  1. Can you explain this miracle in a little more detail - it looks the same to me.
  2. No expert so strong on BBO but shows some sense of skill. I'm no expert so can only guess. North was Sillafu, South also seemed pretty skilful. Here's the link to the full hand. Some mild amount of expertise was needed since they took 11.2 IMP's
  3. This hand comes from an IMP's casual table. NS are experts playing an unfamiliar system, and after BBO drops me into the West seat, East arrives and agrees to play 2/1 1430 and that's about it. After holding our own for a few hands, South with the hand below opens 2♣. The alerts were made during the game by South. After the auction I lead the ♦K - how do you make 6S? 4. [hv=d=w&v=0&b=8&a=pp1h1np(Weak%20hand)2d(%3F%3F)]133|100| Another novelty for me. What does North have with its alerted 2♦ bid?[/hv]
  5. The devil went down to Georgia, he was lookin' for an election to steal He was in a bind And he was willin' to make a deal
  6. I searched for mini-Heeman and found this. Is there something on the mini version? It looked impressive.

  8. Get well soon Mike. Useful though Bird and Anthias are, one thing they lack is taking into account vulnerability - they do compare IMP's vs MP's. Some people play different NT ranges depending on vulnerability. Is it important? Preempts vary in required length - does it matter? Is it possible that entirely different systems would work better depending on vulnerability?
  9. Double and apply a pained expression. And now:
  10. It depends how you approach it. If you just want something that will improve your card memory it's hard to beat. OP complains that GIB is awful and should be shunned because it doesn't do a bunch of things that he considers important. One of which is "returning partner's suit". Personally, returning partner's suit is very low on my list of things to think about when seeing the opening lead. One of the great things about playing with GIB is learning that defensive maxims aren't everything they're cut out to be. On the plus side GIB does allow players to do all kinds of helpful stuff: count cards, understand a basic bidding system etc etc.
  11. It's a great idea - no card no play. This would also help keep the ballooning numbers of new Bridge players down to a more manageable number.
  12. I reported it the day it came out - unaffected as I am by my pronouns.
  13. OMG! Will there be a perp walk? Trump indicted by grand jury.
  14. Actually, there are a few statues of nudes on display in the USA. Here's one of them. Edit. - they were removed.
  15. And again, it would be nice if a four robot table was included in the traveller for the daylongs... It's such a trivial thing to implement and would be an interesting starting point for discussion.
  16. Well ChatGPT seems to think that there are good people on both sides... Q. Is fundamentalist religion a good or bad thing?
  17. It's easy to see how solving a differential equation is helpful in modern day existence. Most of us (here) live in a highly engineered built environment, drive cars, use computers and aren't in the least bit surprised when doors magically slide out of the way when we walk towards them. The same is not true for millions of other people. In some places in Australia and the USA walking on the street is a risky activity. "Gender studies" is not something ethereal that latte lovers and chardonnay socialists chat about while reclining in their drawing rooms. People that aren't "white men" live a much riskier existence with less opportunity all over the world. What's the point of being able to walk over a well-designed bridge that won't collapse because the engineer understood calculus only to be attacked on the other side by a disgruntled misogynist?
  18. Which neatly returns to the question, if you use multi's does that mean that in situations where responder has a strong hand and opener has hearts, the strong hand will end up as dummy? I don't play multi's it looks like the type of approach where there are multi downsides and very few upsides. Although the pleasure of alerting 2D as a bid best described as "pretty much anything except diamonds (or clubs)" does have something going for it.
  19. Playing in the club yesterday we faced the inevitable multi. Online descriptions of multi's suggest one of 3 holdings - weak 2H, weak 2S or any 4441 with 17-24. In Australia it seems more common to remove the 4441 and replace it with a balanced 19-22 ish hand, reserving the strong 2NT to hold a weak hand with both minors. And then we encountered this sequence. Are transfers typically still on with this approach? [hv=d=n&v=0&b=1&a=pp2d(multi)p2h(p%2Fc)p2np3d(transfer)p3nppp]133|100[/hv]
