second Special Counsel. Perhaps the common feature in both cases is a disinterest in following procedures for the administrative excellence that underpins good governance. One of which is based on contempt and the other, apparently, incompetence. Neither is a good look - or advertisement - for having a single individual with their finger on the button.

Bridge in pop culture - TV shows

Stanley Kubrick explained the difference between a comedy, a documentary, and a drama. In a documentary the news reaches the person in their office, in a drama in their lounge room, and in a comedy when they're on the toilet. I found the story interesting but it seemed that it didn't really know if it was a drama or a documentary. I think you put your finger on a problem that is often seen when non-experts (documentary filmmakers) try to tell a story about something they don't have intimate knowledge of. They focus on the bits they can understand - human drama, arguments, tension and so on. The arc of their story is as old as the hills - two young kids from the sticks get together to achieve the impossible, make enormous strides and then fall out because of some personal failing. This makes it accessible to the audience but doesn't make it so enjoyable to the expert. I guess they're trying to answer the "why would anyone spend so much time playing cards" question. -
The primary difference in my mind is that whereas Trump knew that the documents were classified and knew that he wasn't allowed to have them he took them anyway. Doing something you know is wrong and doing it anyway is a crime. Biden on the other didn't know it was your wife's birthday so he gets a mulligan. Also, as soon as he discovered it was your wife's birthday he sent her flowers and returned the documents. The two cases are completely different.

The problem I have with the boxes is that because they aren't a countdown timer that I can monitor from the corner of my eye (chess clock) I do not have a clear sense of exactly how much time remains. Basically the pop-ups generate stress without helping time management in the same way a chess clock does.

Which is exactly the same as the play in the bananas example above where East leads SA and another spade to dummies Q and West with the K cunningly avoids the opportunity to defeat the contract. Perhaps Argine is just being polite?.

The 'unusual' thing about it is the wording. Telling me that a bid is 'not allowed' is bizarre. What next? "That bid is utterly ridiculous" or "That bid will farnarkle the whole game don't be silly." As I understand it bid descriptors are meant to describe what your partner will think about your hand - 'not allowed' - doesn't do that.

People - like me - that have only voted for one party their whole life do so because in a party system we are voting for a belief system that we think will provide better governance. This is a completely different choice spectrum to the good/bad person method. From the outside, the USA appears to have a one-party system founded on a bedrock of individualism. American 'heroes' almost never involve a group of people getting together to work for the betterment of all society. Then we run into the problem of what 'betterment of all society' means. One thing I believe betterment of society means is access to fundamental human rights. Access to decent health care for everybody is a fundamental human right. Access to tertiary education is a fundamental human right. Access to lethal weapons isn't Under a system of individualistic authoritarianism there are no fundamental human rights that I would recognise, just the right to be able to acquire as much of human and economic wealth as possible. The people that are unable to do this are Trumps 'suckers and losers'. The one positive feature of Trump-ish (or Santos-ish) style politicians is that the flame of naked self-interest burns so bright that you can easily see what you're getting.

There are some rather unusual explanations in the bidding. After opening 1H and West passing North bid 1S described as forcing. East passed and when I hovered over 'pass' an explanation appeared saying 'that bid is not allowed'! I passed and West bid 2D. Obviously annoyed by my refusal to cooperate, North bid 3S - 'natural'. On the next hand North opened 1NT - 12-14 balanced. I hovered over 4C and then over 4D - both bids apparently have the same meaning - two-suited in H and S. Is this another quirk of Acol bidding I'm unaware of?

I think tadyan makes an excellent point. Justice and equity are vitally important. BBO could play its part by changing the dealer so that all players get 10HCP on every deal.
